I thought this was a great film. I just watched Max Manus and Flame & Citron too. European films don't get alot of publicity in the U.K. I got a Korean version of the Finnish film Talvisota...What a cracker that is...If you like war films you gotta see it. Tali-Ihantala 1944 another Finnish film is available on YouTube in several parts in HD. Perhaps we will see some war films coming out of Poland soon..??
This was the most expensive scene that the director had ever done. The reason was because of the cost of hiring a Spitfire for the day! This one scene cost more than the whole budget for his previous movie.
Hhhmm did the Spitfires really have installed their fuel tanks before the cockpit. I thought it was like in any normal fighter: some in the wings and one behind the cockpit. For machine oil it's too much fluid.
@ichmalealsobinich Read this, too bad youtube is not letting me to paste the web adress: "The Spitfire had the fuel tanks in front of the pilot, between the engine and the cockpit. This meant the armour to the rear of the cockpit gave a degree of protection to the fuel tank from fire from behind. However, if the tank was punctured or set afire it meant the fuel and flames were blown back into the cockpit, giving rise to the horrific burns suffered by many British fighter pilot casualties."
This 1 minute (!!) long shot cost 30 000 000 CZK (=$1 700 000)... Real spitfires in this video -> 300 000CZK (=$16 800) for an flight hour. The train was also real (no models).
My Father flew P-51's in WWII. He said their worst fear was fire. Now I know why. He also told me to always carry a little pocket knife.
This is because in a plane or car wreck the seat belt can be jammed and you need to cut it to escape.Terrorists screwed this on planes but it helps historically. FLY
This video is taken mostly from czech movie Dark blue world about group of czech pilots in Britain-its very sad movie, this guys were after the war ended arrested and put in prison (meeting there with germans-their enemies from war) or simply murdered. It was same in Poland, Czech republic and Slovakia. These brave men get their honor back after 1989, but only few of them survived. Salute to them!!!
YES, Spitfire had main fuel tank before cockpit.

i dont think that it is most expensive scene in czech cinematography, maybe only because the train was old and they destroyed it
