This is a neighborhood, OUR neighborhood. There is no room for an event like this. The Allegria Hotel (promoting it) has already ruined 2 of my summers by hogging the beach with their lounge chairs in front of where I live, with their noisy guests who leave their garbage behind, nobody cleans up after them. Now this? Thousands of people pouring in? It’s greedy. Whoever made this selfish decision to hold this type of event in our backyard forgot that people actually LIVE here! Shame on them!!

This competition is taking place right outside of my condo...literally....i open my blinds, look directly down at the beach...and probably hundreds of thousands of people (kill me). I live 1/2 mile from Manhattan and been surfing Long Beach, NY for over 4 1/2 yrs. It's flat for up to 5-6 weeks straight sometimes and the water is 37-43f in the winter with winds 10-35mph. Even with 7mm gloves and booties and the top of the line $450 Xcel Drylock wetsuit I'm still cold. Yes, I surf even when there's 8 inches of snow on the beach. Yeah it gets good, but only about 10-15 times a year.
