Nastia builds and strives for lean muscle, because she is an ARTISTIC gymnast, whereas Shawn builds bulkier muscle, because she is a POWER gymnast. But in case you're confused, she's not fat. i think nastia should have take the gold. right off the bat shawn bobbled on the end of her hand spring handspring layout. her hips arent square when she does her split jump. her leaps are short of 180 and she took a step on her dismount. while nastia was flawless and the only thing she did was take a hop on her dismount

Not perfect, but incredibly impressive.

shawn is so amazing and powerful, that routine was insane! but i must say i do prefer nastia as a gymnast just because i love how graceful and flexible she is, she is just breath taking when she performs!
Coming back to this, after not watching it for ages, its such an incredible routine. Her confidence was right up here, everything went right, I was so pleased for her:) She may not have Nastia's ballet body, but my God, what an amazing, confident and powerful display:)

@adventuregirl76 floor finals were before this... when you hear her talking about her last emotional performance on floor, that was during the AA - it was pretty clear she wasn't going to beat Nastia at that point, but she did probably one of the best FX routines she had ever done. This performance on beam was her last of the Olympics.

totally deserved the gold amazing routine. extrmemly difficult and no one did anything like that in the olympics. she traveled in her jumpsonce or twice and she caught her balance few times but none the less amazing.

Nastia won bronze on floor, following Shawn (silver). I believe it was a Romanian gymnast who took gold, but I'm not positive.
The all-around wasn't the day after event finals. It's possible that NBC (or other networks) showed them in that order because most of their Olympic coverage was pre-recorded.
The first competition (after prelims) was Team, then All-Around, and the event finals followed, with beam being the last of them.

She's a good tumbler, but that's it. Boring to watch. No dance, no grace, nothing innovative. Like all the gymnast's today. Bring back the 80's and mid 90's when gymnastics was a perfect blend of dance, artistry and athleticism. The Soviets were innovators!!!

She's definately a natural. I don't understand how people say Shawn isn't graceful. She hesitates at moments to focus and to be exact on every move. Doesn't mean she's not graceful. And she's the only gymnast that you can truly tell she loves the sport during her routine, and even when she doesnt hit everything perfectly she is still proud in herself. Thats why people love her, and why shes my favorite.

I love Nastia, but I do think Shawn deserved the gold.
Shawn's routine was a lot more difficult, and she executed it almost perfectly.

I actually think Shawn diserved her gold, and I'll go farther by saying that she diserved AA gold. Shawn was cheated, not Nastia who got really really generous medals.

@basketballforward13 Actually, Shawn is 10 times better on beam and has a higher difficulty. Nastia's longer leaner lines are just more preferable, but Shawn deserves this! plus, lets see Nastia do a standing full on the beam...I dont think so!

I feel like history is repeating! the two best americans today are jordyn weiber and rebecca bross, as well as shawn johnson and nastia liukin back in 2008. I think once weiber is to become a senior, she will steal bross's spotlight (as well as shawn did) but in the end, bross will overcome her.

totally deserved the gold amazing routine. extrmemly difficult and no one did anything like that in the olympics. she traveled in her jumpsonce or twice and she caught her balance few times but none the less amazing.
BUT i met her at IGC and she is so conceded and mean, we took pics she would only simile for the pic and then she would PUSH US AWAY! and i do mean PUSH! its not like we were gonna stick around and talk bout our lives. and she only spotted us for PHOTO OP! great gymnast mean person

Nastia won bronze on floor, following Shawn (silver). I believe it was a Romanian gymnast who took gold, but I'm not positive.
The all-around wasn't the day after event finals. It's possible that NBC (or other networks) showed them in that order because most of their Olympic coverage was pre-recorded.
The first competition (after prelims) was Team, then All-Around, and the event finals followed, with beam being the last of them.

She's a good tumbler, but that's it. Boring to watch. No dance, no grace, nothing innovative. Like all the gymnast's today. Bring back the 80's and mid 90's when gymnastics was a perfect blend of dance, artistry and athleticism. The Soviets were innovators!!!

she is so strong its insane. her body was BUILT for gymnastics. im sure she works her ass off too, to stay in shape and everything but honestly you can just tell shawn was built for this. small and compact. shes so strong. i hate when people say shes fat. she had no body fat. she is 100 percent muscle. there is NO WAY she could do this without it

She's definately a natural. I don't understand how people say Shawn isn't graceful. She hesitates at moments to focus and to be exact on every move. Doesn't mean she's not graceful. And she's the only gymnast that you can truly tell she loves the sport during her routine, and even when she doesnt hit everything perfectly she is still proud in herself. Thats why people love her, and why shes my favorite.

just to remind you the sport is called artistic gymnastics for a reason. the sport used to be all about dance, grace and power. football is a very different sport where you attack other players. unless you want the gymnasts to become too masculine.
