Yea I'm afraid of Over working the lever too a new one costs like 200-300 dollars if not more and for some reason mine bends shells whenever I try to load it from the magazine to the chamber I can't figure out why
I have the XS lever rail,(way too expensive but i bought it anyway) but I wouldn't dare put a powered or holo sight on my lever action, but to each his own thats some fast shooting goin on there, I couldn't work my action like that I'd be too afraid of marring it up, does it show any kind of ware or anything from working the action like that?
I agree on the eotech and when I get back from afghanistan my eotech 552 and 3x magnifier flip to side is going on a marlin 336. right now its sitting on an m4 though. I think it will be superior for deer though especially for low light. plus I already have it so why buy something less effective.
I have the XS scout rail on now with the same eotech. I like the sight however make sure you run the AA battery model, mine has strange hard to find batteries.
100-150yds it goes well, it's a good rifle, the sight sits up in a comfortable position, not too high not too low. if you can find a cheap second hand but good condition one you'd be doing well.
If I was going to do it again, probably would look at an Aimpoint T-1 Micro. Super slick, low profile sight but expensive...
Just a suggestion if you want eh low profile setup, burris speed fire (I believe that is what the model is) is pretty similar in function and looks great. Im debating on this rifle.
Even without bad fingers, the rifle has a mag gate that requires a bit of muscle to push a round through. Although, in combat, I doubt you'd feel anything due to the adrenaline rush. I practiced reloading mine last night and my thumb hurt after 7 rounds.
how is the red dot sight for accuracy at and past 100 yrd, any issues with proper cheek placement while quickly raising the rifle? im looking to pick one up(dont know what brand to go with either)the guy at my local outdoor shop had nothing but shit to say about them but i read a couple articles about how great they were. whats ur stand on em for the 30-30
what ur missing is the advantage of having ur magazine attached to your gun... no need to buy a tac vest to hold your 6 ar or ak or mini 14/30 ect mags... also you reload what do you to with your mag if you dont have a dump pouch it gets on the ground you advance your position now your out one mag also if you empty all your mags and the fight is not over its alot faster to load 6 rounds then 30
@dp665 I've seen some people feed rounds pretty fast trought the side slot in this kinda rifles. Plus you can't compare the stoping power of 30-30, if that what this is, to the 223. Anyway, nice rifle, thanks for sharing.
@shmuckling ya just read this think i was drunk the year ago i posted it.... i was attempting to point out the advantage of haveing a gun that has a tube magazine.... cuz then you gotta buy mags and vest and dump pouch and all this other stuff... that is why lately my gun of choice has been a .357 mag marlin or sks.
@dp665 I would deffinately preffer the 357 lever before the 223 AR. I mean, sure you could drop a round right in the chamber of the semi, but with the tube you can feed 2-3-4 rounds, as many as you feel compfortable at the time and have more than one shot. Plus 357 kicks the 223's ass in stopping power :). And you can have a nice sixgun in the same cal your rifle is in. I'm big on that - cheaper and you'll travel lighter.
@adamrosio08 What!? WRONG! You don't have to fiddle with separate magazines, just grab the cartridges and stick 'em in the side. PERFECT ZOMBIE RIFLE HERE :) Sure it's nice to have mags but what happens when you run out of mags but have more bullets? IT TAKES 3 MINUTES TO LOAD SEPARATE MAGS not the tubular side load here. This is similar to a shotgun. Nice, may get one before I get a bolt gun.
Love the marlin 336. I hunt with mine deadly acurate shooting rifle, and fairly inexpensive. Was the eotech sight more expensive than your rifle? I never even thought of putting a holographic sight on mine. Have you shot the hornady lever evolution ammo, it's great? Acurate out to 300 yards with my 30-30 ( brush gun ha not anymore).
thanks man :) it's an Eotech 551, the small unit fits well and sits high so its not an effort to get your head down. goes alright for the type of shooting that rifle is for.
Nice shooting mate . Thinking of a similar set up myself

I have the Eotech 552, but I have not fired it yet.
does it do good at 200 yds or is it like shooting open sights. Mines sitting on my M4, but it could top my DPMS 308, or even rem 700 in .223.
Seems a bit pricey to me for just replacing open sights. I do well with open iron out to 200 yards, with a 3-9 or 3-12 I worry about zero.
Glad to live in a country where we have to worry about such issues.
Lets keep America free.

@ntrudr800 you can load a round directly in the chamber if you had to gun down zombies, i've done it thousands if not hundreds of times
