  • anyone else realize he was giving us all the finger >:|

  • Looks nice. But I don't get why the video is still running the background when I am not viewing it. Its killing battery life while doing that!!

  • @rabznath , as per the reports confirmed by RIM that running a video in the background is left to the user's discretion by some configuration options available on the PB and one can enable or disable the option depending on ones need. They are some valid use cases where you want to quickly check on something like email, facebook etc while watching a movie and without interrupting it .

  • @SuperSF49er Yeah I saw that in another video that you have the choice to turn that running video option off. Thanks. It sure looks like an amazing device. I hope RIM does well with it. Its always to have good competition.

  • Well, that's just a pure copy of webOS... the worst will be that people will think webOS copies Blackberry when the PalmPad (or so...) HP tablet will be launched... :(

  • @Buckethelm , indeed Palm copied task switcher from current Blackberry OS and added touch gestures(pull up and card swipe), apart from touch gestures how is this different from BB task switcher?

  • Looks promising. Also looks a lot like WebOS.

  • did u notice that guy was giving us the middle finger

  • Am i the only one who noticed the guy in the left chair at the end had an iPad!?

  • @greenscreeningthings This wasn't a _BlackBerry_ event. It was a tablet event. Speakers from Deloitte, University of Toronto (using tablets to deal with autism), and business.

Rogers also gave away a Samsung Galaxy Tab and a Dell Streak.

  • @BluechipJ oh that explains a lot LOL

  • lol the guy in the red seat is using an ipad @ a blackberry event.. You need an apple to keep the show running.

  • @csbkoool , this is not a blackberry event but a tablife event where all the tablet manufactures participated including apple, samsung etc.

  • @csbkoool is not a blackberry event dont be ignorant and read the title is a Rogers event

  • @oliverbeing I didn't know rogers is a mobile network...I checked online my apologies.......

  • coming to the multi-touch and gestures, Multi-touch technology and research began in 1982, at the University of Toronto by an Indian origin student forgot his name though, Jeff Han demonstrated multi-touch in 2005-06 even before Apple made anything on multi-touch, although Apple is first company to use multi-touch on a mobile device but they didn't invent it. similarly WeOS gestures are pre-dated to 2005, check out Han's demo from 2006 watch?v=QKh1Rv0PlOQ

  • Lets all just agree to call the kettle black. Blackberry is a great platform that is evolving into what we see here. However, to say that it doesn't look A LOT like WebOS is just denial. It's not the multitasking that is a problem, it's that it has the same look and feel of Web OS. RIM has not even added their own features here, there is just no originality in this. I hope RIM does well because competition in any form is good for the industry. Lets just be honest here.

  • Sweet, I want one with 4G!!! & Wi-fi.

  • And if you enjoy comparing gestures, assuming that they make the OS...

I suppose the BB-OS, Windows-OS, iOS and many others are all the exactly same too because they pinch-to-zoom?

also in my opinion, give RIM some credit. this is really the first time the are stepping out of their comfort zone with some pretty good results.

  • wow. you guys who are saying this is webos are full of shit.

unless you've played a role in making webOS AND QNX-BBOS, all your stabs are pure conjecture with little or no basis other than your poor knowledge of what you think you know. two totally different architectures built from the ground up. I'm sure you have no idea what the direction of the BB-OS is and posting you're assumptions on here is idiotic and frankly hilarious.

love the short-sighted idiotic point of views by ignorant people.

  • @steevesaj1 You talk like you work for RIM. Do you? Cause I doubt it. Yeah people are being short-sighted but I am sure you can see yourself that the swiping gesture and multi-tasking is a rip off of webOS. I am not saying that this is webOS but that part is definitely very similar. Though, I may be wrong... You may not see it cause you're too busy sucking RIM's penis to see the video.

  • @Thetis101 he may not see it because who the f*ck cares if it uses cards or not... then we all are gonna argue about using icons or windows... who cares?... if Palm invented and then patented the CARDS "unique and not ever used before" system then I don't care.. I just care that this damn device will fulfill my needs.. Needs that iPad2 will just dream to fulfill...

  • @Thetis101 Indeed I don't work for RIM, thought I do know a couple who do. Now you began to sound like well versed but its clear that you are more of an nincompoop (sorry, just saw Elf).

I assume you don't have a BB or you'd know that multitasking is and has been a tenant of the BB-OS for a long time, much longer than webOS has been around. Would YOU then assume webOS stole it from Windows?

Same goes for swiping - its been around for longer than the webOS. Hell, before webOS came out, the

  • @Thetis101 gesture was used in environments for closing programs or moving applications for a long while. Hell dude, re-watch minority report or quit associating techniques used over the past couple years as the originals.

RIM is a company. It has been respectful of its users, despite its somewhat slow innovation which is more than what can be said for many other companies. You're insults are as well placed as the forces in Iraq. Ill-thought out and sure as hell aren't welcome by the majority.

  • @steevesaj1 Awh, I'm getting attacked by the greedy US. Thank you . :)

  • @Thetis101 Anytime haha it is the season to give!

  • webOS is dead the day HP bought Palm, my assumption going forward you will see webOs in printers if not cellphones or tablets, BeOS which is foundation for webOS and QNX on which Blackberry tablet OS is based are the contemporaries of the by-gone era, both are good but QNX is unique being a RTOS and also very light weight and reliable than any-other OS in the world. Otherthan application switching, BB OS and WebOS are architectural very different.

  • Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to get to "card view", swip one of the running applications up off the screen from card view to close the application. THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT WEBOS ALREADY DOES!!! Want an early preview of what Blackberrys hope to some day be? Then get a Palm Pre. Even after watching this it is clear that the WebOS tablet is going to blow this out of the water, and we don't even have specs for it yet.

  • @killab6420 Buy the Nervictophine, is a powerfull traquilizer that will help you with that stress RIM caused you when they "copied" the webOS unique patent that nobody can use... Take it easy, rest all this weekend we don't want you to get angry again. Think in your family.. is not worth to diss on Blackberry, do you work for Palm?.. are you the CEO?.. why don't let Palm to decide wether to sue Blackberry or not... I'll tell you why!... cause Palm doesnt have a f* patent regarding a "card Style"

  • I love how the presenter is using his middle finger to select screen elements...

  • True copy of webOS! Sad Blackberry

  • @Ayoras1978 so true... they copy the "icon" concept from Apple iOS, no body but apple created the icons before, then they copy the "card" concept from WebOS, no body but Palm have used before the card style simulating windows, no one, not even windows, and they clearly copied the concept of having a f*ckin status bar at the top of the screen. No body but androids do that.. They also copied Peter Brody invention called LCD Screen. They copied Apple's invention of the touchscreen.

  • @morpho4444 when everyone see the concept of the UI. Remember webOS. It's perfect, RIM it's making a great product. But it's clear, webOS inspiration

  • @Ayoras1978 I totally agree.. but they are just cards, is like windows and mac, they both have windows, even graphic versions of Linux. who copied who and who the f.. cares if they did... As long as is a better aproach

  • @morpho4444 I totally agree too. Best for us, the consumers

  • @morpho4444 whoa whoa whoa. Apple invented touch screen? I remember playing the touch screen arcade tv when i was a kid and it did not have an apple on it.

sorry. not trying to be a jerk. i don't think you meant that apple actually invented touch screen, but i just don't want misconstrued facts out there. Apple was founded in 1976. The first touch screen was invented in 1971.

Again, not trying to start a war. Just saying the facts.

  • @rhino111191 oops! scratch that! touch screen was invented in 1974. I confused it with a touch sensor. my bad! haha!

  • @rhino111191 LOL rhino, I was being sarcastic... off course Apple did not invented touchscreens, but as soon as BB decides to implement a technology, there is always an iFan that claims BB is copying this or that... That's why I meant to be sarcastic with the "copying webOS" thing.

  • @morpho4444 oooooooooooooooooooooooooh! ha! okay. well now that all makes sense. my bad! haha!

  • Holly snappy tablets Batman!...

It is done!... the iPad has nothing to do here... there's nothing else to watch... give me my playbook!

  • Palm, Palm, where art thou?

  • that was legit, i really think this is going to be an amazing device. im not an apple hater or anything but the multitasking alone makes this a better device than the ipad. ipad 2 however, we will see.... but for this playbook i love it so far. release it!

  • Very nice work. Should raise the benchmarks for the iPad

  • awesome!! what can I say mutli-tasking and the UI is snappy, RIM folks gone crazy these days otherwise who else can make multi-tasking look so fluid and running on a single core

  • bet the guy with the ipad wishes he could trade

  • Amazing!
