Maxon is one of the best out there, if you're looking for pro level equipment with full transparency and no ugly tone coloration, then Maxon is best for you. I own both the AD999 and the OD820, this is a great analog delay, and you can actually put the repeat knob past 12 o'clock without getting into oscillation territory
I own this and a carbon copy, so as to be able to delay multiple keyboards at once. This pedal is perfect for what it is, a darker sounding, feedback capable, .9+sec delay range. The Carbon copy is less dark, though not quite as bright as Id like it, considering i already have this. obviously the copy only does .6 sec; if you need longer that that, go digital/looper. analog is for esoteric characteristic, alteast with delay. I got lucky with price, $280 this, $70 carbon copy used.
Hi Pro Guitar, can you use this pedal for modern/contemporary hard rock and metal sound or is this pedal aimed more towards the blues/classic rock arena?
I played this pedal through an all tube rig with a high end paul reed smith guitar.. Was very disappointed, not a tone that i could fall in love with ,and the color made me want to barf.. I bought the mxr carbon copy and couldn't be happier.. Smaller, better sounding and easier on the eyes.. The mxr gives me that "over the top" sound when soloing.. I can't say enough good about the mxr.. Not true with this pedal.. So richedie, i would say buy the mxr and you will be very happy you did..
@richedie Get the Malekko 616. It does the Carbon Copy and has more with the mod controls on the top and buffered mode for a slightly hotter output than normal mode.
i have this. its amazing and extremely versatile as the demo shows. VERY haunting godspeedYou! type tones. fully recommend it, unless you need tap-tempo accuracy.
Not swampy, its reproducing the faster notes ok instead of the swampy tripping over itself that the old MXR had. Swampy is what I want, this is like Digital delay but with a warmer sound.
Its a chip made up of multiple capacitors. Think of electricity as a stream.. to get through the chip, it has to fill up a number of capacitors (buckets) before exiting the chip. this takes some time, resulting in delay.
completly depends on you, you'd might want longer delays than 550 mS, or you'd like to have it to also work as a pre-amp.. or you want to have modulation..
I just noticed you guys use Fulltone Gold Standards for all your demos. Are they really that good of cables? I hear very good things about those cables, I'm thinking of switching out all my cables for them. My buddy uses a AD999 for all his delay needs in his studio sessions, I was surprised to find that out because he's a very famousguitar player. I messed around with one this thing sounds absolutely beautiful, so warm, vintage and clear. I love this more than the Boss DM-2.
According to this guitar magazine I read bad cables will sound bad if you don't have a good buffer in your pedal board and just a bunch of true bypass pedals. I would go with Fulltone.
So - you get 300ms more than the MXR Carbon Copy, a line-out jack and you can't even turn off or adjust the flutter - and the cost is more than double?
I came on this pedal by accident, and now i'm completely disinterested in Boss for delay (aside fromt the DD-2 for weirder stuff). Now i'm stuck between the AD-999, MXR Carbon Copy, and T-Rex Replica! Any help from viewers? I want creamy David Gilmour delays, more "shreddy" Petrucci sounds, and nice, sweet echos like The Edge.
BTW, keep these reviews coming! they're top notch!
I know how you feel! You have to try out the EH Deluxe Memory Man as well, great for Gilmour & EDGE tones. I think it might work even better? The AD999 and 900 are both stellar pedals BTW.
I have all of these pedals, I recommend T.Rex replica or the fantastic T.Rex Reptile...the MXR is a drak sounding pedal in my opinion...and the memory man can be a problem when using in the fx loop, cause of it's limited Headroom....
Andrew, you have the Memory Man, AD999, 900 and the MXR? So what order would you place them in, from top to bottom?? I've tried all the Maxon or Ibanez delays, the Deluxe MM2 and a few others and as price wise I'd say get the DanEcho, the AD999 and 900 were comparable to the MM2, just a mater of pref IMO. Don't know about the TREX or Moog, too much money, got po__ before I could try them.

My Carbon Copy isolation is great. The ad999 is too expensive for what it is.

My experience is that the MXRs as of late aren't that reliable, especially when stacked up against Maxons.

What's the cheapest analogue delay pedal? I only want one for the oscillation 0.33
maxrutc09 2 years ago
probably an old arion or DOD delay, used carbon copy, or memory boy. Check out the Ibanez De7 though, the analog sims are tight.

Good point - why is it double a carbon copy? Can't just be for 300ms......... I leaning towards the MXR.
ram16821 3 years ago
this one is true bypass, it doesn't suck your tone like the MXR. It is warmer and more like a tape delay. And it has a dry output...
