The best I've ever done for my dog, was to shock him. After those first couple (honestly a couple) shocks, he developed a perimeter around me, from which he didn't want to go beyond. The commands I gave him registered and he listened to them.

The shock collar is a non-verbal, line of communication to the dog. Most people garble the hell out of their dog's ears and the dog can't distinguish a command from the din.

BTW - I tried the collar before putting it on the dog first!- at most- C-Bat.

@artemusmast I would obey you too if I received shocks around my neck otherwise, but I still wouldn't like this kind of training. If the shocks really are like a tingle, why would these collars make dogs obey? If the dog wouldn't mind them at all, the shocks wouldn't stop it from behaving badly, so the dog must dislike them anyway. I would never train my pet by making it feel uncomfortable. These videos show that shocks can be painful, this didn't look like a tingle.

E-collars are *fortunately* banned by law in many countries, for example Finland and our dogs are one of the best trained in the world - with play and positive reinforcement.

@mimix1975 lol..When I go to jogging, almost every time I meet a person with dog and the dog is at most times very aggressive and the owners barely can handle their dogs. And every while you can read from a newspaper that dog has attacked at human. Dog is animal, and mostly go by with his instinct. That's why it should be treat harshly, not torture, but harsh, and specially not with that Finnish "here doggy doggy, good boy (while eating child.), bad boy..."

@Shane7891000 Oh please! E-collars when used correctly are an amazing training tool. My dog can't wait for me to put it on her. When set correctly it simulates tapping someone on the shoulder. Our training group all have e collars on their dogs and i've never seen a dog that had any negative reaction.

@marcostott Everything depends on the dog and the situation - I have a very alpha dog, he was GOING to be in charge of his pack. Had he not found me, and had I not been willing to try a collar, they would have been put him down. My other dog, has only had the collar on about 5 times in his 3 year life. Only used for corrections like - "you do NOT cross curbs without me & stay means stay". Both have not had it on for at least 2 years. Both started at about 6-7 months. Try it on yourself first!!!

This just shows that people are so lazy they can't bother to try train a dog properly; with patience and understanding. Pain compliance training will just lead to a dog with suppressed aggression problems.

@1lacerated Clothing has absolutely no effect on whether or not you receive a shock at 50kV plus. At that voltage the current overcomes the inherent non-conductivity of the air, so unless you are wearing something that does not breathe, like a rain jacket, the electricity does not have a problem getting through a layer or two of clothing, never mind hair. I know, I have been shocked through a jacket and tshirt by a stun gun. The hair on a dog offers no resistance and does not reduce the pain.
