Is you want to make a research about Catalonia I think you should know that Catalonia is a nation, not just a region.

It is still part of Spain.

@ZephyrPhoenix: Catalonia is a nation, with its own history, culture and language. That's a fact attending the definition of 'nation', beyond legal debates.

It's a nation the same way Scotland is even if they officially a part of Great Britain. Or Palestina is, too. Spanish Constitution talks about the different "nationalities" of Spain (a synonim for nations), and the Autonomous Catalan Law makes again refference to it.
