I had a strange dream last night. I saw this: Roman soldiers were marching. A woman with her face covered was speaking in a purely informational way about how the Romans were traveling about. But I understood it in my head to mean that she was giving clues as to where and how they could be trapped. Then..King Herod's men secretly enveloped the Romans in a Cannae-like movement. That's when I awoke..after I'd had the understanding that the Romans had been beaten..
Like I said, he is called great for the things he did, great doesn't mean good or that he was charming. Like Alexsander the great, He wasn't great either, the guy was basicly a jerk, but they called him great to my opinion because his wars were great.
@2skullscrushing Great doesn't mean good. It can also mean large in size. He was called great because he did alot of things, not that he was a good person.
@EndOfNumbers not really, it was mostly for one thing. that was rebuilding the temple. the jews under his rule, in the time of his reign , made the exception to label him great, because that one thing he did on their behalf. according to joshephus, he was hated by everyone, and not a jew. And only a puppet king who buildt a lot because he was an insecure vile paranoid wretch, only interested in prolonging his reign, with no interest in judaism or jewish law.Which was everything to the jews then.
@Marduniya Great doesn't mean good, like how I posted before. Herod did alot of things great in number, not good as per say. Look up the word, it is key to understanding.
Now Herod had been very angry with the people of Tyre and Sidon; but they came to him with one accord, and having made Blastus the king's personal aide their friend, they asked for peace....So on a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat on his throne and gave an oration to them.
And the people kept shouting, "The voice of a god and not of a man!"
Then immediately an angel of the Lord struck him, because he did not give glory to God. And he was eaten by worms and died.

he was so great, that his tomb only had himself and two others, because he simply murdered all of the rest of his family. what a great guy.
