Most people who want to quit smoking are aware of what they are doing but cannot resist the temptation. You cannot compare a psychological habit, for instance swearing to a physical addiction and chemical Withdrawal, e.g- nicotine. Motivation is one of the most important aspects when you want to quit smoking because it aids to resist. Self-awareness is not enough because most people are not strong minded.
so true! ur video is also explain reason why people are obese( i think). i was "lack of awareness"(yo Elliot :) about foods until last couple years when i had to cut weights for wrestling. i started eat healthy, researched so many stuff about nutrition, and your video.i eat small meals through out the day, dont eat junk food, dont drink pop...and I dont love ice cream, chocolates anymore like when i was a kid. My friend always tell me hey the wrestling season is over,u dont have to cut weight.
Yo Elliot, you wouldn't happen to be a fan of / familiar with Tony Robbins would you? Just wondering....he used the arm thing in a speech he gave one time.
same thing with elliot with his "shut up", i have my hand on "autopilot" when kids did or say something wrong within the space where my hand could reach. man this is hard, and this autopilot thing is hard. i just smacked a kid today and i feel bad afterthat, i dont even know what happen, my hand just automatically jstu smacked that kid's head, feelbad.jpg
It's hard to quit smoking when im around all my friends and their smoking just the smell of a cigarrete makes my mouth start watering its just so hard that is ridiculus =S
@FOOTBALLGOD1991 What are you talking about weed is a drug, im glad im off it im more focused now feeling healther. i was smoking everyday +fags rizals and lighters was a waste of money big time wish i never started. do you smoke weed then?
@Roof yeah i do but i just don't prioritize it. While I agree it is a drug, I believe it is the best one and most healthy one that you can do. but i agree with ya it is expensive though but it's all worth it
@FOOTBALLGOD1991i had my fun with it and im glad im stoped. I know guy that went mad on it had to go in to a mental institution because hes was runing arould with a machete trying kill people because he thought the goverment n everyone worshiped the devil. has different effects ondifferent poeple. my mum been smoking weed all her life and shes a genius but she only smokes thai weed and hash somtimes. if your smoking highgrade/skunk its got alot more thc in it and thats what can damage your mind.
@Roof that guy was messed up obviously before weed. weed won't make you run around with a machete lol. While i agree that weed has some long term effects, so does drinking coffee, alcohol, eating cake, going sky diving. relatively in terms of comparison with other drugs, weeds long term effects are not that bad. drug use is all about balance and discipline. i know i can handle drugs and be able to control my life
The spirit is definately stronger than the body; which is why the words "I can't" are usually lies, when people are working out. I don't really have to tell you this, but what you were talking about near the end was absolute truth. The difference in human and animal behaviour; is that they can only react to a stimulus, whereas we can respond. Thus, we have the ability to evaluate our actions before we do them, but our lifestyles cause us to fall into routines, so we can; but tend not to.
I don't smoke, but a good method ( i heard) was to put a bag of seeds where you keep your ciggerettes. when you go for a ciggerate, you put your hand in a bag of seed and eat them instead :)
saying shut up to your daughter does not make you feel good. smoking after boning your girl does. theres a difference. physiologically and psychologically.
Thanks very much for the response! I'll definitely take it all into consideration and should help to achieve a better life. Even if you cant say my stupid YouTube name I made when I was about 14! Keep it up, Dyl.
@shylildude WOW! I am so happy that I meet your approval... I would NEVER want someone who calls themselves "shylildude" to think that I'M a douchebag!!
Thank you for being normal, using your brain and showing us that you use it.Recently I was somehow depressive.I've just got into the highscool,a different one where the teachers are more distant and cold than I was used to,most of my class mates are rich douchebags that think because their parents are important they deserve everything. They are addicted to alcohol, nicotine, drugs, sex, hardcore gamers, etc. Somehow I managed to survive thanks to you and other fitness gurus and health books authors
YO ELLIOT im 6'3 and weigh about 80-81kg. I've been going the gym now for about a year, when i started i was about 70kg. I've put on a-lot of muscle over the year but being as tall as i am i find filling out very hard. Especially in the legs and arms. can you give any advice for packing on mass in these area's ??
@OiAbA Pardon my rudeness; but do exercises to target the specific areas. There are no secrets. Keep doing what you are doing. It takes time, time, time, time.
Great advice! I quit using smokeless tobacco the same exact way. Every time I found myself craving a dip I would replace the tobaccow with either sunflower seeds or gum. I used the same response but I changed the habit to something harmless.
Quiting smoking is all mental, physiological reasons are outweighed by mental reasons. Use an alternative........forget about the gum, patches or other alternatives because after a while it will wear off. Choose a placebo or something that you should use when you feel the need to smoke. Do what I did, hit the GYM!! Gym is a way better stress relief or whatever negative feeling compared to that 4 minute sucking on a lung cancer stick :)
Completly agree with Elliot on the physiological addiction being not that bad, the hard part of quitting smoking is the mental addiction. You get used to having a cigarette when you hear a great song when your driving, after you eat a meal, after sex, hell, even after you take a shit. That's the hard part. As someone who used to smoke 2 packs a day, here are some tips that I think are imperative to quitting. To be continued...
1: KEEP TRYING! It's true it takes most people like 8 times or so to quit, it tooke me more than that. Eventually, 1 time it will stick.
2: Try to make it a certain amount of days. I heard it takes 3 days before the physical addiction of nicotine is gone, like I said, the physical addiction isn't the problem, but I tried to go just 3 days without smoking. After I hit that, I tried to go for 1 week, then 2 weeks, then a month, then 2 months, ect. The longer you go, the...
easier it gets, plus you don't want to have a cigarette because you've already gone X amount of days without one, and don't want to start over.
3: MOST IMPORTANT-- Don't drink for at least 2-3 months. For some people, not drinking for this long is damn near impossible. If that's the case, then you have another problem besides smoking that needs to be addressed. If you drink during the early stages of quitting, you will smoke. Why make it harder on yourself?
Last thing I want to say. Everyone I know who has quit has done it the same way, COLD TURKEY. All the pills, gums, patches, Chantix, ect do not work. The reason IMO is that these tools PROLONG the process of stopping the mental addiction. It makes it easier to quit for a time, but you have these helping you. You need to do it the hard way, or else you're just prolonging the tough part instead of just getting it over with, which is what you need to do. I'm currently ...
working in a pharmacy, and I can't tell you how many people take Chantix (a drug for quitting smoking) for a few months, stop it, then come back in with a new rx for it because it worked for a couple months, then without it then went right back to smoking. Of course they did, they never actually had to mentally quit the cigarette, so they set themselves up for failure. Sorry for leaving so many comments on your vid, Elliot.
