I just cant help but say there has to be a slaughter house for horses. People breed them for no reason! There are way to many grad horses out there! If your horses is not a world chapion then there is no reason to breed it! Stop breeding crap horses and there will be no reason to kill them! :-)

no animals should be mistreated just because they are to be consumed or slaughtered..that is no excuse for being horrendus to creatures that cant help themselves...the ppl that do this should be punished...and forced to either kill the horses before transport and spend the money on a freezer truck !!!!! maybe then they wouldnt be shipping meat alive...it would cost too much....

its bad enough they ship cows like this...and chickens...none of this should be allowed..!!!!.

I have loved horses all my life. I go riding once a week and I spoil the barn's horses even thought they're not mine. I want a horse more than anything in the world. I have enough land for a horse because we just don't have enough money. And when I see people like this, who are lucky enough to have horses and ponies, and who treat them like crap I cry. Horses can't speak for themselves so we have to speak for them and protect them. They have feelings too.

You would think as the human race has progressed over the centuries we would treat our animals better rather than worse. I think the slaughter of animals in our modern system is one of the most horrible ends an animals could meet. Industrial, mechanical slaughter with no appreciation of the sacrifice the animal is giving when it dies. Just another piece of meat on the supermarket shelf.

Every horse owner needs to ensure that their old or sick horse is euthanized so they don't wind up on these trucks. Then horse slaughter would just come to an end. Race horse owners need to find suitable homes for retired horses and by that I do not mean the 'meat man' who hangs around at the back of the race track stables like a vulture.

@Plato86 Go to cattle feedlots, abbatoirs etc in the US and see if that holds true. Intensive and factory farming practices were pioneered in the US.

@Plato86 unfortunately, though their is a ban on slaughter, it still does fly. people do it illegally by buying the horses and shipping them over the border to either Canada or Mexico. they are not given food, water, over crowded, and sick... its very sad....

I've never been able to own horses due to my allergies but if it weren't for that stupid allergy of mine I'd definately invest into retiring with 10 acres of land to raise horses on.

Transportation of slaughter horses in Europe is positively 'luxurious' compared to what happens in here North America. In Canada they are shipped in double decker cattle trucks with ceilings so low some horses can barely stand let alone lift their heads. They are crammed into a tiny space with no partitions with horses they do not know, some of which are aggressive stallions. They endure hours if not days without food, water or rest and arive at their destination traumatised and often injured.

How can someone look at the horrific conditions of those horses and be blind to it? It's sick, just sick. To think horses are being shipped long distances to be brought to their death anyway after enough suffering. I'm glad there are organizations such as this one to help make a difference.

Weither these happends in Europe, is mostly the southern area, and the nrothern area, some horses got buyed up by horse handlers, mostly known by live stock contractors, they buy them at low cost prices from the owner but during any stop or other buyers the got placed into markets, and away they go again this needs to stop for sure, horse slaughter should be forbidden
