  • isnt that a clam digger/ scooper?

  • I go to st Pete's blue wave beach 2 times a year but I never see any sand fleas is there a certain month or season for them?

  • When do you catch them? I've been to beaches in st.pete and clearwater and I don't see any.

  • AWESOME!!!

  • haha nicee mannn

  • I love to see big colonies like this. When the pompano fishing gets hot on the east coast so many people rake them they can become scare in certain areas. As far as nomenclature goes, common names like sand fleas, sand bugs, and mole crabs all suffice. This particular genus and species is Emerita talpoida. Not all "mole crabs" look alike or are even in the same genus. The "ripples" are the eye stalks of the crab protruding out of the sand. They feed using their 1st antennae as plankton net

  • holy shit! Lucky....

  • wow i've never seen anything like that before lol, cool!

  • @Whitedove787 Mole Crabs are pretty neat, their 100% harmless too, they dig in the sand and put out these feeler-type things that grab tiny food particles out of the water, their sorta cute when you get to see em up-close, little crab-like things that look up at you liek "what the fuck did you do with my sand?"

im going to Nags Head Beach in if i recall it was N.Carolina at the end this month, but its been many years since i last was there, hope the mole crabs still live there :3

  • @Lavos2007 i'm going to the states in november so hopefully i'll be able to see one for myself:) have fun!

  • I like catching them and ghost crabs

  • mabye hogfish will love this

  • Stupid is word that is used to much, by people who can't express themselves with smart words. The fisherman call them sand fleas. Who really cares what they are really called. If you want to catch them to fish....then watch the video.

  • @1jab11 I would rather call them sand fleas and not by their latin names lol I agree with you

  • no offens,e but your stupid...those are Mole Crabs, often called Sand Crabs, Sand FLeas are tiny and like to bite

  • @Lavos2007 no your the idiot sand fleas and mole crabs and sand crabs are all different names for the same animal. Sand fleas don't bite they dont even have teeth they eat tiny organic material that the waves bring in

  • @Lavos2007 No offense, but you need to learn how to spell and punctuate correctly.

  • @tssmithaz well Spelling/Punctuation isnt a weak point for me, i was a top-rate English student in every school ive ever been in, its not that i cant do it, i just dont TEND to online, unless its somethin serious like a Job Application or other matter where i cant afford to relax and chill out and otherwise ignore lots of the formalities, i usually do try to have proper spelling but i type fast and sometimes miss a key by a smidge

  • @Lavos2007 nope there sand fleas smart one

  • @tshninja well, say that to me once youve actually done research on said crustaceans officially known to Science as Mole Crabs, Sand Fleas are smaller and really do bite

  • @tshninja btw if you think im wrong, i am sending you a PM of a vid of the exact same creature, but a single one not a bucketful

  • @Lavos2007 actually i think there mole crabs lol
