@Lightena Probably not deaf. They most likely had Stendhal Syndrome. They were so overwhelmed by the sheer beauty of the piece and Evgeny's interpretation that in their psychosomatic convulsions or hallucination, they inadvertently clicked the wrong button.
quick story: I'm rather resourceful and I can usually find my music for free. So I was searching for Kissin's int. of the Liebestraume and couldn't find it. There were two other versions I found for free on the internet... and I went on iTunes and purchased this interpretation. To date, this is the only file I've ever purchased from iTunes.
Kissin is an amazingly pianist. Some say he play too strict/clean. He is full of feelings in my opinion. Kissin for mozart and lizst. Zimerman for Chopin.
i don't know.. but i love lang lang's version more! it's not about his 'dance' or anything... i just love how LL's interpretation touches my heart deeply! no offence!
@Dan474834 I think the two - his music and his love life - are separate issues. I meant before that he's probably more focused on his music right now and doesn't have time for anything else. I don't think there's anything wrong with that - just listen to the results!
I think he played the note passage and 2:40 a bit to harsh, you don't need to hit us over the head with it XDD , just back off a little and that it ^w^
@Dihelson We noticed, but it doesn't really detract from the piece. I mean, we're not really judging him on technical perfection here. It's Liebestraeume, you know? he's all soul here.
Doesn't require a highly advanced technique like most other Liszt pieces, but what does make this piece rather difficult is playing it musically well. To let the melody sing out from the other notes is difficult to master at first.
@percussionist624 It requires similar technique to the perhaps better known (and in my honest, however unusual, opinion, easier) Chopin Etude no 3 Op 10 in E with the very controlled touch techniques - both are great pieces and show great ability because having such a delicate yet masterful touch to bring the melody out while having such a beautiful accompaniment is what sets certain pianists above others.
@percussionist624 hmm i've been playing this piece for a while and i found it quite easy to let the melody sing out from the other notes. i really want to say that it's "technically easy but hard because you have to induce the emotions" blahblah, etc. but it cant be denied that its a pretty easy piece lol (compared to other Liszt's pieces of course)
@percussionist624 because I naturally have great interpretive expression, I find it easy to get this piece to "sing", but those cadenzas make this piece a drag, I'm setting them off for later to learn :P
this is seriously the best i have ever heard this beautiful piece played - percfect feel for the melody, and GREAT timing + dynamics ... as i listened to this, time just stopped for me, then time fast forwarded as the piece finished ... fantastic :D well done you :):)
timing + dynamics feel the 3 part of the piece: the thinking of the dream before falling asleep, the dream and the fight not to get awake, the awake and return to reality. No one else around seems to take care about the plot of the opera
Pieces such as this are so beautiful and for someone to express this emotion, in my opinion, as well as this, truely are unbelievable..... it just makes you remember how incredible Franz Lisz was to actually compose something which, without a doubt, touches everyones hearts
Kissin wins the best Liebestraum interpretation but Lang Lang wins the best interpretative dance while playing this piece with kissin in second place.
@bjjguru 1st ) he is a professional therefore great in pedaling 2nd ) its top quality concert piano - even when you play notes simultaneously you can barely hear them blend together
Hello there! I am a 15 year old aspiring musician, and Liebestraum No.3 is one of the most beautiful pieces I've had the pleasure of playing. I would really appreciate it if you check out my video for this piece on my channel and leave me comments and advice. Thanks!
I can't say that it's my favourite version of the piece...
He doesn't stress some notes intensively enough for my taste- Horowitz does the same thing with Chopin-i think. He plays more emotionally, and not so intense
PS The piece is my favourite throuhout the whole history of music- up to 1/6/2011
This is the best I've heard Kissen play in terms of feeling and expression. While he has always had an impressive command of the piano, I've always thought that finding the best interpretation has eluded him.

@JazzAce340 Thanks for an incredibly beautiful and profound comment. I agree with you. An artist can only truly express and convey when there is an inner world to them...a real artist only speaks about what is inside. And not everybody is nurtured by beauty, love, despair, every part of human experience by turns sad and sweet. Nietzsche said that it is necessary to have chaos within in order to be able to place a star in heaven. So true, chaos precedes creation.
Some weeks ago, i thought i was a good pianist, but now i know that i'm nothing.
i think there are some people with the skills to play this, but i don't think anybody will can compose somthing this hard and this beautiful ever. if liszt was alive, and if he heard me trying to play this, for sure i would kill him again.
sorry for my english, just tried to share this with you all.

The melody was so Germanic, and the difficulty so Liszt, and the performance so sublime. Simply beautiful.

6 people. Really? Out of all of the songs in the world, and you dislike this one?
I cried a minute and a half into the song.....
