HERE is a jazz singer. too outside the mainstream to be acknowledged by the instream
but thats what real jazz was. the fact is she has influenced so much of music today, that is what will
live on. not 'rock n roll awards' show Semour Stein and Bono exalt in
the pure power of self adoration, but the fact that what and how she sang
became part of what and how we all sing. Joy, roots, and heart.
