Hello, very beautiful playing! I also have Faruk Turunz oud and I tune it arabic style DGAdgc and I guess it is similar to yours so i wonder what strings do you use because your sound is great? I use Kuerschner medium tesnion.

At the first of the clip, as he hits the bottom-most string, it produces a note that's inbetween F# and G. That makes me conclude that he just tuned it without hearing solid notes, which is what I do sometimes when a piano isn't available. A normal-tuned oud has FADGC.

tuning down is a normal thing. in fact its encouraged to produce a mellower sound and relieve tension. Pianos use equal temperment tuning which was not the original tuning that was used for oud. Ouds are older then pianos and so is arabic music. Equal temperment was never meant to be used on arabic instruments.

When I say piano, I mean I use the piano as a solid guide for notes. For sure, the oud and the piano can't have the same exact notes, due to the 1/4 essence of Arabic music, but for the empty strings, whole notes suffice.

Yeah Samir, tuning down gives good results. For my oud and cumbus I tune open strings with a guitar tuner but I do play microtones. Thank you and respects.
