  • very,very good great

  • Beautiful slide show to go with the world's greatest train song. This train has got the disappearin' railroad blues.

  • Along with "The City of New Orleans" I enjoy Johnny Cash's "Come along and ride this train" Brilliant

  • Did you know that this song saved the City of New Orleans from being retired and that Arlo Guthrie held a benefit ride on the train featuring this song after New Orleans was flooded by Katrina in 2005?

  • The best train song ever.

  • @johntracy72 I agree! Thanks for watching! :)

  • great piece of material... nostalgia at its best

  • @TVJRP Thanks so much!

  • Excellent presentation. My grandfather and great grandfather both worked for Southern Pacific. I feel both pride and sadness at the same time. Thank-you for sharing.

  • @JEGS0908 Thank YOU for watching and commenting! :)

  • I would dearly love to visit the U.S and ride this train, maybe just maybe I will one day if I don't leave it too late

  • @1busybeekeeper Oh, do make an effort to ride any American train! They're all fantastic!

    Thanks for watching! :)

  • Very nicely done.

  • i hate being born in the 90's --____--

  • I like but arlo Guthrie does sing it better :)

  • You've took the three things I love and put them into one video: Willie Nelson, Illinois Central Railroad, and good picture. thanks from Georgia Boy JT

  • Reminds me of those trips I took from college from Utica back home to Virginia. I was always on the late train home and early train back to school. It always my favorite memories seeing the pink skies and that sleepy calm falling over the passanger car. And I often thought of this song from when I was 6 and first heard it on a tape my dad bought full of train songs.

  • i love this song... my mom is leaving on the city of new orleans next week..

  • Nice job!! I would have chosen Arlo instead of Willie, though.

  • Thanks so much for posting this . This song takes me back to a less hectic crazy time. puts me in a better state of mind...

  • I love the 3 steamers coming head on at 2:08

  • @Countrychiddler Ya! Love it also .. P

  • Great photo's and great Music - well done! Brings a feeling of pride in my day to day work as I am employed in the Railways here in the UK - and I do love steam trains best!

  • wonderful! Thank you.

  • love this song

  • excelente.

  • wish i could find a non live original Arlo version of the song, good Vietnam era song

  • We dont have ability for such songs in our straight french country !

I need (at last) a green card !

  • Thank you.

  • Nice shots - I just hate Willie. It's as if it's a foregone conclusion that anyone can have a good song but it for Willie to yake it off your hands and make it a great one.

He's is a parasite to the music industry.

  • Willie and trains what could be better..with your clothes on....lol

  • Thanks what a great snapshot of America (the song) and I have been on, or seen up close most of those trains in my lifetime.

And some day Willie will be gone too, what a treasure his music is for future kids

  • Brings back memories of being in my fathers car, he used to play this quite a lot, Used to think it was funny. Now I just think it's a GREAT song and tune.

Great collection of photo's to support the song, thanks for sharing.

  • Absolutely beautiful!

  • Very Nice!

  • GBA = Gob Bless America. Who and where else in the world? Thanks.

  • Thank you. My daddy was a Railroad Man working on the Southern Pacific line, from El Paso to Los Angeles. In the 50's he was a Switch Man at Taylor Yard, but he had worked every job except Engineer. We had a pass, and rode trains a lot.

Thank you again, my dad would have loved it. Can you see YouTube from Heaven?

  • This is a great railroad song my late grandfather worked for the railroad.

  • this is great!!!! loved it!

  • Hope your Dad liked it. I sure did! Thanks.

  • @erniegannsmate He did like it! Thanks. I'm glad you liked it, too! :)

  • @mirrenfan2 great video nice opening shots of the IC but I am most fascinated by the shots of the RCP train (Royal Canadian Pacific) first @:23 and @:40 on Morants Curve and @2:42 I have never seen this train in a video with this music quite an assortment of trains in here I have rode and or photographed every train in this video except for the old IC

  • @mirrenfan2 I love trains, retired from the BNSF and loved the vid. Thanx from Missouri

  • It brings backl wonderful memories. My two grand fathers were railway men for the Can Pacific and Can National. I am a son of the steam age. Your father is a privileged man to have such a thoughful daughter. God bless your family. Gilles France

  • Thank you! :)

  • EXCELLENT !!

  • Thank you! :D

  • @mirrenfan2 Great stuff! Now we can choose between Amtrak, Amtrak, or Acela. Miss those old trains so much. Thanks for giving us a window into those days.

  • Thankfully the railroads are on their way back. Hopefully there will not be any more "dissapearing railroad blues". I love the railroads and remember some great times on the trains and playing along the trackside. This song is the greatest American railroad song and I sing it all the time when I am at work.

  • love it. love america.fantastic.

  • Thanks! :)

  • what a heart warming gift.thank you for sharing this with everyone.god bless from louisiana.

  • I spent 11 years tied to a machine at a GM plant in Anaheim CA I memorized this song and it always blessed me reminding me of 2:30 when I would drive home.

  • thank you....

  • Thank YOU for watching and commenting! :)

  • mirrenfan2...great work! Thanks. My favorite song. My grandfather engineered a steam locomotive around the Great Lakes in the 30s, 40s, and 50s. I used to ride with him when I was a kid in the late 40s and early 50s. Sweet memories here with a beautiful song. Thanks, again!

  • I'm glad you like it so much. Thanks! :)

  • Thank you!

  • Really beautiful pics and of course a great song.

Thx a lot for sharing ! ******* Best wishes from Germany **** TINA

  • Cool job. Someone needs to put a collage of Amtrak's current California Zephyr to ol' hank William's song as well. But so far haven't seen such.

  • Awsome Video! My 3 year old loves the train pictures. Could do one to Arlo Guthries version of this song? Great job keep up the good work!

  • If you use the search facility, type in Arlo Guthrie, and it will list all his songs on youTube, inc the truly magnificent and inspirational version of City of New Orleans. Video is not as good but the song is better, in my opinion.

  • Always feel like I'm on the train with him. Willie is quite unbeatable, can sing just about any song. You might have gathered that I like him.

  • cool video

  • Thanks! :)

  • Used to always listen to this in the car with my Mam. Everytime it used to really piss off my bro after a few years...

  • Nice tribute to the railways of the past! Willie sings "City..." as well as Arlo! Beautiful photo montage to accompany a classic song from rural America!

  • Awesome! I love trains, and this song.

  • Thanks! :)

  • Thank you, mirrenfan. You have a great selection of pictures to go along with a great song by Willie. I am sure your Dad really enjoyed this video and acknowledged the time and effort you put into it. We have been on the Durango train a couple of times... makes me want to go again!

  • Yeah Willie Nelson is great!!
