There's something so weak about this. All the vocals are too clean and the acting so lame. I don't think they could have picked a worse cast for this movie.
all in all, the original is faaaar better. Ted Neely is soooo much better than Glen Carter and Carl Anderson destroys the judas in this. However this is the one number that I would say is faaaar better. Tony Vincent is fucking awesome, he was muuuuch better as judas though.
@ruddymuggles14 This is the only number in the 2000 version that I can say is comparably good to the 1973 version. It's certainly more bad-ass though I still prefer the cool hippie dance number. I kinda think this should have been made by the guy who made mulan rouge (it'd be the only movie of his I could stand).
ok i love this version and all and i have seen the old version also, and what i want to know is....since when was there guns and good clothing in the olden days?? lol Loving it though, just makes me laugh at this revived version, compared to the old one. :)
i feel like i should be disappointed with how incredibly unsubtle and mildly terrible this production is, but... i sort of love it??
like, simon is a backstreet boy!jewish freedom fighter and everyone is shamelessly eye-sexing each other and everything is spikes and berets and nothing hurts
wow... he TRIES WAY TOOO HARD! I LIKE THE MOVIE GUY! WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY BETTER SINGER! ;)
I gotta say, I am a huge fan of the 73 film.......But I love these different interpretations of a classic.......All very cool..........You can't compare them all......Each stand on their own interpretation.........
i guess they have to change with the times to keep people interested, seeing the disco version of the original probably wouldnt go with today's youth.
I find the Millenium version to fit another genetration, it reaches a group who may NEVER be exposed to Jesus in any other way, ripples in a pond...whatver medium to reach the lost. Bravo! I go back to the original BTW, they all reach a certain different group...
Quiero decir que esta produccion es una reverenda chingadera, como actores y cantantes horribles!! nada que ver con la producción de 1973 no le llegan ni a los talones a Ted Neeley, Yvonne Elliman o Carl Anderson. Esta producción sucks!!
I love this Simon's style I think that is a little better than the other version well in this part of the movie, do you know where can I get this complete movie?
this is uncomparaibly horrible... the origional movie is freaking awesmoe. it wasnt about the fame of acting... its was about the sheer emotion u feel when watching a good movie. the jesus from the old version is sexy!
@qzpmystik Judas, Jesus, Herod...they're horrible. Ted is the Ultimate (emotional) Jesus. Carl Anderson is the best Judas. Tony Vincent is the Best Simon! Enough said. Vocally, I'm stuck between Steve Balsamo and Jon Farnham for the vocals for Jesus...
@MachineAmbition I think the cinematographer was trying to show how disgusted Judas was getting with everything that was happening with Jesus, the Disciples, and just the situation in general. He starting to realize that Jesus isn't this grand holy man that everyone is making him out to be and that all these grand plans Jesus has are going south. Even at the beginning of the scene, you notice Jesus trying to quell the anger growing in everyone, but is unable to do so and it all goes to hell.
@MachineAmbition The acting in this version from Judas at least is superb. Jesus Christ Superstar tells the passion from the perspective of one of the most important players Judas.
We all know he betrayed Jesus but we don't know why he did so. That is what JCS is trying to explore. So we have to keep cutting to Judas during this because what happens here pushes him further along the road to betraying Jesus. That is good story telling. We are supposed to be seeing things through Judas eyes.
What I liked so much about the 1973 musical is that, even if they were hippies, the story was consistent to what I read on the Bible. NO WAY Jesus would watch a riot like that and frown and puff. Simon would be in TROUBLE if he started something like that. Didn't he put the ear back on the soldier when he was being arrested? If Jesus had ever lost control like that, he would never hear the end of it from Judas - in this musical, of course.
Tony Vincent is amazing!!! I heard him singing the Superstar number and it is the best I have ever heard. Kris Phillips is the best Jesus I have ver heard!!
I saw Tony on Bway, and he was the understudy for Jesus. I really would have like to have seen him in that role.
