@louvregroove it is true that we wouldnt be what we are today if lincoln didnt make the decision he did, but its the fact that his decision violated the states constitutional right to secede, what they did was perfectly legal and outlined in the constitution so lincoln shouldve respected their decision
@louvregroove i do understand your point about not supporting a racist government, i support the confederacy because my ancestors gave their lives for it not to preserve slavery but to fight the injustices the tyranical lincoln administration commited, it is a part of my heritage i will not ignore, i will support it proudly because to not support it would be disrespectful to my ancestors, my family and my state of VA
@juiced24valve....In my opinion, the choices made by Lincoln made us what we are today The United States of America...one nation, rather than a set of separate countries like Europe or Asia. Remember that both Northern and Southern states/colonies joined to free themselves from the tyranny of The British Empire in the Revolutionary War. We would not be the one powerful, great nation today were it not for the difficult decisions Lincoln made to fight a Civil War to preserve the Union.
@louvregroove i dont appreciate how u say you in no way support the confederacy and directly after that all racist comments will be removed? You seem to be the racist, racist against southerners if you dont like us Thats fine, your great great grandfather was a union soldier so we wouldnt want you to like us anyway, but dont imply that we are racists, learn the true history and actually appreciate it or dont talk about it at all
@juiced24valve I was born in the south, Louisiana. The Confederacy was not a "race", but a system of government that justified enslaving & expoliting human beings for economic gain. The north/Federal gov. also exploited human beings in various ways. I do not consider myself pro-north or anti-south in any way. I am against any form of government that does not respect the rights & the dignity of any human being, whether the are from the south, north, east, west, or of any race.
In the southern armies, did the confederate musicians also fight with guns during battle? I was curious for a lot of northern musicians would march to the rear once fighting started.
@louregroove the orginal 5 are members of the 2nd SC Volunteer Infantry, a unit of Civil War reenactors, dosen't say where they are from but i'm pretty sure they are from the South not New England
I enjoy hearing them at every gettysburg event. This from a true re-enactor of the Sharpsburg Army Hospital! Havent missed a gettysburg in a good many years, it seems nice here, but nothing beats to late at night sitting in camp with all the spectators gone and hearing the band play from far away. Cant keep the smile off my face.
I'm a fourteen year old girl, and I have a good 75% of SSCSB's songs on y iPod. I hope they're at the 150th Gettysburg, I would love the chance to see them. Me and my father (we're both Civil War Reenactors) are big fans of this band!
Great tune! Their is a historic home in Tucaloosa,Alabama that the Yankees threatned to burn down the house if the wife of the home did not feed them....They burned down 3/4th of the University of Alabama at the time...God bless the Confederacy!
They are great! I hope soon to come to Gettysburg to listen to the songs of 2nd South Carolina String Band.Greetings from Venice - (Veneto) Italy Ciao!! Paolo
This song has really touched me; on the one hand, it gives real insight into the Confederate soldier's heart, how he fought with his family on his mind and how he was bravely defending his home. But on the other, "I'll kill that Yankee soldier" makes me sick to think of brother Americans hurting one another. We should honor their sacrifices and all those lost then by doing our best to be united now.
Thank you for such an excellent and moving piece of music!!!
I am thankful that people have pasted this music down for us to enjoy. What will our ancestors think when they listen to music that is "popular" today. people need to come back to their roots and create real music like this!
I love the 2nd SC! This coming from a full-Yankee reenactor. I can't sing this song, it just goes against all I believe in, but it's still an amazing song, and I still love this band.
i may be a union soldier but hell i love this song. Its got a great beat and its just a great song in general. Good job guys. Cant wait to see you again. 5/5
I just discovered this band. I really enjoyed this video. They also have a website that I stumbled upon. I hope to go to a re-enactment and see them play sometime.I was born a Yankee, but I'm a Rebel at Heart. I've make this one of my favorites.
Thanks for posting this..I have the CD they put out but it's better to see and hear it. I was at the 145 Anniversary...and I still get a chill when I recall the entirely spontaneous silence after the Angle and then Taps, echoed, across the field.... God Save the South and with her, this nation.
Although this post is coming from Northern Michigan, I love this song, and so many people would love to see the 2nd South Carolina String Band up here! Thanks for posting!
This song fills me with pride for my southern heritage and to be honest id fight for her still. Some still haven't forgotten and some awaken everyday. Deo Vindice!
What I find interesting is how, at parts like 3:50, they don't avoid the topic of the singer's death; and some other songs basically focus on death, alone. Most modern patriotic songs don't tend to have those kind of themes. Kinda shows a difference in attitudes, whether you agree with them or not.
Try an online search of "Confederate Reenactment groups," or also look online for "The Civil War News," an excellent newspaper with ads for units that accept new members
Ok, let have a Southren re-enactment unit march right in to Fort Monroe when the US Army finially leaves in 2010. I would be right there to support it. Jefferson Davis would riase from his grave in joy and I would be so proud.
Thanks for the comment Johninva. My Great, Great Grandfather David L. Crawford was wounded at Petersburg, March 25, 1865! I hope you will subscribe to my channel for future video posts.
My all time favorite song right next to Dixie and the Bonnie Blue Flag! Hearing them on this video does not do justice to actually hearing them in person. They are phenomenal and perfect the sounds of that era in history. Especially with "Southern Soldier," the lyrics alone really inspires one to great deeds. I remember us singing it at Appomattox 2005 before going into battle at "Saylor's Creek." It is amazing how much this song can instill bravery in one's self, even tho we are reenactors!
Cool. What regiment, etc. do you reenact? BTW, very cool drawings you have done on your channel just with keyboard letters, etc. Where did you learn to do that?
No. I'm thinking of it (doing reenacting). My great, great grandfather was in the CW and at Gettysburg, so I have taken a real interest in the past year or so.
