  • this used to be a real favourite at the Fishes in Kingston. obscenely loud , of course !

  • madnessssssssssssssssssssssssssssss...

i've heard syd griffin on the radio and he's a cool dude

  • Whats that called he plays at 1:44 to 1:59 again its electric cause its plugged in so cant be a harmonica can anyone help please??

  • @ArranRodgers It is a harmonica. It just has a mike taped to it.

  • @ArranRodgers that is a Shure 520DX "Green Bullet" harmonica microphone.

  • uuuuuuHHH!!!

  • The Long Ryders were a great band and one which deserved better.

  • Can't get this on i-tunes..... :(

  • @Richmond1966 you can now ...i just bought it .

  • Saw them in a basement off Wardour Sreet London in the mid 1980's, fantastic sweaty, electric gig, unforgettable................

  • bitch'n

  • Thanks for putting this together, Mr Robinson! Great song - who on earth would vote 'dislike' for this, for crying out loud!

  • They're touring in 2012 (allegedly).

  • These guys played Belfast in the mid eighties and were amazin. Not too many bands came to us because of the violent times but that didn't bother these dudes. cool as. great song.

  • Still one of my favorite songs of the 80's

  • classic, long ryders were the tits!!

  • The Long Ryders -- another great, long lost band. I saw them in concert back in the day.

  • REM good but the Long Ryders always my best.

  • Pretty sure I saw them support the Alarm in the early days

  • @SoiCowboy2 saw sid griffin supporting Mike Peters in the 90's with his band the Coal Porters or cole porters great times

  • Was this filmed (The Clarendon?) Hammersmith Broadway?

    Saw them, there.

    The dogs bollocks!

Not too long after the Brixton (UK) riots... Cos they used to sing "Looking for Lewis and Clarke IN BRIXTON..!"

  • Thank fuck ive been looking for this for years

  • Good drinking song.

  • Very Byrds-Buffalo Springfield Influenced

  • think i remember this, great song!

  • remember this..still sounds good today..

  • Long Ryders, Minutemen...long live the originals of the 1980's!

  • Hey maybe we should tell Anton Newcombe about these guys !

  • You know what. I was thinking the same thing and then I scrolled down and read your post.

  • Sid looks like Stephen Stills' kid brother.

  • "LOOKING FOR LEWIS AND CLARK!!!!!!"

  • The GREATEST dong of the 80's! As big and wide as the Heartland. Universal Cow Punk. Massive. Rebellious and Utilitarian. Ballsy. Urgent. Sublime. Taps the Zeitgeist. Reverend Jim, send more Kool-Aid!

  • Song, not dong. Okay, dong!

  • I still have the tape....

  • almost punk fantastic

  • classic

  • Great footage of a fantastic band at the very top of its game. Combine the urgency and aggression of good punk with the melodicism of good country, throw in a heaping helping of distrust of authority from the 60's, and you've got a real taste of what the Long Ryders are all about.

  • This song has all elements of great American RnR in one song!

  • True American Rebellious Rock and Roll!!!

  • I used to love this song so much and still do!!!!! It has such a cool driving riff!!! To this day it still gets me going. Great songs never die!!!

  • one of the bands i played in used to open with this ass kickin number suuuuuperb!

  • Damn, I love this hard-drivin tune - always have!

  • yes! reminds me of a good time. and where is the cruzados video "Hanging out in California"?

  • They are playing in Atlanta on January 10 at the Variety Playhouse. God Bless you Sid!!!

  • Not Variety. At The Earl. HOLY SHIT!!!!!

  • Exactly! and they're playing the night before now as well on jan 9!! Only US shows!

  • huge

  • wow!

  • the long ryders, green on red & the dream syndicate - definitely the best of those 80s guitar bands!!! rock on, sid!!!

  • wow.. this brings back memories. Use to hang with these guys in Portland back in the day and LA. They need to do a US reunion.. how about it sid??

  • wow... still love this stuff. Miss hanging out with these guys back in the day. Hope all is well with all. They need to do a US reunion tour.. how about it guys?

  • Those sideburners!!!! WONDERFUL!!! I loved this song, and still do!!!!!

  • check out Rockin at the Roxy , came across a live vid in usa 86 , plus sid griffin singing acoustic .. the wreck of the 809? ..yup they mean what they say

cant help but think i will see them again soon ?

  • I saw the band in 84 at the gallery in manchester and the following year at manchester international, they reformed for a farewell show about 3 years ago and i saw the gig at The Fleece in Bristol,They were as good as they were back in the day.

  • Yes, I saw the Long Ryders at the Fleece & Firkin in 2004 and they were as good as when I saw them back at the Bristol Studio (now the Academy) in 1987.

Check out their latest CD 'State of our Reunion - Live 2004' which features some tracks recorded at the Fleece (plus other UK venues on that tour).

  • Man does this one take me back. starry nights gathered around a fire, this cranked up, the smell of Marlboros, Miller Light, cannabis, burning rubber (tires in the fire) and perfume.

    Now THAT was entertainment!

  • omg, used to have this on 10" vinyl,if i remember the brilliantly heartbreaking "if i were a bramble and you were a rose" was on the b-side

  • Lurve these guys , awesome mispronouciation of Mabuhay . They never played there though maybe upstairs at the Off broadway

  • The world needs more another great band who meant what they sung, like the long ryders, the Clash or Joy Division!

And the world needs TO GIVE THE RYDERS THE CRED THEY DESERVE!

  • Yes, this is it! fuck every other piss poor talentless fucking wannabee, AAAARRRRRGGGHH! I want new music to actually be good, like this stand out gem was in its day! Is that too much too ask, well, is it? Razor fucking Shite, and Ruby Ruby fucking Ruby wanks, you are not fit to even look at a musical instrument, nevermind have the audacity to pick one up and attempt to play it. Please bring back good MUSIC, its not too much to ask is it. Long Ryders, I salute you!

  • I laughed outloud when I read your this, Classic!!

I totally agree, was lucky enough to see The Long Ryders in Bristol just after Looking for Lewis and Clarke came out. They were superb and had high fives with all the band as they left the stage.

    I ain't a Kaiser Chiefs fan either!!

  • Just play from the heart, it aint too much to ask, is it? Cheers Stan, glad to have you aboard!

  • The Long Ryders never got the respect that they deserved. They were great! I love the sideburns on this one...must be cloned from mr Stills in the Buffalo Springfield clip "For What its..."

  • That's a fact. Glad I remembered them from the 80's. Glad this video survives.

  • We've just finished recording it on our demo... We're an italian cover band and we love to play 80s US independent rock songs (X, Buffalo Tom, Gun Club...) Great song, thanks for the video

  • Che forte!

  • Great Great song. I saw the band Slobberbone cover this song one night while opening up for Cheap Trick in 2002 or 2003 in Laredo Texas. It was an awesome surprise!

  • This song and video kicks a**!!!!! Ive loved this tune since it came out. thanks for posting it.

  • I loved this song back in the 80's. As I recall they were contempories and bigger than REM at the time. I wonder what ever happened to them?

  • This band should have been huge!

  • One of the best live bands I've ever seen...Nice guys to meet too! LOVE THIS VIDEO!! THANK YOU!!!

  • genuinely great band live - given how crap music was in the late 80s they should have been big

  • This should have been a hit, song went on about

30 seconds to long, and they should have taken

out the corny "louie louie lou". Sid has another band and I cant recall it's name. He's done some writing

    too.

  • Sid's playing mandolin in the "Coal porters".

  • What happened to the Long Ryders? What an absolutley class song.

  • brilliant

  • Actually jumped on stage and played this song with them with my little brother in attendance with camera at Maxwell's one drunken cold Winter night in 1984. WOW the memories. Very very solid guys and they were so good too

  • GREAT, Great video!

Now I'm looking for more Long Ryders videos! ;-)

  • I love this song!!!!!
