As he limped around the track, his father came waving to the medic to please get back..the son was in tears and in so much pain, the world will never forget the father and son 92 Olympic games. It took great courage for him to hobble all the way to the finish line when the whole World was watching.
It just goes to show how top elite athletes are walking a tightrope with the required training and fitness to get to Olympic level.
Sally Gunnel our Olympic hurdler suffered a serious injury similar to Derek which possibly robbed them of a medal if not the title.
Thank God the marshalls did not remove his Dad from the track who else to share his grief with.
