  • Ah...but if you are allergic to dairy products, and you get a lot of mucous in your sinuses or lungs that can be a problem.

  • It is so much fun to listen this lady talk, she is gorgeous and hilarious at the same time!

  • It's true, if you can sing you can sing

But if you can sing only lack of sleep and sickness would affect the voice

    Not what you eat

  • Wait till the fat lady sings :)

  • So true!!!

  • Singers who are hypochondriacs will always find reasons why they "don't sound good today". If you are nervous because you think you did something wrong, then it WILL affect you. Singing is mental, very mental! So be self aware of what makes you feel good. I love spicy food, but I don't eat it before singing simply because it gives me the burps! So be well rehearsed, well rested, and well fed! Done!

  • @cleanmyroomforme Agree with you

  • from your answer I understand you have never performed. have a heavy meal and then go on stage and signs, see how it feels!

  • @ovidiubobaila The diaphragm can't push the viscera down all the way and make enough room for the lungs to naturally expand. There is a difference between a heavy meal and too much food. one gives you energy(meat, sauce, carbs), the other just over stuffs you.

  • @ovidiubobaila I dont think she meant it before the performance... And she is absolutely right! I never liked if someone is so missish. Before the performance and in this day is natural that you dont eat some type of food, or too much. And don't drink alcohol :-) But in your everyday life I dont think it deytroys everyone's voice. But it does not mean you eat oe drink too much from spicy foods. Btw a lot of opera singers smoke...And they are good. (i dont agree with this habit )

  • She is wrong in her brain!!! Is this opera guys?!!!! Is this seriousness?...Callas, where are you?!!!!!

  • @ovidiubobaila haha I can believe that she bothers you.. yeah yeah opera serious come on!opera is near to everybody.. this the way it SHOULD be

Callas did what she had to do.. carry on!!! (I cant help laughing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

  • @ovidiubobaila what??? she is a very good opera singer and her mind is free and is out of all the stupid rules and poses of the world of the classical music!... Enjoy your life! Great Anna!!!!

  • anything with dairy in it is bad soon before singing. it coats your vocal chords and sits in a little pocket above your false folds. acidic foods like lemons and oranges are good for you but try and avoid things with high levels of sugar in them.

  • This is a huge problem for me! I think I psyche myself out though...then I usually don't eat and end up feeling sick ha. Thank you Anna! You're my favorite...I"ll be singing at my university in two weeks for a competition and I'm emulating your performances of Quando Men Vo :)

  • @CCUdyMusic good luck!!

  • ´Hey Anna!! Where can i put u a Question??? Here ????

  • do NOT drink milk (b4 performance), it gives you phlegm, seriously, trust me, please.

So do oranges / anything sweet and sour

  • @thomastmwc just eat nuts and rice

  • [II] and warm but then they can dry your throat. Fizzy drinks can give you problems with breathing and emission because you have surplus air. Garlic and onion can cause same problems of lemon and alcohol ...

So, a little bit of attention to what you eat is necessary, because these things CAN happen!

  • [I] I do not agree that eating certain types of food is something "wrong in your brain".

There are certain kinds of food that cause chemical reactions which are not good for the voice: for example acid food (lemons, tomatoes, oranges) can cause acidity, as well as milk: drinking too much milk can cause acidity in the blood and to re-allign the PH the calcium can be taken from the bones, causing lack of calcium in the bones. Furthermore, alcohol and chocolate give you a first sense of pleasure

  • Before singing never drink much Milk. Is not good for singing.

  • но просто, я сама пою, и мне очень сложно во первых кушать из-за нерв, а во вторых есле я покушаю до пения, мне ведь сложно петь из-за тяжолой еды, так что помойму надо мало кушать перед представлением/пением?

  • Most singers have rituals, and many are neurotic ( I was for many years) which leads to more problems that just acting normal the day of a show. It is true that food can affect your voice, but so does : sleep, humid air, dry air, pollen, sore muscles, etc. A singer must accept one fact: You will never be 100% healthy the day of a show, so mentally, you need to rise above that. You need to find the diet that works for you (aside from voice, you don't want to be running to the bathroom either).

  • Besides being a great Artist she is so cute and lovely and sweet.

Thank you so much for posting! LOVE

  • I love Anna's videos and I think what she is doing, is really inspiring specillay to young singers like me. However I have to say that in this case It depends on the person, because some singers have acid reflex and if they eat somthing that can cause acid reflex on the day of the show it will affect their vocal chords. But it is just in the case of people that have a disease like that. If not, I completely agree with anna: what can affect you is in your brain, not in the food.

  • I really really like those videos, Anna is sharing with the world :)

And she's quite charming (not to mention the fact that she's probably the best soprano on stage now)

  • ;))))))!!!!!!

  • These opera stars live it up pretty good...

  • a drink any singer should avoid on the day of a performance: any kind of carbonated drink. ;) i remember last season during a met broadcast of la boheme anna netrebko said that she had been eating french fries and chicken during the rehearsal the day before. she definitely eats whatever she wants!

  • I like it! A spot-on answer. She has an aura that's distinct and inescapable.

  • You have a way of telling the cold truth in the most charming way. You might be my favorite person I don't know. Haha

  • There are still singers today who have a sense of sensitivity to the past. Netrebko just rules!

  • You are my favorite person of the world, Anna! Love you!

  • She's a sweetheart! Opera is definitely in need of a reform and she is very much like the revolutionary that does it. With her instantly identifiable timbre, she has accomplished this talk and her influence is very much felt.

  • @beersibley What type of reform?

  • @100fulallmusic what she is doing now, saving opera. Cheers!

  • @beersibley How? What reform is she doing that is saving opera?

  • @beersibley Do you mean simply performing and selling tickets? If so, I'd like to remind you of Renee Fleming, Kiri TeKanawa, Price and Horne, Joan Sutherland. All of these women, from the 60s onward to today sold or sell enormous numbers of tickets. How is what Netrebko is doing - in performing or singing - different? I think she's a terrific performer, but how is she different?

  • @100fulallmusic she's different coz she's the best of them all!

  • saludos al uruguayo !!

  • I have a World of Warcraft character that I named NETREBKO after you =)

  • Me encanta verte tan bien y trasmitir tus experiencias del bel canto y actuacion.!!!

  • you are so cute!!!
