Amazing cast, I had seen Ed O'Ross in movies for years, since Full Metal Jacket. I had absolutely no idea it was him who played Itchy until I looked over the credits. Pacino, Forsythe, Hoffman of course were all brilliant too.
I thought this movie was the shiz in 3rd grade. I had all the action figures; and they made fun of me when I brought them to school for show and tell. Dickheads...
Big Boy- "I'll take care of Tracy, I tell them. You know why? (long pause) I WANT YOU ON MY SIDE!" (slaps desk). I laugh at that every time, It's so Pacino
The guy who played Flat Top is William Forsythe, he also played J.D. in the mexican mafia movie American Me, Sammy "The Bull" Gravano in Gottie and the badass Sheriff in Rob Zombies Devils Rejects. those are the only ones i know about
@theclownyprincess funny to see Al Pacino, from a intelligent honor mafia boss, to a bad-ass non-inteligent cuban immigrant who will become a rich druglord on the miami of the 1980s to this charachter on DICK tracy.
@DorianJFTMDandy well, I am so excited to read that you've been enjoying my fanfic on this! I hope you'll leave me a review sometime! <3 Thanks for reading! :D
@theclownyprincess Hey Lovely, have you finished it and posted it online? I'm dieing to finish it. I can review it now or until I read the whole thing. it's up to you.
on the contrary to your belief. my friend and myself both love flattop. best dicky tracy villain by far. better than big boy. thank you for posting this. i feel the same exact way! (: he deserves more recognition!
The makeup in this looks really neat- wonder if they've ever considered something as "real-life cartoon" as this again. Would you recommend this movie as a whole?
@theclownyprincess Seriously Anthony Perkins was cute with a capital Q! :) Personally he's really a Woobie, if only he could overcome is psychological dependance on his mother hopefully with the help of a sweet non threatening woman :)
I, too, had a crush on Flattop, both in the films and the animated series (and later the comics). Yes, I was disappointed that he didn't have a bigger part, but admittedly his part was much larger than most of the other characters. Ironic that he went down the way Warren Beatty's Clyde did in the end.
@theclownyprincess: Will do my best. By the way, I had the pleasure to meet William Forsythe at the horror convention, Texas Frightmare Weekend, a few years ago. I talked to him briefly about his role as Flattop, but he unfortunately didn't have a single photo of the role, so I didn't get his autograph because of that.
@escottish140 it would be so fantastic! I've kinda been toying with the idea of writing some myself. Oh that's SO cool - what did he say about the character and the role???
@theclownyprincess: He was a kind, sweet gentleman. I was surprised at how baritone his voice was. He said the role was difficult, due to the makeup process was about 5 to 6 hours, as he could only suck soup from a straw for weeks and couldn't move fast, like turning his head, or ruin the makeup and that's another few hours. But if you push that aside, it was lots of fun. He knew a lot of the cast from other projects, so they goofed around off-set a lot.
@escottish140 I think things like not being able to move fast actually really worked for the characterisation as I love how collected Flattop is in the film, though he still seems to simmer beneath it all - could snap at any moment! Did he say anything about how he approached the character or thought about him?
@theclownyprincess: Most of the other baddies are very grandiose and practically insane, like Big Boy, Mumbles, Itchy, etc. I like that Flattop is more cold and collected and cerebral than his compatriots around him. The fact that he would always look at you with the corner of his eyes and a tilt of his head -- a permanent sly look -- with the little Elvis sneer going on (much like his comic book persona). Much of what William Forsythe did was very subtle but deliberate.
@escottish140 yeah I like that too and I thought it was really fantastic. He was always watching everything that was going on, very carefully, not missing a trick. Like he was stockpiling all the info. He only seemed to lose it at the end.
