  • nasty, horrible horrible pricks.

  • what they are doing is just disgusting! im a vegetarian. and i am against animal cruelty. this is just horrible i cant belive that people can just go up to an animal and just kill it. just horrible.

  • This broke my heart :/ Its absolutely horrible to know this happens in the world! I want to help somehow but I just don't know how I can. However I joined a visual petition a few years ago and it felt so good to be a part of it and made me feel like i could do my part to stop this(:

  • signs saying no photos! I am vegetarian, and against animal cruelty in any form. I don't know if I'd have had the strength to walk away from those japanese fisherman! I wish I could join in in protests like this, but there is nothing over here to do like this...so I must stick to simply spreading the word.

  • This video actually made me cry. The human race as a whole is sickening, the things we do are disgusting! In an interview Dave did state that over 80% of Japanese people are actually against whaling and the killing of dolphins...but to be honest it doesn't matter, even if 80% of the world was against killing these creatures, as long as the people with money wanted to keep doing this, then it would keep happening. It's funny, they obviously know they're doing something wrong, to be holding up

  • Poor Dolphins!! <:(

  • This is why my friend didnt care about the earthquake in Japan

  • this is soooo sad! when i saw hayden cry i started crying myself.

  • this is sooo Sad that people would do this!all the people who went to do this you are amazing!;)

  • You're not alone Hannnah. You've got my support and help here in the states. We'll make sure our message echoes across and reaches the ears of our fellow human beings.

  • I cryer bro why the hell do they want to kill whales and dolphins like Hayden said they are the most friendly animals ever I went to Australia and I swam with the wild ones and they are nice omfgsshh they get me so pissed off when they think it's correct to go kill animals and no it's not damn they r just like us!!!!

  • Tell me something, if these fishermen wern't doing anything wrong, explain why they were lashing out on the people protesting. I don't mind hearing people defending other animals, but when people come here and say that these guy's wern't doing anything wrong, that just aggrivates me. they knew they were doing wrong, and they were pissed cause someone decided to point it out. Plain and simple.

  • I don't understand why the governments of other countries cant stop this??

  • The idea that some animals deserve to be protected more than others is really abhorrent. It is especially so when people try to justify it with some quite arbitrary notion such as "intelligence". What has intelligence got to do with the morality of life and death. Do all animals not experience stress, fear and pain when killed? Westerners really need to stop the expansion of their cruel fast food culture to

  • poor dolphins ;( what kind of person kill the animal.im gonna turn into a mermaid and go to the sea and protect them.who there kill them, ill use my power or ill drown them :(

  • I think that our government and our stupid president need to put every Dolphin on this earth in protection from any people like this

  • This video is not shown as an attack on the Japanese people or their culture, only informing people that this is taking place. No one is blaming any particular individual. I am not a vegetarian and I am completely astonished that this is taking place. I admire Hannah and her friends for their effort to strive and save these dolphins and tortoises. These creatures are children of the sea and should be treated as family, not livestock. Killing should be limited to need, not merely satisfaction

  • Do not disturb the dolphin fishing. This is a crime.

  • I think its not about blaming a whole country or all japanese people for it, it is just about these few japanese who kill the dolphins and those who buy the meat. I think you shouldnt feel attacked .

    WATCH THE COVE

  • Have you seen a movie about how cows and pigs and sheep are killed?

Do you think they feel no fear, no pain and they have no blood?

How many lives have you been taking after you born?

Living itself sometimes be very cruel.

I think only vegetarian can criticize Japanese.

Westerners should learn the fact that sense of value is not only one in this world.

  • I am vegetarian. I dont agree with the killing of sheep and cows and pigs either. However, I believe that dolphins have been proven to show extremely high levels of intelligence and therefore it should be a priority to stop the killing of these creatures.

  • I also love dolphins and of course I have never eaten them. Most Japanese same as me.

What we Japanese angry about is other people who lives in different environment and culture decide what is good and what is bad. It is sometimes become very dangerous.

Some Japanese have small sized pigs as pet.

  • They are saying If you keep them in your room and live together, you will see how smart they are. What is the difference between pigs and dolphin and even human? We all have precious lives. I admire the fact you are a vegetarian. I have to learn from you

  • @hannahfraser Would you apply the same rule to humans? Prioritizing living creatures based on their intelligence is some what unfair don't you think?

  • @masabetty

I wish stupid people would stop comparing live stock such as pigs and cows to dolphins. They're not the same.

  • How dare they do that!!! Stupid Japenese people

  • It is actually a very small percentage of Japanese people who eat Dolphin meat, let alone know about it.. and the best thing we can do is to educate the rest of the Japanese people so they can take action within their own country. There are many Japanese who are outraged that this is happening and dont support it.. Lets support those champions of their own race :)

  • Thank you, I agree, overall the Japanese people are good, but some how we need to inform the masses in Japan, about how savage there fishery is,and how it needs to be stopped.

  • YOU GO GIRL! I've had the rare opportunity to interact with dolphins in the open ocean, and they are the most intelligent, gentle creatures I've ever encountered. Keep up the good fight. Love and peace to you.

  • wow thats really just fucked up but what can u do

  • wana know a secret- most ppl think God put man on this earth. Most ppl think God gave us animals to eat and do with whatever we like and are waiting for god to fix things.. Most ppl arent goin to care about this cuz most ppl are2busy with more important things Most ppl will close thier eyes to this and never give it a second thought EVER...Get rid of religion get rid of industry greed, get rid of economic widespread greed then mayb just mayb .....nahhh not even then. The world is broken.

  • It's always a struggle to change minds. But if you give up then THEY win. It's a slow process, but it's still progress.

  • lets get of ou butts and do something about this

  • ok, meet you in japan in about 2 days?

  • tThank you hannah sooooooo much you really help the cause sooooooooooo much. You really inspire kids to go out and make a difference! thank you!

  • Der gebildete Mensch macht sich die Natur zu seinem Freund (Friedrich Schiller)

  • cuel people.

    german writer once said:

"Der gebildete Mensch macht sich die Natur zu seinem Freund (Friedrich Schiller)"

  • i cant c this anymore. i just cant cuz those selfish people are so smart. not.

  • How could they do something like that to such beautiful and gentle creatures!? They are totally heartless those people....how can they look at themselves in the mirror everyday?

  • more people in america are killed in one year then dolphins in japan! you feel like you want to do something, but your not going to do anything, NO one will do a damn thing about it, know why?? cause people dont give a shit! just like people in america! americans dont care about others, so why do you care sOOOOO much about dolhins? well, maybe you do care about other people, im saying it so that other people can hear what im saying. i just like people saying on thing, and then denying it later

  • You are so wrong in fact when O'Barry the activest that brought us "The Cove" was recently back in Taiji, Japan with European and Japanese journalists in anticipation of the annual dolphin slaughter that usually takes place the first week of September. Below is a published account of what one person can do to make REAL change!

  • "Today is September 1st, the first day of the dolphin slaughter season in Japan. But when I arrived today by bus from Kansai Airport with media representatives from all over the world, the notorious Cove from the movie was empty. There were no dolphin killers in sight."

  • When ever i see dolphins , without them being killed , i cry because of the beauty .

Watching Japanese KILL the beautiful dolphins , make me bawl .

THIS NEEDS TO BE STOPPED IMMEDIATLY

  • Hey, it's not all of the Japanese who are involved in this, just like it's not all of the Canadians who are involved in harper seal hunts.

  • you have no right to tell them what to do! unless you physically do something, like gun them all down, if not, then you need to shut up and mind your own damn business. the japanese people are doing nothing wrong, ever wonder where cow meat come from? in america WE DO THE SAME!!!! we do worse to ourselves! everyone needs to CALM THE FUCK DOWN! stop all this bull shit, save the dolhins, save the dolphins, how about people? whats more important, dolphins or humans? go eat a burger

  • honestly? humans? who cares about humans only reason our world is dying is because of us humans, only what 10% care about the world and all the rest of us dont give a fuck

  • good point about the cows. They however are: 1.Bred for consumption; 2.Not contaminated with mercury poisoning and being fed to children. The dolphins and whales being slaughtered in Taiji and elsewhere are wild and as such are a valuable link in the oceanic ecosystem.Yes there are inhumane acts in processing of beef, pork, chicken but just like these dolphins have activists, so do the cows.Everybody has the choice to buy free range beef or chicken; the people eating dolphin meat have no idea.

  • you know why we care?

because people have voices and can make decisions for themselves. If they can't take care of themselves, tough shit. But dolphins, whales, and any other animal for that matter, can't protect themselves and cannot speak out. We need to be the voices for them.

There is nothing wrong with feeling passionate about a cause and working towards solving an ethical issue, so excuse me hypocrite, but don't tell me what I should be doing. "Shut up and mind your own business"

  • MAN! Why, why? Like god chose all of us...why would HE choose those viloent people to not care about their actions. They will go in the fire themselves..........They will burn.

  • Tops!

That was really well produced; great to see.

I like how the commentary reminded us that traditional whale hunts by real locals was very limited, like traditional mullet catches in Moreton Bay (for example).

Well done for executing a well thought out action and not getting caught up in damaging animosity with angry 'workers', embarrassed if not shamed, to be finally exposed.

Intense experience for the paddlers, full on!

  • animals are as good as dirt to the world. and i hate it so much. everytime i watch this i cry my friggin eyes out

  • Hannah,

I can not imagine the pain that caused you and every one else at the ceremony. I have told all of my friends about the slaughter and we all agree it should stop. The slaughter is a horrible thing in the world that we live in. Even though it is so far away from being ilegal there but we all still can make a difference its our planet it might not be here forever. And meemz4395 the kids that didnt sign your petition dont deserve the a reaction. I will start to make petitions too~ Mel

  • YOU'RE RIGHT! Let's be ideal about this and I will invite you and subscribe to you so just like meemz4395 I will be your friend. We will find ways to be successful and stop...

  • es genial ke hagan este tipo de kampañas i ke original hannah ke te hayas vestido de sirena komo 100pre para ayudar a salvar a los delfines... esto es un llamado para shakira para k ella tambien los salve XD

  • Oh, my god. I am so sorry Mia. You must've had a horrible time! I am really just so sorry. Those damn fisherman. Why? Such friendly animals. It has to stp. Maybe you and me can do something about. LOOK at he websites they ive at the end and we could really share ideas. We should get to kow eachother. I shuld invite you and subscribe and we can do ideal things about these situations. =) VIDAWITHME

  • ANY GUYS UP?

why cant i see the video CJ

  • My God...I had no idea such atrocities occurred in that area. While I do think that the catalyst for the fishermen's ways is monetary, I just couldn't imagine harming something so warm-natured, even for money. But I guess like anything else, callousness eventually sets in for the fishermen.

I also highly respect the group's decision to remain non-violent. That requires so much to do. Dave's comment summed it up I think. "It's hard to walk away".

My prayers be with you and your cause.

  • I'm japanese and I am soo totally agaisnt killing dolphins! Stop killing the dolphins! Stop it! Thats gay!! STOP HURTING THE ANIMALS@!!

  • good good people!!! im a professional bodyboarder from australi and that would have been sick as to do! and i read heeps about what rasta is doing and he is a champ p.s hayden panettiere is now my favourite actress

  • the japanese fishing industry is responsible for 1/3 of the total worlds fishing catch. The world fishing industry is currently taking in over 200% more than what is sustainable. The dolphin population is nowhere near what it once was before the slaughters started. And it is decreasing, evidenced by how the fishermen have to go further afield every year to herd the dolphins into the bay.

  • Those poor animals...I just finished watching this and it makes me cry to see how helpless they are and they cant even do anything to stop, they cry and try to get away while the Japanise sluaghters them. Theyre so playful and adorable...I hope it ends soon

  • those japanese fisherman need to know what it feels like. what have those beautiful animals done to deserve this? anyone can answer that ...... NOTHING absolutly nothing!!!! why dont they find another way to make money instead of slaughtering these animals

  • thats not fare :*(

    those greedy stupid fishmen

only if they knew what it feels like

  • Hanna and Rasta are the most beautiful couple, I admire them both! The world need people with beautiful soul, alerting and helping the Mother Earth and one another!!!

    love from Byron

    Pri Brasil :)

  • OMG, my mom's very close friend's son got AUTISM because of the VERY HIGH MERCURY LEVEL IN HIS BODY!!! Mercury is dangerous for EVERY ONE!!! Not only that, but DOLPHINS ARE INNOCENT ANIMALS!!! STOP THE DOLPHIN KILLING!!

  • Yah i hate what my country is doing, i don't even eat dolphin, i was in a small protest once to stop the fisherman from killing the dolphins. But there was only 11 of us so the fisherman ignored us. so i am sorry for all of this!

  • Thank you so much for writing ... It is great to hear from a japanese person, and we salute you for beig part of a prtest to stop the killing and for being brave enough to stand up to the fishermen! We would love to have a contact from yo in case we return to Japan at any point. best wishes and gratitude, HANNAH and Dave

  • If the japs already discovered the mercury poisoning, why do they still do it? why? and also if they want to do scientific experiment on whales, do they have to spread blood on the ocean floor?

  • Really, really sad! :( Nice video, and my total respect and support goes out to Dave Rastovitch and crew for what they are doing over there!

  • Those fucking greedy fishermen were trying to push the people away with friggin' sticks for goodness sake!!! That is so rude and ignorant to push away something for a good cause just because you want to make some money in an immoral way!!! Why do they feed other people with dolphin if they have mercury!? Shouldn't they know that mercury is poisonous by now!? Thank you to all you open-minded, kind-hearted people getting involved with this :).

  • Good work Hannah, keep it up - inspired/dismayed by the video in equal measures.

  • is this people join in japan again this year?

  • The reason why ppl are supporting the activist and are anti-whaling and dolphin hunting is simply because they are an ENDANGERED SPECIES as are many sea and oceanic creatures due to mans greed. They are on the brink of extinction, simply bcoz some ppl think of them as 'delicacies' and are more focused in filling their bellies and wallets then allowing these creatures to exsist on this planet. STOP WHALING AND HUNTING OF ENDANGERED AQUATIC CREATURES NOW!!

  • It makes me cry just to watch. It is so not fair what is happening to these creatures and our planet for that matter, it's gone past insanity. We have just become so greedy and we'll only realise what we've done once half of our planet is dead. You should eat to live not live to eat and respect that which gives you life!!! much love to hannah fraser and the gang for their efforts if i could be there with you i would be. my prayers are with you and our dolphin and whale family. love and light.

  • how could you kill a dolohin or any animal as a metter of fact?? dont these people have a conscience?!it gets me sick how people can be so fucking ignorant all for a quick buck? lets put it this way? how would they like it if somone came and speared their mom, dad,or any realtives of theirs? wouldn't be so nice would it?! these careless fucks need to think a little bit more about that? got anything to say against me? go for it...i beg you.

  • we don't deserve the planet........the clock is ticking...

Energy and strength to sealife defenders.

    Jupe

  • I can appreciate that dolphins have evolved to an intelligence level where they choose to interact with us rather than eat us. I hold out hope that all humans will also evolve in a like manner.

  • It would be terrible if dolphins became afraid to swim within our view; they are such beautiful creatures.

  • If I'm willing to accept the mercury risk, what is the problem with eating dolphins? I don't discriminate amongst animals based on intelligence.

  • Why aren't you guys starting a 'save the chickens' campaign or 'save the cows' campaign? Is is because cows and chickens aren't as intelligent as dolphins?

  • I focus on dolphins and whales because performing as a mermaid and living near the ocean, these are the animals I am in contact with. I support those other organisations that help other animals as well.

  • What a rediculous comment. Don't you ever have anything positive to say? Did you have any pets as a child to trach you compassion toward animals?

  • Yes, but no pet dolphins unfortunately.

  • The focus of Greenpeace's campaign is now exposing the Japanese

    > people to the facts on whaling - so they can exert political pressure

    > on their leaders, who won't like to be out of step with public opinion

    > for long.

  • While the political ground appears to be shifting, the fact is that

    > the Japanese people do not support whaling. Earlier this month, we

    > commissioned a special independently conducted poll which found that

    > 71 per cent do not support their country whaling in the Southern

    > Ocean Whale Sanctuary. And astonishingly, 87 per cent were surprised

    > to learn that their tax money was actually being used to help pay for

    > the outrageous whaling operation.

  • Indeed, the Japanese accepting the petition was a victory in itself -

    > past international efforts have been totally rejected. The committee's

    > chair, Mr. Tsutsui said, "Our stance is not the same as yours but we

    > are willing to consider the issue seriously." And, in a major

    > concession, they admitted the market for whale meat was not viable

    > and that Japan's international reputation was at stake.

  • This is News Just In From Greenpeace!!!!

    > Fifteen-year-old anti-whaling campaigner Skye Bortoli from Port

    > Stephens presented the 131,965 strong petition to the Japanese

    > authorities in Tokyo. Immediately afterwards, the opposition Japanese

    > Democratic Party (DPJ) called a committee meeting on whaling. That was

    > quick!

  • Is there no more to say on this? Mermaidan disappeared as soon as facts came out.

  • apparently mermaiden dissappeared because he got sick of being insulted.

  • Ha, that's funny. You should have seen the sick personal messages I got from him/her. Anyway, at least you have done some research and frame arguments more logically. It would be good if you could respond to the points raised by Outofcontrol79 yesterday. We have to be very wary of the media, even the Australian media. The citizens of every country naturally presume that THEIR COUNTRY is the one proclaiming the truth, but there is a lot that is doubtful.

  • Throwing shit at Japanese ships conducting legal research is terrorism. Even if the research was a scam the sea shephard is not the police to enforce this. These are facts. Don't talk about respect for sentient beings if you can't respect international law. Two wrongs don't make a right!

  • The fact is that the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society has consistently refrained from dangerous actions at sea. That is why they only throw non-toxic organic materials in a manner as to not directly strike any person.

  • I wouldn't call being responsible for the sinking of 10 ships 'refraining from dangerous actions'.

  • not a single person has been injured as a result of actions by sea shepherd, even when they have sunk ships. Sea Shepherd enforced the commercial ban on whaling by sinking half the Icelandic whaling fleet in harbor, an action for which the Icelandic authorities refused to press charges despite Captain Paul Watson flying to Iceland and demanding that they do so.

  • Hannah, Paul Watson was released by the Iceland authorities because there was no evidence incriminating him. He also told authorities at the time (1988, two years after the incident) that he 'neither took part in the planning nor the execution of the sabotage'. Of course they refused to press charges, usually well there isn't enough evidence to convict someone of a crime the suspect gets released.

  • At the time Paul publicly admitted that Sea Shepherd was responsible for the sinking of the ships. So why didnt they press charges if the suspect had already confessed?? It's because they were using an ILLEGAL whaling vessel.

  • Sea Shepherd was responsible, yes. Paul Watson himself admitted that he had had nothing to do with that particular incident. Why would they press charges on him?

  • He is responsible for the actions of sea shepherd as its president, and he tried to turn himself in. They had every opportunity to arrest him for that action, but they didnt.. not because they didnt have evidence.. but because what they were doing was illegal.

  • How was it illegal? They too were taking advantage of the 'scientific research' loophole and were operating in their own waters.

As for turning himself in, he did indeed do that then denied both taking part and planning the sinking of two vessels. Even if they were whaling illegally, you are essentially saying that its ok to break the law as long as those you are committing the crime against are also breaking the law. That just doesnt make sense.

  • well, we can argue semantics of the law endlessly.. but suffice to say.. no matter whether the law is on the side of the whales or not.. they havent been given a vote on their own slaughter.. and someone has to stand up for the creatures that are unable to speak for themselves.

  • So its ok to act illegally if the ones to benefit from your actions are helpless and unable to defend themselves? OK, got ya!

  • Once again, I believe the sea shepherd people are acting under the statutes of the agreements laid out in the IWC.

As for following the law...It was once illegal for a black person to sit next to a white person on a bus.. does that make it something that should be adhered to when it is clearly wrong and racist? It was legal for school teachers to cane their students.. does that make it right?

  • The Sea Shepherd was dismissed from the IWC in 1986. They do not represent any facet of the IWC and are even openly condemned by them.

I don't realy understand the point you're trying to make when you mention apartheid and corporal punishment. Most people will not accept the a comparison made between the enslavement and murder of human beings with whaling. I'm not saying that its right, but thats just reality.

  • What is it that gives us the right to think it is a sin to hurt another human, but there is nothing wrong with savagely murdering another sentient being such as a whale? I just dont get that viewpoint at all.

  • So as long as the animal is not 'sentient' its ok to kill it? Do you expect everyone to live a vegetarian lifestyle?

  • Have you met any non sentient animals??

Yes, I advocate a vegatarian life style, unless there is no other options for people in remote areas. We have evolved past having to take the life of other species to survive. A vegetarian lifestyle can sustain us healthily without such a major impact on the planet. Of course it is a sacrifice for those that eat meat, but the question for our planet now is.. do we sacrifice some things..? Or ruin the planet and die along with it.

  • Sentience in itself is a very grey area in terms of where it starts. Is a slug a sentient being? How about bacteria, is that sentient? I think its fine that you have chosen to be a vegetarian. Its not fine, however, that you feel the need to force this lifestyle on others. I'm sure cattle farmers would be really impressed with your desire to eradicate the consumption of meat. How are we destroying the world by eating farmed meat?

  • I am not saying that Sea Shepherd is endorsed by, or are the representatives of the IWC. But they are trying to get the countries that have signed into the IWC to uphold their agreements as per the dictates of the IWC convention against commercial whaling... which.. whatever facade Japan chooses to 'call' it.. such as 'scientific research' is actually killing whales and selling the meat for profit.

  • I thought most of the whale meat that Japan catches is left untouched because apparently only 1% of the population eats whale. How can they be making a profit from that?

  • Exactly!! The whole thing is ludicrious! THey are trying to keep an industry going that is obviously outdated and unpopular with its own people. The whaling industry is in debt to the government millions of dollars, and yet they plan to build more whaling ships, and want to kill more whales despite the appetite for it waning in Japan.

  • So don't you think it would be more effective to raise awareness in Japan through advertising etc rather than using violence, as in the Sea Shepherd's case?

  • Sea Shepherd and many other organisations have been doing awareness raising campaigns for years and years around the world, and in Japan. Awareness raising is only effective to a certain degree, and direct action brings awareness and challenges people to actually find out the facts.

  • This is ridiculous. Fact: Japan is allowed to whale for scientific purposes. Fact: Japan reports the results of its research to IWC and anyone can find it. Fact: Most ignorant aussies say the science is a scam based on one-sided aussie TV and have never looked at the research themselves. Sea Shephard will be punished by the IWC for its actions because they are illegal. Its nothing more than a baby tantrum cos conservationists don't get their own way.

  • I have looked at the research myself, and it is a pathetic and thin facade for the commercial whaling they are carrying out. After years of 'research' they have pretty much released research papers that boil down to facts such as ' whales eat fish'. surprise surprise!! that was worth the death of thousands every year!!!

  • Yes, and who allows them to carry on with this research? The IWC.

  • Please tell us the exact research you looked at and where you found it? I expect you looked at primary sources, not just someone writing about Japanese whale research??

  • I looked at the research papers presented to the IWC in Alaska last year.I suppose you could find them on the japanese whaling website.

  • Well the only awareness they have raised in Japan is that they are an organisation willing to commit acts of piracy. A really good way to get support...

Can you give me examples of the Sea Shepherd's awareness raising campaigns in Japan because I have been living in Japan for 'years and years' and can't recall ever noticing anything that resembled an anti-whaling campaign.

  • Also, if the Sea Shepherd wants the Japanese people to be aware of their 'cause' why don't they have a Japanese web page? Their efforts seem very half arsed and their only intention seems to be committing acts of violence. How can anyone support that?

  • Defy ' acts of violence'. If you are referring to throwing rancid butter on the decks of ships away from any people.. I dont consider that violence, as violence denotes injury to another person. However, shooting at Paul Watson is surely an act of violence on behalf of the Japanese whalers.

  • that was meant to be 'define' not 'defy' .

  • Even if he was shot, which I highly doubt until shown evidence to prove otherwise, (and yes I have seen the video and its inconclusive,e.g why wasn't he on his back gasping for air?)the whalers were simply detering a pirate vessel. They are well within in their legal right to defend themselves and can even apprehend the offending vessel and crew. The Sea Shepherd should be rounded up by the Australian coast guard and detained.

  • He was not on the ground gasping for air.. as you would have seen onthe video.. he was wearing a kevlar vest and the bullet embedded in that, and also dented the badge he was wearing beneath it.

I cant believe you think that someone trying to protect endangered species with non-violent means deserves to be shot. You really are OUT OF CONTROL!

  • Japanese Coast Guard is not permitted to fire any weapon outside of Japanese waters. How can you excuse the Sea Shepherds blatant disregard for international law, condone terrorism and overlook the fact that the Japanese whalers ARE NOT whaling illegally?

  • Also, wearing a vest stops the bullet from going through you. He still would have been knocked back by the force of the bullet's impact. The bullet also would have been hot to touch.

  • yes, obviously the kevlar vest stops the bullet from going through you.. or else he would be injured or dead!

  • Did you read the rest of my post? People have died from being shot in the chest while wearing a vest due to the impact of the bullet. Do you understand this?

  • Yes.. lucky the badge he was wearing under the vest also prevented the bullet from penetrating the skin. Just goes to show you how dangerous it was that they tried to shoot him!

  • Can't you see how ridiculous this is? Medal stopping bullet = armour piercing bullets. The chances of the JCQ having armour piercing bullets is ZERO. Not even American Coast Guards who deal with drug runners have armour piercing bullets.

  • This is bullshit! You are just seeing what you want to see. If you are objective its pretty clear that the evidence suggesting he was shot isn't stronger than evidence suggesting he wasn't shot. Why don't you respond properly to the points by OUTOFCONTROL? You can't because you are just pushing your agenda now.

  • SO why was a Japanese coast guard firing a weapon AT a PERSON outside Japanese waters if they are not allowed to. THis is the height of illegality! I look forward to the day that the 'Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary' as it is INTERNATIONALLY RECOGNISED will in fact be a whale sanctuary. At present it is simply a joke to call this a whale sanctuary as Japan slaughters over a thousand whales a year within it's boundaries.

  • Thats the point, they didn't fire at him. The story is BS.

Japan slaughters whales within the 'sanctuary' because it is allowed to. End of story. Your argument is with the IWC, not Japan. They are only following rules set out by the IWC.

  • What evidence do you have that the japanese didnt fire at Paul? THere is video footage of it for god sakes.. ANd the Japanese were already caught out lying twice about how many men with rifles were on board and then about them firing them. They are now eating their words!

  • At this point its their word against his. Until he submits his vest for forensic analysis nothing can be confirmed. But he won't do that because being in possession of a bullet proof vest is illegal under Australian law.

  • well, I think it is a bit more obvious who is in the wrong once you watch the video footage. it is not just his word against theirs.. It is video evidence against known liars.

  • Its also very convenient that the 'bullet' hit the anti whaling medal he was wearing around his neck. That means the medal actually stopped the bullet. So the Japanese are using armour piercing bullets now? I find that hard to believe. Why don't you just accept the fact that he very well have put the bullet in the vest himself before starting the journey of lunacy. A bit of insurance so to speak, in case things get out of hand.

  • What do you mean "known liars"? Who proved whom to be a liar? Sounds like an accusation to me. Get ya head on straight!!

  • The Japanese claimed they only had two guards with sound guns when the story first broke.. And when sea shepherd released photos of 4 guards with guns, they had to admit they were wrong. Then They said it was just sound guns, and they were proven to have fired flash guns (much more dangerous apparently than sound guns). SO you see, they are lying to cover their dangerous actions.

  • The Japanese claimed this according to whom? Do you still have the source?

  • Who cares? This is irrelevant. They are dealing with pirates, they are well within their right to arm themselves.

  • Also, you've mentioned before that the Sea Shepherd only threw Butyric acid (rancid butter)at the whalers, imply that its harmless. Lets look at some of the health effects associated with coming in contact with Butyric acid; if its inhaled, a sore throat, cough, burning sensation, shortness of breath, laboured breathing, symptoms don't always take effect immediately. If it touches your skin; pain, redness, skin burns. If you get it in your eyes; pain, redness, severe deep burns, loss of vision.

  • continued...sounds pretty harmless to me.

  • man ppl in japan should stop killin dolphins!

if i were there i would cry like heck

  • So, you don't have sources for that information you mentioned??

  • Good point! If it really was Australian territory legally this would be a crime punishable against Australian law!!

  • The Japanese whaling fleet is presently hunting endangered whales in the Australian Antarctic Territory despite an Australian Federal Court order specifically prohibiting the killing of whales in these specific waters. SOunds illegal to me!

  • The land claims on Antartica are not internationally recognised. It is not officially Australian territory, merely a claim. Therefore, Australian Federal court orders mean diddly squat.

  • That's because only Australia recognises it. For the tenth time, this claim is NOT backed up by international way. Hence, the inability of Australian courts to do anything about the matter. Have you looked up the history of Australias claim to the area and which countries recognise it? Obviously not. You just assume what you hear through Aus media is true cos it supports your opinion.

  • Its amazing how people only hear what they want to hear. I honestly don't know why people bother listening to the Australian media on this or any issue.

  • At what point do we question 'THE LAW' and ask.. Is this actually to the benefit of our species and our planet? Or do we just blindly follow like sheep??

  • So you condone breaking the law if you believe it is wrong or unjust?

  • The fact is that the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society has consistently refrained from dangerous actions at sea. That is why they only throw non-toxic organic materials in a manner as to not directly strike any person.

  • By contrast the Japanese Coast Guard threw flash grenades directly at Sea Shepherd crewmembers injuring two and firing shots, one of which struck captain Paul Watson in his bulletproof vest. The Japanese described the rotten butter as "life threatening" and described the flash grenades as "harmless". They did not mention if they considered the bullet lethal or not.

-Captain Paul Watson - Sea shepherd-

  • Sea Shepherd crewmembers did not injure anyone nor did we damage any property. Care was taken to ensure that the rotten butter was thrown onto areas away from crewmembers to avoid any possible harm to any of the whalers.

-Captain Paul Watson - Sea Shepherd-

  • Sea Shepherd also sent two crewmembers onboard the Yushin Maru No. 2 on January 15 with a letter to inform the captain that an Australian Federal Court order had been issued that same day specifically prohibiting the killing of whales in the Australian Antarctic Territory.

  • This year sea shepherd have prevented the Japanese from taking half of their quota of endangered whales in a whale sanctuary in violation of a global moratorium on commercial whaling. We did this by just showing up and tossing some rotten butter stink bombs onto the decks of their ships. -Captain Paul Watson-sea shepherd
