This sequence is wonderfully engaging. The sort of man one could have talked to for hours and the cat's expression, full of doubt, is a perfect counterpoint. Would like to see the whole film. I was lucky enough to see Terence Stamp play Dracula on the Gorey set in London in the 70s and still remember it well. So glad you captured Gorey on film.
@curtisrunstedler I have, and it's one of my favorites. It has sort of a Steven Soderberg meets Stanley Kubrick meets Hitchcock's "Spellbound" feel to it. The "western modern" building mentioned by Gorey is in fact the old city council building in the middle of downtown Phoenix AZ. The directors, Scott McGhee and David Siegel, also made the excellent 2001 film "The Deep End" starring Tilda Swinton, which is much easier to find on DVD.
@GuillermoNicris That's wonderful news! I'm a big fan of both directors, so I'll have to look into it. I've been trying to watch all of Ingmar Bergman's earlier films lately, which has been a thoroughly enjoyable mission, to say the least. Thank you for such courtesy!
I briefly met Edward Gorey At The Colonial House Inn in Yarmouthport MA. I lived in Yarmouthport & worked at the Inn back in the late 80s. His house was right next to the Inn and if you saw his house back then you can easily see & understand how such artwork to shows like Mystery on PBS Chanel 2 & stories like "The Ghastly Crum Tinies" were enspired!
Mooncusser, Do you have a release date for this documentary? I' like to get the DVD. Thanks. Your clips inspired me to go to the Gorey house last year. Best trip of my life.
The very sweet cat named Jane passed away peacefully at age 19 on an autumn morning in October 2007.
After the passing of Edward Gorey, she led a very happy and full indoor life with a family on Cape Cod. Her longevity was a testament to the unique household she grew up in and the opportunities it afforded her to be, a cat!
I love Edward Gorey's illustrations as much as anyone who knows - but... Check the pussycat... Jane? I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed. Awesome.
For those interested, Jane is still around, living peacefully on Cape Cod. She is pushing 19 years, and remains as sweet as she seemed in the interview.

I am indeed sorry to hear that. It's hard to believe he's been gone eight years now. Editing the footage keeps him very fresh in our memory.
