My two cents for future films, 1.) study the specific ground you'll film beforehand and see if you can't get the actor to imitate walking on that kind of surface (grass, gravel, hardwood...it all causes the feet to fall and rise differently).

2.) Study the history of the location: a person wearing a colonial-era outfit wouldn't be caught dead (wah wah wahhhh) in Simi Valley. Just settlers and the Chumash.
