@kankuro6666 shiny. Its coloring is altered. Remember the red gyrados in Gold/Silver/Crystal? That's a shiny Gyrados because its coloring is altered. EVERY Pokemon has a shiny version. EVERY one. Gyrados was the only directly available shiny Pokemon in the series. If you want any other shiny Pokemon, you have to find it in the wild, but there's an extremely slim chance of encountering one (unless through various newly found methods which make it easier/more possible to encounter one.) Yeah, I actually figured out that specifically, there's a 1 in 8192 chance of encountering a shiny Pokémon, which is the equivalent of a 0.0122% chance. Like I said before, a SMALL CHANCE. Ha ha. Yeah dude... there were shinies in GSC, and it was determined by the IV's. I had a shiny ditto, and because of the way shininess worked, you could breed shiny's. A Shiny ditto had a 1/64 chance of breeding a shiny offspring. This is how I got my Shiny Hoothoot.

@Latvian9514 You're wrong... Shiny pokemons have better stats... They have different colors and they are also more powerful. A good way to see that is catching the shiny Red Gyarados (can be found on Lake of Rage on Pokemon Silver/Gold/Crystal, for example) and comparing it with another not-shiny Gyarados on the same level.
