  • Excellent shiai... We can learn a lot simply watching those two masters: I've never seen a lesson of Chiba sensei but after a seminar by Sumi sensei last year I feel even more motivate to improve my Kendo!

Simply put, an even greater teacher!!

  • I want to try kendo so badly

  • Simply wonderful.

    Clean, expert Kendo.

No long and boring tsuba zeriai, no "cheap" hiki waza.

This is an example about how Kendo should be practiced even in shihai.

Great man = great sensei = perfect Kendo.

  • I wish I understood Kendo better. High level Kendo has too much pressure building and the release is too fast. Aikido/Aikijutsu/Kenjutsu form makes more sense to me. Kendo is very complicated at high levels and I get lost trying to perceive the meaning of each strike. It is very cool.

  • Beautiful kendo. It's amazing what it takes to score good ippon.

  • I've been doing kendo for about 2 years. Never really tried jodan but I've gone again a couple of people who use it. Is there no zanshin after the strike?

  • @ChaoticAnamnesis There is zanshin always after a good strike no matter which kamae you use. However zanshin is a state of mind that you can express through kiai and posture and it might have different forms, especially at hachidan level. 8.dan sensei are pretty good in focusing their spirit and doing only the most necessary movements:) And when doing katate kote strike from jodan you don't "run" anywhere, just make one step towards the opponent, with full spirit.

  • you know if some people went up against eachother with real katanas in alot of matches both fighters would be dead, but instead its who gets hit first.

  • @L0rdBalmung1

But if you hit someone's kote first, they wouldn't have a hand to strike you with.

But yes, in the day of actual sword fights, both swordsmen often died.

  • @doyley30 I would go on a rampage until I bled out 300 style lol...

    PCP would help with that...

  • @L0rdBalmung1 Shinkenshobu. a fight to the death. only one man or no one walks away.

  • The both Sumi-sensei and Chiba-sensei are my faviorite teachers. The match is completely different from younger ones'. They were fighting upon whole another level.

  • its a pleasure to see two great kendo masters of our time doing shiai

  • 思ったとおり、隙がいない。さすがですね。

  • ooooo i loved that tension they had.... fantastic kote too!

  • 2:03 i hve been trying to do this for 3 years now, his kiai is soooo strong, if anyone has been to a gasshuku with sumi sensei ,they will understand.. he is amazing.

  • @norimitsu you are going to love this: there is a video on youtube of sumi sensei teaching how to do kiai. serch for it. good luck

  • thank u some much 4 the upload

    fantastic kote

  • You can really feel the tension and skill level here,

i just watch some pseudo low level fake kendo sparring video which was insulting and depressing. And they think they are very good...

I'm so glad this is here

  • Which video are you referring to?

  • i kind of forget.... something about a niten ittoryu or something like that? It was long ago i kind of forget. My club sensei and member was like what the hell was that.

Anyway they were playing dress up while they can't even do a proper men cut. They cut a forward man and move backward after that. Incredible, that throw the basics of kendo straight out. And one of them even wear a white gi.

I see you got some pretty good kendo video. which country are you from?

  • Belgrade, Serbia.

I'm fairly new to kendo, been at it for almost a year now, but i'm hooked :)

The worst kendo desecration i've seen was a youtube video called "free shiai fight" or something like that. Two kids whacking each other senseless with shinais as if they were stone age clubs.

  • i did a kangeiko in fukuoka kyoiku daigaku, with Sumi sensei. His really a good sensei.

  • Awesome vid !

  • Fantastic

  • I had the honor of practicing with Chiba Sensei recently. Definitely makes you feel like a little kid when you practice with a hachidan.

  • You dont understand the spirit of Kendo buddy.

  • agreed! mature kendo is not flying blindly into your opponent. it may seem boring to the uneducated but, there is a "spiritual chess match" happening here. real kendo is not intended to be for the benefit of the spectator. thats precisely why when it's shown in "hollywood" movies it's usually embellished on .

  • ben je belg lol? ^^ indeed , he doesnt get it at ALL =p
