  • now I'm hungry geez!

  • I know this recipe! You can get it at a local bar. It tastes awesome. One thing is becareful from getting burned. It is piping hot!

  • That looks really good! I don't understand why you mix the egg and flours in with the chicken, though... it looks like some pieces of chicken got more egg than the others. Would it still work if you mixed the egg and flours together, then added the mixture to the chicken?

  • looks so good

  • Haha! I love how you're Korean but say Ciao at the end of this video!

  • @HitdaBLOCK187 Congratulations! I made it yesterday, too! I will post the photo on my FB tomorrow morning! Check it out. : )

  • It really looks delicious! Just wondering though, why still remove the chicken and refry it if you can just fry it for a longer period of time to achieve the crispness?

  • @fixedshot yes, double fry method makes chicken more crispy and thoroughly cooked.

  • @Maangchi thank you very much! why not just cooked it for a longer period of time rather than refrying it?

  • Awesome

  • The difference between american fried chicken and korean fried chicken?

    Apparently nothing.

  • Great, now the only thing I've got to find is the rice syrup and the hot pasta.. because I've not seen it anywhere in our supermarkets.

  • @Brulluhman you can go to health food store for rice syrup or trader joe's

  • I just made this recipe and it is SO DELICIOUS. That double frying makes PERFECT chicken, and the sauce is really yummy with it. :3

  • @MalkavianHand awesome!

  • If you don't have apple vinegar what can you substitute for it?

  • @whythehell99 any type of vinegar is ok. Or skip it. It will still be delicious.

  • THAT WAS AWESOME!

  • i never get tired of watching this.

i never fail to salivate while watching this.

    gaaaahhhhhh

  • Would this go well with rice?

  • just made these today and they taste very similar to the ones at bon chon. was so delicious!! i'm definitely going to make some again soon. thanks! :D

  • Looks great! I can't seem to find hot pepper paste. Is there any substitute I can use?

  • I just made this recipe and it was delicious, Ive only used about 8 pieces but the sauce was just enough with your recipe to coat all the chicken legs. Thank you for this recipe, I will be making it alot more!

  • why were the chicken double-fried? won't they be toughened up at the second fry?

  • Thank you so much...That is so what they where looking for. You ROCK!!!

  • Love fried chicken and I usually go the southern fried roote, however this recipe looks delicious. Thanks for posting. Also, would you know the name of the Red Korean spice/condiment that is used over Korean dishes and fries? A family memeber loved it when in Korea but they can't remember what it was called.

  • @coco200066 yes, it's called gochujang (hot pepper paste). It's sold at a Korean grocery store. Check out the photo of gochujang in the ingredient section on my website.

  • @Maangchi Hi, thank you for getting back to me so quickly. I will definitely be getting some of that....but I believe the item they where looking for is a red flake/powder of some sort that they would sprinkle on fries, and on dishes. Does this sound farmiliar at all? Either way very much appreciate your help.

  • @coco200066 oh, that's gochugaru (hot pepper flakes). Check out the photo on my website.

  • OMG this looks sooooo delicious! Thanks Maangchi!

  • good thing you didn't do the head nod when trying the food, it annoys me so much XD

  • That is awsome .... greetings from spain

  • excellent!! great idea to add the receipe... greeting from Peru!!

  • I have to ask, I typically see the egg and breading done separately (for example, the chicken would first be dipped in egg then dipped in the dried ingredients). Is there a reason why you mixed it all up together other than for convenience?

  • I sure will make this recipe. My next birthday in august I'm going to show of with your recipe. We Aruba people love spice food...so this recipe is going to be a HIT! I allready have youre stickey chicken with peanuts and ginger. Don't worry I will tellt my friends to go and see your site. They are going to love it, love it and love it. We from Aruba are not peanutallergic! Just love food!

  • @junior42885 ow, let me know how yours turns out.

  • I like crispy chicken and still crispy with the sauce. Just fabulous, must try it. Love your recipes. Greetz from Holland. J.

  • @junior42885 ya ya ya! : ) Let me know how yours turns out if you make it later.

  • Wow! Thank you for posting.

  • this is restaurant level.. wow

  • Omg it take to long but taste awesome

  • so unhealthy but so delicious!

  • So this is the food I been searching I try this one before in some korean restaurant. Actually I never remrmber its name, but after watching uour show brings back memories. This really good thanks for the vid keep it up.

  • @maelenz Let me know how yours turns out! Thank you for your nice words!

  • korea should clone you... LOL

  • I made this recipe with chicken strips tonight, and my wife went NUTS over it. To get even more flavor out of the sauce, I used a Thai chili paste (more heat, plus flavor notes of shrimp and soy), and added 2 tbsp. brown sugar and an extra tbsp. vinegar. For a smokier flavor, you could substitute 1/4 tsp. of the sauce's canola oil for the same amount of sesame oil.

Yet to try: wanna see if I can adapt the dredge into a batter. Now, should I use beer, sake, or soju?

  • my mouth is so watery!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • You fry both times at the same temp?

  • Must make thise recipe. I can hear the crunch when you eat the chicken. Makes me so hungry. When I make it, i will tell you. Greetz from Holland..and keep sharing the recipes. God I'm hungryyyy.....

  • the food looks wonderful! thank you for sharing~

    ^_^*

    you are so adorable!

  • You are just adorable. And the chicken looks so yummy. Wonder where I can find hot pepper paste, though. Never seen it in Europe.

  • @ExiledStardust It's sold at a Korean grocery store. Check out the list of Korean stores on my website if you want.

  • @Maangchi you should have first season the chickens then have two containers, one with egg mix, other with dry stuff. roll chicken in egg mix then dry stuff, and repeat till the chickens r coat well. normally two to three times. the way u did it here is nothing wrong, but can be done much better.

  • @Maangchi wonder if we can use some hot ketchup instead... :))) can we? :))

  • @nonameanca yes, why not. : )

  • @Maangchi oh, that's great! :) thank you for the answer~^^

  • BON CHON!!!!

  • my new favourite channel! Reminds me of my mum's home cooking :D

oh also, for this recipie you can also add finely diced onions when you're frying the garlic for the sauce for that extra natural sweetness. Also makes me feel better about eating this, its not exactly the healthiest dish :P

  • are u a korean?

  • Please come to my house and cook

  • You are so cute!

  • KOREAN!!! I LOVE DEM! EPIC! I LIKE SUPER JUNIOR!!!

  • I just ate a big lunch but after watching this, I'm going to make it o.o

  • YOU ARE SO COOL OMG

  • Hi!! Is kochujang hot pepper paste good to use? Can I use that??!

  • @lauratdrummer yea when any korean recipie says hot chillie paste, they're talking about gochujang lol

  • can i replace potato starch with corn starch??

  • What do you do with all those oil in the pan? Wouldn't it clog up your drain if you pour it in the sink?

  • @ThePirateship2010

You usually store oil. Tossing it down a drain is a complete waste of flavor as well as being bad for the plumbing.

  • @ThePirateship2010 - that's what all those old coffee cans are for. ;-)

  • Instead of frying 10 mins - 10mins , would it work if you fried them 20mins straight?

  • I really want to try this, but frying makes me nervous because I'm afraid of burning my house down... But frankly, driving to NYC to spontaneously order this isn't happening anymore because of my one year old, so I'm going to have to take the plunge and cook this! I'm craving 양겸통닭 so badly!!! Thanks for the recipe Maangchi!!!!!

  • @MicheleCT1004 Good luck with making delicious chicken!

  • @MicheleCT1004 You can do it!!!

  • Love this, thank you. Your vid was easy to follow and funny.

  • Mmmmm . . . I could probably only eat 4 or 5 kgs of this.

  • @badcarpetburns oops, too much! : )

  • I ,made, turned out GREAT !! Very Good Thank You !!!!

  • @Jhpblaze712 great great!

  • Looks delicious! Do you turn the heat up for the 2nd frying or keep it the same temperature?

  • @evaswirlz Keep it the same temperature.

  • @Maangchi Thank you so much! I can't wait to try this! :)

  • Can I use Corn syrup instead of rice syrup ?

  • @Jhpblaze712 of course you can. Let me know how yours turns out!

  • I love it that you prepare normal amounts of food - it makes the cooking a lot more believable - one can tell you are not just cooking a tiny bit for the video :)! Thank you!

  • Thank you for your fast reply, so pleased to hear and I'll definitely try as it looks so scrumptious.

  • Thanks very much for your recipe and I've now added your website to my favourites as I'd love to try some dishes. Do you think yangnyeom-tongak will work well without the chicken skins?

  • @RiaLake yes, some of my readers let me know they made this with chicken breast and it turned out delicious. Happy cooking.

  • I can't wait to make this!!! One question though, do you need to refrigerate the hot pepper paste after you open it? I found a Korean grocery store in my town. I went crazy shopping!

  • @evilbarb Yes, I keep it in the fridge after opening.

  • finger lickin gooood

  • Okay whats the purpose of taking it out just to fry it again? Why not just keep it in? *just wondering*

  • @MrCapisce to make it more crispy.
