  • Went to school to get my MBA at Northwestern's Kellogg Graduate School of Management at the time that they came out with the song. Whoa, did they accurately describe the attitude and aptitude of a young person "heading into town" in Chicago back in that day!

  • I have lived all my life in Chicago. I just heard this song on the radio and I had to find it. :D

  • I jammed with john here and there over the years in so. il, I enjoyed when he would speak about his earlier days. He played the most inspiring part of a timeless song,a true legend, a part of american history .

  • I'm an old timer... been a lot of places, lived in a few, heard more music than I can remember... but this song always brings me back to someplace that feels good. Like someone said it is one song that makes me happy, melancholy, and reflective the same time.

  • I love this song, I feel that it has a mixture of happyness but also sadness

  • Me too, Jim. My personal condolences. His music, however, will live on.

    all the best

    skip

  • I'll miss him Skip.

  • Amen. . .

  • I worked with John Jeremial at a manufacturing plant in Illinois several years ago. He told me who he was, and I thought he was just blowing smoke. At our Thanksgiving dinner at work he sat down, and played this tune. No doubting that he was the real deal. That man who has just passed away was truly an amazing piano player. R.I.P. John. It was good to have known you.

  • Life is not a journey to the grave

    With the intention of

    Arriving safely in a pretty

    And well preserved body,

But rather to skid in broadside,

    Thoroughly used up,

    Totally worn out,

    And loudly proclaiming,

    WOW !!!! What a ride!

Well, yesterday, I was heading North when it came on...SO, I quickly got off at Fullerton, turned around and went back and YIPPEE!!! After 39 years, I was headed South on LSD listening to Lake Shore Drive!!!!!

    , Thanks Skip

  • ancestors go back 150 yrs in chicago, where i was born...alas i live in st louis, a rotten lifeless city. This song just puts me back in the right frame of mind, even if i'm not there. I can still smell the lake air at 4 in the morning...............................

  • i miss chicago...never thought id say that, moved to Tennessee, but this song brings me home. 94.7 is the best station ive ever heard, you cant go wrong with Dick.

  • Lake shore Dr. L.A. is what this song is talking about, not Chicago IL.

  • Comment removed

  • @HaploStrong you are a fucking idiot Jeremiah had a thing in our local news paper abou tthe band (he lives by me) and the song is about lake shore drive in chicago, it was the road to their recording studio. DUMBASS

  • @HaploStrong Don't think so. It's definitely about Chicago. Lyrics refer "starts up at Hollywood," yes, but this is Hollywood Ave in Chicago. It's the street that dumps onto Lake Shore Drive on the far North Side. Look at a map. Also, the song references the Gold Coast, a famous Chicago neighorhood on the near North Side.

  • @HaploStrong dumbass.... smh -__-

  • i just moved 2 chicago from a small southern ohio town but i have always came 2 chicago 2 visit family and this is a great song and a grerat road when there not traffic lol

  • This great song will always be my personal ODE to having grown up in Chi-town and coming of age there, and yes, I always enjoyed heading north OR south on Lake Shore Drive- it's beautiful anytime of the year! Thanks for posting!

  • I want to play this song really bad but can't find piano tabs anywhere :( Love it tho.

  • I've never lived in Chicago, but this song STILL makes me wistful for my days a youth, driving all over my home state. It also makes me wish I was a Chicago resident (although I'm proud to have been raised in the South). Beautifully done, and I'm not surprised that it makes Chicago folks misty-eyed.

  • Happened to think of this song today for no particular reason. It's still beautiful and holds it's musical integrity beyond the limits of time.

  • Happened to think of this song today for no particular reason. It's as wonderful as I had remembered. Never receives the air play it should.

  • anyone out there miss the "S" curve......I do....LOL

  • On*

  • Oakking what is stupid about it? The fact that you don't understand the song? You do know what this song is actually about right? The video is awesome. Especially for those "slipping by km LSD" which I'm not BTW.

  • LSD FTW

  • I left Chicago long ago because there was so much ugliness there... but this one song always reminds me that there were GOOD times to be had in Chicago too.

    Thanks.

  • Been down LSD Friday nite trouble-bound quite a few times.

  • I am a former Milwaukeean who spent a lot of time in Chicago during my college days and I loved this song back then, and it still runs through my mind today... brings back so many great memories! ...from a "Chicagoan at heart"! :) Just had an urge to listen to this song again after all these years!..thanks for having it on youtube so I can get my 'fix"!

    God bless!

  • @StarRider1250 they stil play this in chicago at least once a day on 94.7 wlsfm

  • song is good but this video is stupid.

  • A friend of ours who passed away this last December told my husband that when he and his wife were dating they would listen to this while driving on LSD. This song holds a lot of memories for a lot of people.

  • My most favorite song ever!! dated this beautiful gal on the South Side who bashed this song one too many times & I broke up with her:) Never a regret.I will always love this song as well as your other songs!! I'll be hittin you up around October for your song package for a Christmas gift.Btw do you have adopt a pet on cd too? I would love to purchase that!! Oh & who is that beautiful lady in the pic who's bed you are hiding under? lol

  • What a song, what a drive. Always the lake on one side, and parks on the other. Drive it everyday to work, still love to drive it these many years later. And every once in a while you hear it on the good old WLS (FM not AM).

Just a great song and a great ride, Even when LSD is backed up, still fun to drive, just look out the window left or right, ahead or rear view mirror - wow what a view.

  • Amazing song, my grandpa turned me onto this band and I have been hooked ever since. Amazed that they were not much bigger than they were, but very happy to see thta you can still purchase the album on iTunes, just purchased it!

  • Just listening to this song makes me miss driving Lake Shore from Bridgeport to North Michigan everyday to get to work. Driving on Lake Shore and seeing that skyline during the day and at night is the most beautiful thing in the world. Thanks for the posting the song.

  • you can find me all year round swimming long distance at the beaches in chicago from evanston to rainbow beach unless its ice over. the photos and video clips are on openwaterchicago web site . diver dave ladder #1 oak st beach

  • this is the greatest song of all time. it always warms my heart and makes my eyes a little wet with happiness ! i swim long distance at oak st , Montrose and 57th st beach all year round and the views are always very beautiful.

  • I LOVE this song. It's my favorite and always makes me happy - no matter what crap is going on in life. They don't know it here in Florida...which makes me homesick for Chicago. Thanks, Skip!

  • Best city in the world !!!

  • That violinist was Joe Golan and he was esteemed. He still complains how little he was paid for he session.

  • @PETCDs

  • @PETCDs Joe Golan from Chicago Symphony? You probably knew this, but so others do too, he passed away about six weeks ago aged 80. His son Lawrence is also a prominent violinist, arranger and conductor.

  • @PETCDs ..Back in 68 Mitch Aliotta was with Rotary Connection..he was friends with our bands bass player Jim Guilmette..he brought Mitch down to our basement one Sunday morning to visit during our practice...wow..played a little bass. jammed I.remember he lit his cigarette with a matchbook from The Quiet Knight...I remember that every time I hear this.

  • @PETCDs seriously?

  • yes

  • Emotional song for those of us growing up in Chicago in the 60s & 70s. Still a favorite that gets play time on my CD player. Skip, I worked with your mom, Dana, at Process Research back in the early 70s. She was a hoot and would always feign indignation when this song came on the radio and I'd shout "I love this fiddle part!" She wanted everyone to know that was an esteemed violinist from the Chicago Symphony Orchestra! Fun times. Thanks for this timeless song, Skip.

  • Just trippin on by on LSD, headin into town

  • Just trippin on down on LSD, headin into town..

  • I had no idea this was on Youtube. Skip--great memories and I still have my signed album. Carole Heitlinger McKinstry (Bob's daughter)

  • Skip, Thanks for posting this. Remember you well from Donovan's, Durty Nellies and such. Last sighting was at the Cubby Bear with Big Twist at a fund raiser for John Taheny's bro. Time flys. Are Mitch and John still about? As ever be well,

  • I love this song and I am sure it doesn't mean anything else, just like Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds ;-)

  • Absolutely magical. Thanks Mr. Haynes.

  • this is one all time song that stays in my heart, 6 kids later they love it too and they are now the age when I first heard this song. It also brings back the emotional and good memories that I have felt and known slipping on by on Lake Shore Drive cruisin and being alive. tks petscd!

  • There is no greater feeling than driving on LSD with the top down on a clear summer day...with your lady at your side.

  • Great video, city and drive. Beautiful shot at 1:54...must have been a Sunday morning : )

  • This is absolutely one of the best songs ever to come out of Chicago.Every time it comes on the radio I turn up my speakers full blast sing along and I'm 63 years old.God Bless America, Bill

  • I'm stationed overseas and listen 2 it alot.. I have a great time where I'm and what I'm doing.. But ill b back someday and go on a cruise down in the 67' Impala...

  • This came out the same year I was born.................in Chicago. Hence this song always has a special place in my heart..............almost brings tears to my eyes thinking about my former hometown.

  • I need help if anyone could help. I just read on Wikipedia that the writer of the song lake shore drive reworked the song to include something that deal's with last week's billzard that effected lake shore drive. I can not find the song does anyone have that recording I would love to hear it.

  • I remember listening to this on WLS when it was THE Chicago radio station to listen to. Brings back so many good memories of living in the City--thank you for the years of memories that this brought back. :D

  • Just cruising around and looked up LSD. And there you all were. It's been eons ..........Panama Reds.

Couldn't seem to find "Snow Queen" or "Uppers & Downers"

    AzSunBum1953

  • well this song isn't only about Chicago lol. Its just as much a reference to LSD. Blue lights, no road just like it, slippin by on lsd friday night trouble bound, great song though, name one time that the song came on and you didn't sing along to it (when you were alone)

  • Jeez I miss it so....

  • Greatest song about Chicago, ever. I now reside in the Southeast and this song just makes me miss my favorite city in the world...

  • CHICAGO, BEST CITY IN THE WORLD, except in winter

  • Good to see this on YouTube. I was working a copy shop in Van Nuy's about thirty Years ago. Some guy came in asked me to make cassette copies of a 'Demo' tape and told me to make one for myself. "You have to hear this." So yeah, later I bought it.

Play it a lot. Especially when I take my kid to the beach by Shedd Aquarium.. What a great group!

  • A great video for a great song.

I still have the record that I purchased way back when this song came out.

And whenever I'm in the area driving north or south through Chicago, I prefer taking LSD (Lake Shore Drive) instead of the expressways.

  • Right you are jkoncz, KSHE plays this song. But that is not a surprise, because all they do is play great music, and this song is great music...

  • @cleanholio you got that right!!

  • I grew up in Chicagoland, but moved to Dallas and couldn't believe it when I learned that there were people here who had not even heard of this song. =/

  • I haven't heard this song since I left Chicago in June, 1993, it was one of the last songs I could pick up on WXRT, as I was driving on I-55 on my way to a new life in Phoenix !!!!!

  • Drove truck into Chicago in the 80's just to hear this song on the radio...GREAT STUFF

  • Comment removed

  • West Allis! I wish this could be about Milwaukee's LSD, but Chicago's is nicer. Everytime I drive either I think of this song.

  • i moved to san diego in 78 this song and l.a. goodbye ,ides of march take me back

  • @BigBishop1 your living in san diego and you miss chicago? You gotta be kidding!!

  • @jkoncz certain things cant be replaced by sunshine and palm trees

  • @BigBishop1 Name one?

  • @jkoncz wrigley field

  • Wow what a great song. This song never gets old

  • The last minute and 15 seconds is my favorite part, but the whole song is just beautiful...it's a shame it doesn't get much airplay though.

  • I miss my hometown, Chicago.

  • The greatest song of all time. I love LSD AND SHROOMS.

  • I LUV this song.... I LUV Chicago! It is a beautiful City, the BEST!

  • One fine smooth song. Didn't know it and in the summer of 1991 it seems it is all I heard on this oldies station when I was seeing a girl who meant a lot to me but she left.

  • Thanks for posting it Skip. Grew up with this song. Another one that was done is the second track on the CD, the title slips me now.

  • Legendary

  • fucking much thanks man.... wounderfull...

  • Love those mustaches

  • The ultimate late summer nights, truckin down the interstate, headed across the country,song....First heard it on WLS many years ago...Looked up the CD on Amazon and had to buy it...Great tune and will never get tired of hearing it...

  • The song is right, there's nuthin' better than headin' south on Lake Shore Drive at 4AM, windows rolled down, sunroof open and Alliotta Haynes and Jeremiah blasting on the stereo.

  • One of my top 10 favorite songs.

Cant explain what it means to me or why....

    Its just a special song.

I feel light as a feather and overwhelmed just listening to it.

    BEAUTIFUL

  • If I didn't know any better, I might think they're not really talking about a road in Chicago. ;)

  • Wow, can't believe I found this! I have owned this album for years! I live close to Chicago and this was always our "road trip" song! Brings back many memories of friends who are still here, but friends who are also gone...This song was just so "groovy", picked 'ya up and laid 'ya back down, too!

  • LOVE IT! THANK YOU! This is my mantra. I live in L.A. and can't wait to retire back in Chicago. This song gets me through a bad day at work or a rush hour traffic jam, and keeps my hope to return home alive. Biondi will even play it on request! A great flashback! Thanks again!

  • THANK YOU! Living in L.A. now, I'll retire back home in Chicago. This song gives me hope. Biondi still plays it on wls when requested. LSD is my mantra, and keeps me going, I know I'll make it home. Thanks for the flashback!

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you! This song has helped me through some challenging times. Living in California now, I WILL return home to Chicago when I retire! Just a few more years! Even helps me to play this when I'm stuck in the legendary, horrible L.A. traffic! A great Flashback moment, even Dick Biondi (WLS-FM) plays it on request! LOVE IT, LOVE U GUYS! Thank you!

  • This bringa back many fond memories of driving LSD when I grew up in Chicago. Thanks guys.

  • This brought a tear to my eye, just love it, always have and always will. It's a shame they took the "curve" out of LSD, scared the dickens out of more than one person taking it at 50 plus miles per hour, what fun! From the bottom of this Southsiders heart, Thank You.

  • Thank you for posting it, Skip! This song has meant so much to me over these past 30-some years - it should have been a national hit. I can't help but sing along every time I hear it. Does it still get airplay in Chicago?

  • @57buickcentury

Still gets a little. I'm glad you enjoy the music. Thanks

    Skip

  • @57buickcentury

Yes, Dick Biondi plays it. I LOVE this song!

  • @57buickcentury I'm from near Chicago (far north side), but I don't like this song because I'm from there, I love this song because of the amazing sound. I had the good fortune to hear this song live by AH&J at a small bar in Palatine, and when the piano burst into song, it was a memory to live for. I've been to a lot of concerts, and that's at the top of my list of live performances.

  • @57buickcentury It was a big hit in St. Louis and still gets play on KSHE FM!

  • @jkoncz dude STL FOR LIFE. although i prefer Khits now

  • @jkoncz - Is KSHE not the single greatest rock station ever?

  • @57buickcentury i live in chicago and i've never heard it probly only plays on rare acasions like alices resteraunt only plays around thanksgiving

  • @57buickcentury It's on daily usually on the local Oldies station (94.7)

    \

  • I was there when they were playing and singing the song near LSD, on and near Rush St. in the late 60's.

  • Quite possibly the most beautiful song of all time. They don't record them like this ananymore.

God, this makes me homesick so bad I could puke my brains out. LOVE IT! Is the rest of the live version I just got a tease of here on YouTube?

  • @Rafaeldamian Thank you very much. The rest of the live version is not on Youtube at this time but maybe I'll make a video of that version and post it.

    thanks

    skip haynes
