Actually, this what I learned; The true meaning got lost in translation when "black robes" tried translating the Bible into Lakota/Dakota languages. There are actually many meanings for the two words. "Wakan," but not "Spirit" or "Great" best translation is "All that is." "Tanka" can also mean many different things depending on the context and how used. Mystery is one, "Being" or "Power," and a few others.

his is beautiful. This is wakan tanka. When I see picture from the Hubble Space Telescope or the Spitzer infrared Telescope, that is aslo wakan Tanka. Then I think of the Latin hymn "O Mysterium Ineffabile". Thanks for this video.

well name of song is Wakan Tanka and in English at begining talking of all things, Wakan Tanka means to the Dakota's (the Great Mystery) White people reffered to this as Great Spirit. but its a bit more complicated than just Great Spirit. its the supreme power of the Lakota universe. in fact i should put this on side bar, as many people think Wakan Tanka is just Great Spirit it is in a way but much more.
