Im getting a power plant in my back yard, the next RFP from the OPA is for KW/Guelph/Cambridge. I can deal with it because it is essential for the lifestyle that EVERYBODY in Ontario is accustomed to. Nextly, cars emit more emissions per unit of energy than a power plant does, so the next thing everybody in Oakville should focus on is getting the QEW and Ford manufacturing facility shut down. This way C4CA will have the clean air that they are seeking.
I'm for it! Just wait until they cut your power... then you'll be for it too!!! The reason they want it there is because of what is called line losses. The line losses are a loss in voltage over a specific length of cable. The further away it is, the bigger the plant has to be. Do you really think that you're that important that just because you have a NIMBY attitude that the whole world should suffer??? think again selfish... move!
As a resident of Oakville, I can attest that this is a commuter community. Has anyone actually stopped to consider the fact that Oakville roads are completely congested with traffic 24/7?? It is completly insane. As a pedestrian (I am a student) it is so bad that I feel unsafe actually crossing the street at crosswalks. Consider the fact that in this video you are complaining about air quality in Oakville, while the community...
i live in oakville but don't care if they build a powerplant at all. the natural gas power is a bad idea if thet built a steam, coal, or nuclear power plant, something with less emmisions, i would encourage they build it that way
Coal? less emmissions? than, natural gas? You must be one of those old timers who did alot of drugs in the 60's and today owns shares in the coal industry
I say we DESTROY this AND ALL OTHER POWER FACILITIES! Destroy the jobs, burn our homes down, land fill all our electronics, and then who the hell needs a power plant! Im ready when you are! Actually, fuck it. BUILD THE GOD DAMN POWER PLANT YOU FUCKING PUSSY ASS MCGUINTY COCK SUCKING SELL OUT
Be quiet Oakville..you got rid of Petro Can in the west end...and Petro Can in the East end and that stinky Ford paint factory..but we still got st.lawrence cement. Im in Charnwood...And i say bring it on...we all need this for our future...
you realize that even though you're in charnwood this still affects you - we're all the same air shed, it's not like pollution stops at the edge of town.
You can thank Dalton mcguinty. He promised to get rid of coal, but the only way to do it is to build smaller gas fired plants in everyones back yards.
The site of the proposed gas power plant is next to to 50 year old Ford complex. Housing was built too close to that complex. Building the gas plant there worsens the problem. The location is motivated by Ford's desire unload surplus land and the easy connection to power grid. The plant should probably be located in an undeveloped area in North Oakville that is properly zoned and surrounded by industrial uses like the Goreway Plant. Cheaper land cost since not near QEW
Anyone who is not against the installation of this power plant is not from the area and therefore couldn't care less about the air quality here in Oakville. They're reaction would be quite different if it were happening to them would it not?
@crosssmoth Do you support the use of nuclear energy?
I am not against this plant at all. Nor am i against the use of nuclear energy. But let me tell you this. I live in Elliot Lake ontario, and we have more uranium tailings and acidic lakes then any place on earth. If you want to ramble about people not caring because it doesnt affect them, well my drinking water causes cancer pal And I still SUPPORT NUCLEAR ENERGY, and they use URANIUM in that industry much of it came from ELLIOT LAKE
I am curious when was the footage taken of the Goreway plant? What we they burning in the one stack with the yellow plume? Was it perhaps during an oil test burn instead of natural gas? I have visited lots of GT power plants and never seen a plume like that. More like a coal fired power plant plume.
TransCanada seem to be manipilating this space. The Clarkson Airshed Study looked at air quality in this area, looking at the data from ambient air monitoring and air quality modeling. The province's study states that the air in this area is much worse than average.
The task force will report back by June 30, 2010 on a detailed action plan to improve air quality through the reduction of emissions form local industrial, vehicular and residential sources in the Clarkson-Oakville Airshed.
Very misleading video too. I like how you call the Oakville plant "bigger" than Goreway when in fact it will have only two units with higher output and two stacks, as opposed to the Goreway plant six. In Reality the Oakville plant will have a smaller foot print. Way to mislead your viewers. (isn't that the idea though?). NIMBYS
People who do not work in the power industry should not give opinions on the power industry. The only renewable that can reliably support the grid is water. WIND is not the answer because the yields out of the typical wind farm are only about 30%. It can only supplement what is reliable, ie: Gas, Nuclear, Hydro, "Dirty" coal. You people make me sick with your plentiful input on this matter and total lack of knowledge.
What happens is some environmentalists, who holds no engineering degree, comments on why wind and solar should replace everything we have and why coal and gas should be eliminated as soon as possible.
Solar will get more reliable but I don't see it replacing the mainstay power generation methods. Nuclear should certainly be expanded. Unfortunately we have groups like Greenpeace that doesn't know what nuclear is and then seeks to stop it. Oh boy!
I would assume that those against will be removing the natural gas furnace from thier home? They will also stop lining up at the Timmy's drive through with motors idling. A clear case of NIMBY!!
i'm not sure if you can really call this a clear case of NIMBY - more like not in anybody's back yard. i certainly wouldn't wish it upon you, although perhaps if you're so willing ...
Anyone watching this video is using electricity, if you want to keep using your computer, you will need power, they are building this plant so that there will enough power as the GTA grows over the coming years. Get over it.
I read rubish like this all the time from people like you. I understand you have no real knowledge of power generation or real knowledge of why your lights come on but unlike you I do not focus an opinion on things I know nothing about. Do yourself a favour and educate yourself then your opinion might be of some value.
The hearings at Oakville Town Hall are expected to last until Friday. Plan to attend daily starting at 10:00am. We need your support of solidarity opposing a power plant.
Why don't you ask the grid to supply your house with only green power supply then shut up when your bill jumps by a factor of 4 or if you don't like gas fired generation remove your furnace and stop driving your car. People like you simply have no clue and clog the progression of growth.
it has nothing to do with green power, or how much your bill costs - in most areas and even the US you simply aren't allowed to build a plant of this size in a residential area period, let alone this near such a large amount of homes and schools.
nobody here is trying to clog progression and growth, but maybe you don't particularly have a clue about the effect that it will have on the already polluted air quality of the area and how negatively it will effect people's health.
The fundamental question is not if the plant will live or not but why is it being built there. No one asks this question and receives adaquate feedback since again almost no one understands the basic requirements for the placement of a power plant. In the case of this plant and Goreway and Halton Hills etc is the inability of the gov't to forecast power demand and transmission to allow the plants be built in more non domestic locations. Ask your local MP and have him answer this!
I'd love to go to the town meeting, but on a Tuesday morning? Most of us have to go to work! Is there any way we can re-schedule to a Saturday or at least in the evening during a weekday perhaps?

It's like they've never heard of green, renewable, clean power sources such as solar, wind, etc.
It makes me sick.. If this thing get's built ANYWHERE I will be there to protest. I will never see this be done.
