@1:23 when he talks about finding an idea by just improvising on the piano, does anyone else think that's a bit strange and unprofessional given his reputation as a composer?
I would have thought most talented composers think about a concept and develop it in their minds before they just goes hitting keys and then going oh that sounds good I'll use that. It's like he stumbles across his ideas by accident that way.
@MrDirectGaming No not always, improvisation is just one way to do it. Listen to 0:22 ish he talks about designing things intentionally. Coming up with ideas by improvisation is not intentional, seems contradictory but I've said all I want to on that. It's a great score.
@Nyar88 What makes a professional professional is his ability to create quality work in a timely manner. So if you hire him, he will produce good stuff for you.
Improvisational composition is not strange, it is insanely common, specifically in film and game. I think it's sorta rude to call it unprofessional.
It's also bold to assume and insinuate that Marty O'Donnell didn't "think about [the] concept and develop it in [his] mind" before improvising. He didn't fart out any part of Halo.
I could have phrased it differently rahter using than strange/ unprofessional but as I said before it's a great score. You make it sound as if I was talking about you, chill buddy we're all friends here. As for being bold, this is youtube.
Does anyone know what software he's using? It's on PC...but any idea? The part when he talks about overlapping, layering and triggering sounds. Thanks
