@duadau The song is Irish, but it was adotped by the soldiers during the American Civil War after they learned it from the Irish immigrants who enlisted. BTW The are tales that a long dead porfessor of surgery haunts the halls of the Colllege of Medicine at Dublin, singing this tume while his ghost roams the building.
@andrewlubin19067 I have always believed that every American should serve, you cannot value what has been given to you. Our freedom was bought and paid for by Americans who served, were wounded and some who died. I honor your son as I honor all brave men and women fight for our life. We need to make each American find out what it's like to stand tall at o dark 30 in predawn light. Airborne
@LadyGreyCarolyn cheers i love to sing it but cant play it on guitar cos i dont know the notes so i need them to be more happy lol so if ya have them please fire them this way :D
This song is about the affects of war.We vilify each other, and cast aside our humanity in favor of brutality and hate. The Final Verse is about the end of war, and the return of our humanity.
@elmicogrande8808 - It's a lovely song. One of my favorites. One thing though. The last verse you mentioned was added in the US at the time of our civil war. I suppose that's alright though. It gained a lot of it's popularity from Irishmen who fought during the Civil War.
BRAVA. POLLICE SU --ORLANDO-
This will always remind me of my beloved grandfather. Thanks

Lady G.....I'm confused! You speak many languages & have many phone
numbers on your site. Also.... so much access to John's material.
Are you a real person or a number of different people serving this site.
Just curios ? *(^_^)*

Thx for posting all these songs by John.
It's been a long time since he recorded some of my songs.(1977-1979)
He was just a youngster then..... but had the voice.
I'm catching up on his music.
Again..... thx. *(^_^)*

This song is about the affects of war.We vilify each other, and cast aside our humanity in favor of brutality and hate. The Final Verse is about the end of war, and the return of our humanity.
The Minstrel Boy will return we pray
When we hear the news we all will cheer it,
The minstrel boy will return one day,
Torn perhaps in body, not in spirit.
Then may he play on his harp in peace,
In a world such as heaven intended,
For all the bitterness of man must cease,
And ev'ry battle must be ended.
