  • Being from rural Minnesota, polka music is something that I've heard on many occasions, and the wedding chicken dance is one of them. I remember when I was six years old, learning how to do the dance from my grandmother at my cousin's wedding.

My grandpa also "gave" me a beer, but I didn't like the taste so he slammed it down like a boss and sent me on my way.

  • Lol. :)

  • OMG how did I get here..

  • The last time I did this was a few years ago at my cousin joff's wedding. His mother on the other hand specifically said to those in charge of the music NOT to do this song. I think that was crazy for her to say that. It always adds to the fun of the wedding reception.

  • I think this is at a wedding... lol

  • wath is the song called?

  • the chicken dance with polka music

  • It went in to Germany in the 80s, but it came from the Netherlands, I think! LOL !!! Ha ha ha. My Granny loved It...

  • @The007BLUESMAN The original is Swiss. A version called !the Birdie song" was no:2 here in 1981 for ages and sold a million. Very famous song here.

  • BETTER THAN THE BEATLES!

  • Possibly THE whitest dance on the planet. Aside from maybe the YMCA.

  • @jeveuxlesoleil hahaha

  • i danced to this :)

  • Very well done.

  • The music in this clip is quite excellent. Cute dancing but this musical version is the best I've heard in years.

I agree, very nice music. I wish american weddings were this fun!

  • OMG, I remember when I was a bridesmaid for my uncle's wedding, they played this but only a small handful actually danced to it. It was so embarrassing my dad and I went outside with my cousin because it was too awful to watch hahaha...

  • retard party

  • @Dash02 its called fun dumb shit

  • It's written by a swiss composer :" IL ballo del qua qua".

But tells of a gosling or duck.

The real translation it's "The squeak dancing" !!

  • HI! It's a famous italian polka danced in a region called Romagna on the Adriatic sea!!!!

  • @doberdamned The original song is from Switzerland. I don't know about this dance though!

  • The music was introduced in 1981 or the dance? Why does the Lawrence Welk chicken dance clip call it "Chicken Dance" and it was done way before 1981?

  • lol i did this dance drunk at westfest, lol :)

  • LMAO!!!! They really get into the beat and do it quite well!

  • I think this tune still fills the dance floor at weddings (not toffs weddings, but regular folks) here in UK. We pretend to hate it, but of course secretly we love it. A few beers helps though :o) Piggy wiggy winklers.

  • they played this song at the cultural fair.....I wish i would have danced to it.......

  • Classic......

  • Verry funny!

In french this song is call "La danse des canards"

  • Any money says these happy and interacting people are NOT in the U.S.A maybe thats why you americans think this dance is shit....because you cant do it.

  • Sorry, pal, you've obviously never been to Bethlehem during Musikfest, nor to Pennsylvania to any town. Polka is our state dance, and the Chicken Dance is well known here, and we're all pretty happy, even with all the crap going on. Also, lech mich am Arsch!

  • every classroom dances this in kindergarden

  • hmm very beautiful dance :D

  • In USA you have Bush But Atak so in Polen we have duck dance :)

  • hahahaha well said !

  • Its the chicken dance!!!the chicken dance!!!the chicken dance!!!

  • looks like a good time

  • why is chicken dance called POLKA??

  • HA, My guess is that they are DRUNK!!!!..

  • I think that's the only way adults could/would do it :P

  • Because - musically speaking - "The Chicken Dance" is piece of Swiss polka music.

Originally it was "The Duck Dance" ("Der Ententanz") however due to a fail when it was introduced to the USA in 1981, it became "The Chicken Dance."

  • I'm confused...did the dance come to the U.S. in 1981 or the music? Why does the Lawrence Welk "Chicken Dance" YT clip also call it the Chicken Dance and it was taped way before 1981

  • Cute way to dance!

  • NAme of the song?+

  • Are you serious?

  • This is kaczyński song

  • this is funny!

  • Only in Illinois :)

  • I'm trying to spread the gospel of the Chicken Dance here in Hawaii. Thanks for your video... it will help me get the spirit of the dance across to my converts. That is, IF I can get them to stop doing the hula long enough to watch it, :P

  • well americans doesnt that spirit !!!

    happy spirit!!

just baseball beer oh yea... and britney spears

  • oh you americans....trying to have culture LOL

  • amen it is fun when u and a group of ppl r doing it even though u can't help but laugh cuz u r all embarrasing urselves. especially when ur the only one doing it then it is reallly embarrassing.

  • This song comes from Spain and its called "Los Pajaritos". Search in Google "Maria Jesus y su Acordeon".

  • Creepy... I prefer just this song version... Little less creepy and all. But yeah, this is fun.

  • it came from France

  • It came from Poland...hence the Polka

  • Actually, it came from Switzerland. A Swiss German wrote it.

  • Actually, POLKA (GENERALLY!) came from today's Czech republic. It was born in society of universitie, where were lots of foreigners...and, of course, Polish as well. So, it was named after Poles, the students who were often dancing it - but while they were on czech land (BUT it was part of Austrian empire that time, that was a very multicultural place). It is possible, that it was firstly written by German, Czech, Frenchman, Pole, Englishman...anyone.

But is THIS really important? :)

  • Where it comes from doesn't really affect how fun it is to do that dance, right?

  • But it's really fun.

  • I will give you that, and at least it is clean fun.

  • I swear I am going to have this at my wedding reception. I am from MN and my groom is from podunk, IA so why not? lol. When it gets REALLY fast, everyone will get to see me, the bride, land flat on her ass because of my bad sense of balance ha ha, fun for everyone! tee hee hee.

  • im getting married june 7th 2008

and im playing this one at the reception i will be laughing hysterically when it gets really fast lol

  • how was it? happy new weds!

  • The artist who created this song and dance died today, Bob Kames of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. RIP.

  • It's NOT a wedding in MI unless you do the chicken dance!!!

  • Is this Polish or French Canadian?

  • Chicken Dance is considered Polish. But this wedding took place in Illinois. Regardless of background, this is a pretty popular at weddings in the midwest.
