The higher end ecollars have very low levels that are meant to be used for training purposes. These cheaper versions can be harmful and unreliable. You get what you pay for with these things.
The best I've ever done for my dog, was to shock him. After those first couple (honestly a couple) shocks, he developed a perimeter around me, from which he didn't want to go beyond. The commands I gave him registered and he listened to them.
The shock collar is a non-verbal, line of communication to the dog. Most people garble the hell out of their dog's ears and the dog can't distinguish a command from the din.
BTW - I tried the collar before putting it on the dog first!- at most- C-Bat.
@artemusmast Nope, its torture. And you are a retard for being such an idiot as to hurt your dog and not train it properly. Scaring a dog into being "submissive," like a child- is abuse. Only in America... Many countries have banned shock collars, barking collars, choke chains, etc. and use Positive Training. The ASPCA agrees and says to use Positive Training because the "alpha wolf pack theory" is completely false.
You called me names, and I will give you hard evidence on is right. Suck it.
@musiclovinggurl123 I didn't call you names. I lead you through the training techniques I found helpful. You said I tortured my dog. I said you should eat poop.
@musiclovinggurl123 . . .And I still haven't called you a name. I just said you should eat poop.
You seem so young, you know nothing of the world or life and yet you preach.
I perceive that you think we're in some kind of fight. . . we're not. There is no such thing as an electronic fight. Fights are fleshy and people get hurt.
If you think I'm torturing my dog by using a shock collar, I cede this ground to you.
@artemusmast I would obey you too if I received shocks around my neck otherwise, but I still wouldn't like this kind of training. If the shocks really are like a tingle, why would these collars make dogs obey? If the dog wouldn't mind them at all, the shocks wouldn't stop it from behaving badly, so the dog must dislike them anyway. I would never train my pet by making it feel uncomfortable. These videos show that shocks can be painful, this didn't look like a tingle.
E-collars are *fortunately* banned by law in many countries, for example Finland and our dogs are one of the best trained in the world - with play and positive reinforcement.
@mimix1975 lol..When I go to jogging, almost every time I meet a person with dog and the dog is at most times very aggressive and the owners barely can handle their dogs. And every while you can read from a newspaper that dog has attacked at human. Dog is animal, and mostly go by with his instinct. That's why it should be treat harshly, not torture, but harsh, and specially not with that Finnish "here doggy doggy, good boy (while eating child.), bad boy..."
@Shane7891000 Oh please! E-collars when used correctly are an amazing training tool. My dog can't wait for me to put it on her. When set correctly it simulates tapping someone on the shoulder. Our training group all have e collars on their dogs and i've never seen a dog that had any negative reaction.
That is the most uneducated comment i've ever read. Electricity passes through hair/fur/ clothing with the SAME intensity that it would without it.. FUR does NOT lessen the pain and intensity of the jolt. YOU my friend, are DUMB. I pity your dog.
You are so mean. You bought shock collars for 2 of your dogs, and now you just let everyone know how bad it feels to get shocked. The people out in this world who call themselves "dog trainers" use shock collars on dogs just to get them to listen. What happened to training and squirt bottles? The people who made shock collars are stupid jerks that don't ever care for dogs. Dogs are already in enough abuse people!!!!
@WendyPhanNguyen1 And you are a fool that first; has no clue about dogs, second; no clue about how or why to use a e-collar. An emotional response to a tool that allows your dog to have a much better quality of life is just ignorance.
@James92802 Um no, like Victoria Stilwell says, " I'm angry at the people who say 'we're dog trainers, and the way we're going to treat your dog, your puppy, is to put a shock collar on it. And we'll train it to be obediant." and " It defys , explaination, belief, understanding, how people who call themselves "trainers", put shock collars on dogs, especially puppies to train them. What is that all about? You train a dog to do something by sending them an electric shock? It is abusive!"
@WendyPhanNguyen1 You are just like the mommies in California that forced the state to require seat belts on school buses. Talking about things you don't know anything about, but thinking that saying it loud enough and with tears in your eyes makes you right. You don't know what you are talking about - Victoria Stilwell has no credibility, and most of the "fixes" she has on TV are short term at best.
@marcostott Everything depends on the dog and the situation - I have a very alpha dog, he was GOING to be in charge of his pack. Had he not found me, and had I not been willing to try a collar, they would have been put him down. My other dog, has only had the collar on about 5 times in his 3 year life. Only used for corrections like - "you do NOT cross curbs without me & stay means stay". Both have not had it on for at least 2 years. Both started at about 6-7 months. Try it on yourself first!!!
@James92802 i dont agree with ecolar on puppy or for teaching obedience. there are many more natural ways to show u are alpha. i agree with ecollars only for extreme cases. why should i try it on myself first?
@ViridianStarlight Aye-- dogs have much thicker skin, and the stim effects them with less intensity. Lol, this chick was screaming more from surprise after having anticipated it, than anything.
@zether7 I think you meant to talk to someone else. I never said anything about "spraying". Unless you mistook "stim" to mean "spray" which it doesn't. By "stim" I was refering the the electric stimulus of the collar.
Why don't you be a responsible owner and get that pitbull to the vet for its back leg you moron. Too bad this video is 4 years old, I really hope it was taken to the vet. It clearly was in pain.
@trexgorawrrrrr out of curiousity ... how the hell do you know they didnt????? For all you know the dog was under treatment, maybe he had something naturally wrong with it ....
No need to be rude when you dont know the facts >.>
God I HATE those collars! I despise anything that gives animals "shocks" .... what happened to good old fashioned "NO!" or a sharp but light tap on the nose or squirt of water
These types of devices should be reserved for criminals and morons. Leave your dogs out of this, strap it around your own neck for a week and see how you like pissing yourself every time you speak too loud.
This just shows that people are so lazy they can't bother to try train a dog properly; with patience and understanding. Pain compliance training will just lead to a dog with suppressed aggression problems.
funny stuff.. one thing most of you people forget, dogs have a layer of fur to shock through. a proper test would be to put it around a layer of thin clothes, but watching people shock themselfs is funny.
@1lacerated Clothing has absolutely no effect on whether or not you receive a shock at 50kV plus. At that voltage the current overcomes the inherent non-conductivity of the air, so unless you are wearing something that does not breathe, like a rain jacket, the electricity does not have a problem getting through a layer or two of clothing, never mind hair. I know, I have been shocked through a jacket and tshirt by a stun gun. The hair on a dog offers no resistance and does not reduce the pain.
yea it hiurt like a bitch i know but sevral things 1 is was on the back of her leg that skin is very thin and plus the skin on a dogs neck is very thik bc thats how its mom caryed him/her and the fur sooo yea
The higher end ecollars have very low levels that are meant to be used for training purposes. These cheaper versions can be harmful and unreliable. You get what you pay for with these things.

@musiclovinggurl123
No. It's not "it's call torture". It's more like a structured harmonizing of minds. It's a translator.
Also, please don't forget, my brother and I tried-out levels of 'shock' far beyond the level the dog receives. It's a surprising tingle.
So, you know what musiclovinggurl123 - eat my (awesomely behaved dog's) poop.
