this is fuckin bullshit. they keep removing vids off this playlist. fuck the $hungry WWE, i suplex them, put them in a camel clutch, break thier backs and make them humble. then fuck thier asses
anyone knows why in that time the Rock wore pants instead of his speedo like attire?..... I'm thinking know, maybe to not outshadow good mick fooley :S
Eric said stuff like that everyday back then, Foley ALWAYS whines about this. GET OVER IT!!!! DAMN!!!! "I became champion but you took the joy away." Boo hoo. It was business. Bischoff will never apologize for it so stop bringing it up.
Vince McMahon "That makes me wanna puke!" lol. he said that to droz when he was supposed to be the "puke" character. I saw that on Beyond The Mat i think when i was young
What made WWE the #1 show and not WCW was how Austin was SOOOOOOOO hot. He was incredibly over with the crowd. Look at this reaction. The Rock was a great talent but still developing and Mick Foley wasn't legendary at this time.
I was a huge WCW fan at the time and what Tony Schiavone did disgusted me. I remember hearing that during Nitro and it pissed me off. That was a cheap shot and even made WCW look a little desperate.
And was this also the night of the POKE? Or was that later? Because if they had talked down so much on Foley when they knew that they had one of the shittest matches ever planned would be doubly ironic
No you are right, this was the same night WCW Nitro aired The Poke of Doom which ultimately buried their WCW World Title and in the long term, the company.
Lol at Michael P(issed) S(hitless) Hayes sitting next to Jerry the Teetotal King Lawler! Jerry must have been nearly at puke point with Hayes reeking of booze!!!
i remember when wcw spoiled the wwe results. I switched to see if t\it was for real; i just kept watching because the match was great while nitro's match wasn't as great. That entire nitro could not compare to the Raw that contained Austin, the Corporate-Rock, The Undertaker, Foley, Kane, and HHH.
Mick Foley winning the World Title has to be one of the top 3 moments of the Monday Night Wars. The crowd just went nuts. Goldberg/Hogan would be in the Top 3 as well in my opinion.
I was gonna just comment with "Mick Foley put my ass in this seat!" like usual, but then I remembered he randomly jumped to TNA and devalued his legacy...
I love this segment, just hear at Bishoff!!, Is like hearing Dr Doom or something!; He can write a book of "How being a Villanous Businessman and dont feel regrets" and it be a instat Bestseller!!
Raw did put some awesome matches on around the time of this - no question. That's why it's the better show out of the WWE's programmes. Hey, they even call it the Flagship Show so they must knowingly but their best into it,
The moments when stone colds music goes off are epic. The crowd goes nuts when that music starts. Watch "backlash 2000" Triple H vs The Rock, probably the loudest crowd ever on any stone cold entry!
But maybe it isnt only because of Stone Cold the attitude era comes alive..The Rock, Mic Foley, Triple H, DX n even Kane is a part of it...The rivalry between the brothers of destruction and then their unison helped Monday Night Raw to top the listings beating Monday Nitro War....
at the end of this part when bishoff said payper view quality matches on monday nights...JR says that thats what they are doing right now on monday night raw
JR hasnt been seeing the same bullshit i see today on monday nights
when stone cold came out during the rock vs foley match, the crowd went crazy. that is something you don't see now a days in wrestling. man i miss the attitude era
The Rock's first title win a month earlier was not a straight win. Neither was Triple H's after Summerslam 1999 or Kurt Angle in 2000, or Chris Jericho's in 2001. The Undertaker won his first from Hulk Hogan with help from Ric Flair and Paul Bearer. Mankind's win was truly emotional.
Why does it have to be that way? Why can't we see one man's skills vs. another man's skills w/o interference and then determine a winner from there? WWF/E was notorious with this pattern and it turned me off. I'm a RVD fan, but didn't like how he won the title from Cena at One Night Stand. Are you with me so far? Its like when the Broncos beat the Chargers this past season with the help of Ed Hochuli's bad call.Maybe I'm just old-school but I'd rather see a straight up match w/o interference.
There has been a few instances of somebody winning by their own merits. Randy Savage defeated Ric Flair cleanly with a hand of trunks, Goldberg defeated Hogan fair and square, Booker T won his first title cleanly, Bret Hart defeated Ric Flair by submission, and Kevin Nash defeated Bob Backlund cleanly in a sqaush.
I know there are matches that had clean finishes. I just don't see how Foley and fans can see this win as emotional and felt some sort of triumph when interference was needed to achieve it. Think of it like this. Whats more rewarding...winning fair and square knowing you worked hard to get were you are or having to take shortcuts, getting a hook-up, taking drugs or cheating your way to the top? Take wrestling out the the equation, I'm talking about competition in general.
I appreciate you felt it detracted from the victory "DarkLord" but for myself those I watched it with and those in the arena (as you can clearly see) that didn't matter but it was the fact he HAD won. In his later matches with The Rock he did win clean (the empty arena match) but what was created here if you followed the storyline up to this match was the sense of sitcking it to the corporation. Because they'd been screwing people left right and centre, with DX and Austin, Foley managed to...
..screw the corporation, coupling that with HIM winning the belt from The Rock...just a feeling of euphoria from the crowd. Austin's interference came across as justified from a fans perspective because The Corporation had interfered in previous matches, so I can see, if you take it out of context, why the interference sullies Foley's title win, but in the situe of the storyline leading up to this point, made complete sense and was an epic pay off.
as a wrestling fan, i will never forget the night foley won the title for the first time. quite possibly my favorite moment ever in wrestling history.
The crowd of the Rock-Foley match was loud that you would think that there was a free WrestleMania on a Monday Night, but it was the first RAW of 1999. This was one of the best RAWs of all-time though you had Rock, Foley, The Corpration, DX, and of course Austin. I think the crowd made the show as it was a PPV like atmosphere. Plus, how could you not like Foley's "Rocky"-like victory speech after winning his first ever WWF title!
also austin was off t.v. for a little while there, and absence makes the heart grow fonder, so the crowd lost their mind when austin came out. also made it seem like (from a fan point of view) that austin o.k.'ed foley. but yeah that had to be 1 of the best raws ever. i still get goose bumps watching the crown go nuts when austins music hit!!
you are joking right? Bad News Brown and Austin had nothing in common except for the same ring gear and bald head. Thats the same as saying Goldberg ripped off Austin. Thats garbage
They had plenty in common. They were both supposed to be loners, anti-authority (BNB manhandled Jack Tunney in the days of kayfabe) and ruthless to the point of attacking heels or faces. Goldberg doesn't compare, but there are a LOT of real fans that say the only major difference between BNB and Austin was skin tone and timing. 90s fans cheered a white heel 'raising hell' but booed the black heel who did many of the same things. The 'Attitude' era was just more radical and good/bad was blurred.
BNB also didnt squirt blood out of his head against Bret and look like a bad ass passing rather than giving up.BNB beat up a kindly old man in a less "bad ass" friendly 80s environment while Austin beat up the guy that screwed Bret Hart and was used to represent everyones dickhead boss everyone watching wanted to beat to death with a tire iron
They also didnt boo the Black Heel named the Rock who arguably had a better longer run than the oft injured Austin
Really...still hanging on to the idea that wrestling is real? REALLY? Austin's passing out was because of a script. And OF COURSE things are going to evolve...Hulk Hogan wasn't doing the exact same stuff Superstar Billy Graham originally brought, but he borrowed heavily from the ideas. As for the Rock, he was booed while presented as 'black' in the N.O.D. Once his ethnicity was de-emphasized, he became popular. You're obviously a kid and that's cool. But don't blur reality and fiction
They went from booing the Rock because he was a boring overpushed outdated character to loving to hate him because he was a magnificent bastard and eventually just loving him
I remember BNB and yeah he was ahead of his time but could he have pulled off what Austin managed to do?Would it have even worked without ECW and the NWO making wrestling turn that corner?
and where did the "Cant tell its fake" thing come from?I talked about how the environment and storyline made it possible didnt I?
hogan would have never put bad news over. stone cold would put over the rock and triple h, and vice versa and make each other look good. any heel in wwf with hogan was just there to lose against him and make him look bigger than life. i think that's why he didn't become bigger than he was. plus, bad news was more popular in canada and japan. i don't think he really cared about winning the wwf title more than just getting paid at that time.
The Rock was booed for a while being in the NOD. He sorta imposed himself on the role he was given, not vice versa. If McMahon was that forward thinking, he would have PROBABLY done it from the jump. Same way Steve Austin wouldn't have been the damn Ringmaster. And yes, characters like BNB have a ceiling. But only people who just want to disagree can't see the similarities between Austin and BNB. They are mirror images with one being black and militant and the other being white and redneck
Yeah the little thing with goldberg turned out very bad and people didnt like goldberg anymore. I personally always thought that goldberg was a stone cold rip-off.
Yeah I was first turned to see Goldburg from a taping my friend recorded of that time the undefeated Goldburg.. I too thought he was a bit of a rip off of Stonecold.... I liked in 2004 with Brock, Vs Goldburg with Stonecold being Ref at WM 20.. that was amazing.. Cause you knew Stonecold didnt really like Goldburg, witch kind of gave that real fight moment..
You know what..i changed my mind about Foley, iforgot how aweosme that was. And i still love how hilarious Foley is. "Oh yeah and iw atched that episode, i remember wha thappened to Golberg" i just fucking gaffawed at the fact he RLY watched that rolforloroflloloolol!!! OH FOLEY LOLOLOL!!!
