  • mama,mam.,mis to jilabel

  • they clapped before he even started ..amazing singer wow :~} )

  • What's it matter what his origins are? It's a beautiful song and he sings it beautifully and with deep feeling. Why couldn't his dad have taught him this song? I can remember that song being sung in pubs in the 1960s in my own home city--a Scottish industrial one--by a man who was a Scots Protestant. He probably taught his own kids it. It's a famous song and like all famous songs from almost all cultures we all identify with them. Check Perry Como singing the Kol Nidre, as an example.

  • @Fingalful So true...Good music belongs to everyone!

  • @Fingalful George Galloway(maybe because his mother was Irish-Sin Fein) would not approve, neither will the distillers of Chevez Regal who have boycotted Israel.

How times have changed. In these regions there is a tacit boycott of Jewish culture as expressed by UK Universities boycotting Israel. Hopefully this will reverse itself and Jewish culture will be once again open to Celtic ears.

  • Best version of great song I hear ever!!!

  • @griyar1 Rosenblatt's version is the classic of all time. Sophie Tucker rocks as well.

In the early 1960's this version would be very appreciated.

  • mr jones, well done.

  • With respect to Tom Jones please check out my acapella version of yiddishe mama harry k sings under the sea

  • Where can I purchase this song? itunes does not have it in their library.

  • @PutOnASweater ...Sorry, the title is "Jewish Soul: The heart & Soul of Jewish Music"

  • Here I always loved TJ, before I ever heard this beautiful version! He is truly a giant of music.

I think his all-time best is "The Green, Green Grass of Home," it's also here on YT.

  • not heard this song forover 40 years ,and it's still beautifull

  • ale gilory

  • sasty bahtaly 100 lat zcia so derwlorestyr kames oj ale del

  • I've just GOT to know the origin of Tom saying he learned this from his father as a boy. God bless 'ol Tom!

  • @dantean We know a Rabbi who knew Tom and his family. Tom's Jewish neighbors - an older couple with no children of their own - essentially raised Tom because his parents were working or the like. The neighbors doted on Tom and used to take him everywhere. I can get the exact story. The Rabbi even told us the name of the Jewish family next door, but I don't remember it.

  • @drmarvin613 Tom Jones isn´t Jewish he is Welsh. His family was mainly of English descent, with both of his paternal grandparents being born in England and his maternal grandmother born in Wales to English parents. His father Thomas Woodward was a coal miner...I think this Rabbi Story is fairytale

  • @ad220588 Exactly! Tom Jones is as non-Jewish as it comes! The mystery is how does a non-Jew like Tom Jones end up singing "My Yiddishe Mama" and say that he heard it from "his father". The answer is that it is not his bio father but the Jewish husband of the nice Yiddishe lady who looked after him when he was a child. I will ask Rabbi C. the name of the mishpocha.

  • @drmarvin613 Strauss-Kahn can sing it well haha...

  • @drmarvin613 Thank you.

  • Ein Traum!

  • Sir Tom, the best ever singer the country has produced! An excellent rendition of a truly beautiful song.

  • I'm in tears,

  • There is a great new CD, "Jewish Soul: The Heart & Soul of Jewish Music" that has this song as well as Jewish songs by Johnny Mathis, Connie Francis, Eartha Kitt, Jackie Wilson, Andy Williams and many more...it's EXCELLENT...got it on Amazon.

  • Божественный голос!!!!! С юнности слушаю и готов слушать его песни теряясь во времени. Сколько чувств, красок, пережеваний в этом сказочном голосе. Дай Бог ему долгих-долгих лет жизни!!!!!

  • MY mom loved Tom Jones and I beleive he was singing to her god bless you mom I MISS YOU..........

  • Bravo! Shalom, TJ!

  • Asoltate la versione in spagnolo di NINO BRAVO: "Mi querida mama"!!!!! =)

  • This is beautiful. I just lit the yourtzite candle for my father so he and my yiddishe mama are both on my mind. Beautiful, but sad, too.

  • @AMalteseMama This song by Tom is now available on the CD, 'Jewish Soul: The Heart & Soul of Jewish Music'...also on the CD are traditional Jewish songs by: Johnny Mathis, Connie Francis, Jackie Wilson, Andy Williams, Eartha Kit and many more...it's on Amazon and the hatikvahmusic web site

    EXCELLENT

  • I appreciate this song as an Italian American I remember my grandmother singing "Mamma" to me all the time. I love this kind of family oriented affectionate music. Shalom & Arriverderci!

  • @BigNickey only difference between a jew and an italian, is that jews prefer matzaballs and italians, meatballs.. I remember my bubbe's neighbor in canarsie, brooklyn: his name Guido, he would always invite us in with open arms, not a word of english he spoke but his warm nature and "manja manja" was more then enough to reveal the type of man he was.. RIP Guido and Bubbe (gramma in yiddish)

  • FANTASTIC... its new for me he sang it....!!

  • This is indeed a rare recording. It is taken from the live LP record; Tom Jones, Live at The Talk of The Town. A good old London institution from the 60's & 70's which is sadly no longer there. The LP never made it onto a cd. Parts of it did and is out under the name of Tom Jones; Las Vegas to London. This is a mix of a 1967 appearance at the Flamingo Hotel, Las Vegas (sadly no longer there) and the concert recorded at The Talk of The Town. Nevertheless, another outstanding performance by TJ!

  • what the hell is the description of the video talking about?

  • This reminds me of my mam when she use to be in one of her melancholy moods and sing this song because it reminded her of my grandmother..xxx

  • if it is on youtube it is not rare

  • @espnchris If you don't think its rare then please go try to find the album or more info on it and add link.

  • en recuerdo de la mamá que nunca tuve

  • My Yiddishe mama, public recording in the album " Live in London Talk of the town " in 1967

  • My Yiddishe mama, public recording in the album " Live in London Talk of the town " in 1967.

  • toms a jewish boy?

  • @tonyquate well i think , so far, that TOM JONES IS Christian

  • @tonyquate no,but he sings like one.

  • @tonyquate TJ Jewish? I don't think so. You don't have to be Jewish to sing this beautiful song. All you need is to have loved your Mother!

  • @rockinsilverfox666, I'm totally agree with you.... I like to listen folk music from all around the world, and I have sung some of them, and I'm not neither jewish, nor muslim, nor buddhist, etc. etc., I like hebrew music and middle east sounds, I have learned some arabics songs (phonetic)... Beautiful music doesn't have boundaries nor religion... Charles Aznavour is french from armenian origins, not jewish, and he sings his own version of this song...

  • this song could not been sang any better, just great

  • this is the best interpretation of this wonderful song. Thank you.

  • Good song...it even sounds good in Romnes

  • This is so great! And in English, for those of us that do not understand Yiddish.

  • fabulous !!!

  • Sehr schöne Version!!! Israel ist SUPER!!!

  • This is a live recording in London's Talk of the Town in 1967. Tom had already recorded 3 smash hits (It's Not Unusual, What's New Pussycat & Green Grass of Home) by the time he made this live album. Hard to find an album where he sounded any better, this is indeed this legendary singer at his very best!

  • He said he learned it from his father.

  • Tom Jones jewish - how cool. Nice version too.

  • Tom Jones is not Jewish, more information in Wikipedia

  • @Darthbob59 and i bet he didn't sing this at his dubai concert

  • wooow what a performance and what a beautiful song.

  • Yossele rosenblat composed this song beautiful.

  • Was his father Jewish?

  • A good question as Tom never looked Welsh and always sung like a Black singer. Maybe there was some Jewish genes in the mix.

  • This is a good version however the one I liked most of all was the late FRANKIE VAUGHAN'S plus he was Jewish and sang jewish if you get what I mean

  • I love Tom Jones...but I loved him more before...I am not a fan of facial plastic surgery...it makes people look so crazy...there is nothing wrong with growing old. He is a fabulous talent...and now he has ruined his wonderful image.

  • Maybe he is...Tom Jones is not his real name....in anycase he has the worse facelift I have seen ....he was gorgeous before.....I guess he had low self -esteem and could not grow old gracefully.

  • A comment like that could only come from a pollock

  • @NiftyNataliePollock If Richard Tucker could sing Opera , why can't Tom Jones sing this ?

  • Спасибо, Том!

    Замечательное исполнение!

Я всегда плачу, когда ты поешь эту Песню!

  • he's amazing

  • No, I don't think he's Jewish!!

  • ne is not

  • I think he's Jewish, Italian, Greek, Spanish or Turkish, no Welshman looks like that !

  • He has an amazing voice,he is from Wales,

  • I believe his parents were from Sicily.

  • There's plenty of Welsh and other Britons with so-called "dark" phenotypes (ex: Tom Evans, Rowan Atkinson, John Rhys-Davies, Andrea Corr, Gavin Henson, Gordon Banks, Peter Shilton, Colin Farrell, Russell Brand, Kevin Rowland, etc.) Such types have been in the British Isles since ancient times (probably the oldest inhabitants of the place.) The topic of "dark" Britons is a very common one among the old British anthropologists/ethnologists (Beddoe, Thurnam, Phillips, Ripley, etc.)

  • thank the Romans, no?

  • Such types of Britons predate the Roman conquest (when the Romans arrived to Britain they already noted their presence, and how much they resemble Iberians.) They are probably the oldest inhabitants of the British Isles.
