I got a phone call lately from a firm, i just said I am interested and would like to see e-mail of them with the offer, then the next day there is the e-mail and a letter in my mailbox like i've signed a contract. Wrote them back right away, and warned if they do not quit stalking me, I would charged their firm with the police and if that didn't help I would take care of them personally. Nothing ever heard of them again.
"Vin Diesel" thinks he can convince an audience that he is a man whose time is more valuable than that of a doctor. Wait, here's proof that he is correct in his belief: "It'th a pweather doin bithnith wit yu, dumb, I'm dumb"
Perhaps most of you watching this were just too flustered by Diesel's charm but little shits who work in stocks like this character are one of the main reasons why our economy's so fucked up. Stock brokers are just salesmen who rob from the ignorant.
@kamikrazi123 99.9% of stockbrokers/traders are not like this, this movie was about an illegally operating start-up firm, basically a pyramid scheme to make the founder rich. In reality there are very few stockbrokers around compared to other traders.
That was not an impressive sales presentation...I have trained account executives in the highest levels of corporate America...I know it's a scene from a movie, but that was not even good...trust me.
this type of thing is done more in the insurance business now! Believe it or not an insurance agent can make a first year annualized commission of $1,000.00 from someone committing $100.00 a month!
Obviously most of you clowns probably never have worked as a broker; and your right he does suck because I actually worked in a boiler room for a short time before I got wise, however I've seen this actually happen were a broker put a call on the squack box however he was much smoother. In fact if you are trained properly you do this. I kept people on the phone for at least an hour many times. Rule one: never hang up, let them hang up.
This movie is scene-4-scene identical 2 my experiences coming up the ranks, even the firm getting busted....Hits much closer 2 home 4 me than GGR or Wall Street. All great movies though.
This movie makes a mockery out of the profession it makes all sales people look like lying asholes who would con their own grandmother out of her life savings fund if it meant getting a new ferrari.
@MondoBeno - actually, we do sell exactly like this :) I used to have a client who was postponing our closing meeting regulary for two months. In the end I just called him and asked "sir, are you in your office right now?" and when he replied "yes", I said I'll be there in a moment and hang up the phone before he could reply. I entered his office three minutes later, threw a diaper on his desk and told him to put it on, cause he'd shit himself when I tell him about the offer I've got for him ;)

There's a reason they call them Brokers. You take all the financial risk and if you go broke they still get paid.

If I didn't know any better, I'd say that the makers of this movie dubbed a young Elliot Gould's voice to Vin Diesel's character.

I'm sure there are brokerage houses exactly like this. I was interviewed by one.
I know guys just like this. They're the spoiled sons of rich men who want to be a cross between Gordon Gekko and Tony Soprano.
I worked at Oppenheimer. They were strict about ethics and compliance. No high-pressure pitches were allowed.
