@mzjoythompson Ugh, this saddens me deeply. To think of it, the Come Clean album was considered to be quite uncommercial, and to me it was one of the better albums released by Curve, along with "Gift." However, I'm glad to know that Toni Halliday is in the studio working on a new project.
i remembr putting in the season 3 disc of buffy for the first time and screaming when this song came on even tho i had no idea who faith was yet :D good times LOL
When I first watched "Chinese Burn" on MTV the vocals were not in sync with the visuals. This gave the video a disturbing quality I found haunting, adding an edge that enhanced the music ... only to find out much later that this was a broadcasting mistake and not done on purpose. I taped that program (most likely Alternative Nation) on VHS at the time so I have the botched version. No matter how many times I've seen the correct, in-sync video I still prefer that first viewing, LOL.
@Ashleyyy85 That's funny you say that, I was just watching the Animatrix DVD, tonight and this song plays during one of the special features...I had to come here for a refresher of this classic song :-)
I love Curve and I think it's because of that them I was able to get over my maistream snobbery and decided to listen to a Garbage CD. I think both bands had a fantastic sound.
Notice how Curve and Garbage didn't actually sound similar until Curve released 'Come Clean' though (1997??) and Garbage had been making these heavy electronic songs in 1995 - listen to Subhuman and Trip My Wire (both songs blow anything Curve made out of the water)
They're similar but not identical. They're different enough that it isn't fair to say one is ripping the other off, though each may have influenced the other. I like Garbage a great deal, but I don't agree that those songs are better than everything by Curve.
Heavy electronic song's aren't eveyone's absolute fav songs. Curve tends to lean more toward Shoegazing and Garbage toward Industrial. Preference between the two is a matter of taste.
90s Garbage, was really (respecting you) maybe not in sound, but in style (this applies to Shirley) a copy of Toni, im not making rivalry, but that´s why people is always comparing because they look very similar, althought Garbage in sound are not so similar, maybe they used to make the same technique of almost Industrial/ Shoegazing sound producer, synths+distorted guitar+ vocals passed through all kinds of filters and guitar pedals+ some drum beat, you will find that in most related bands.
No no, i respect you but Curve had been making electronic related things since 91 or 92, just listen to "Doppelganger", is a mix of different sounds: distorted guitars, synthetizers and vocals, that´s why people say those things about Garbage, because Curve came out first than Garbage in style, but Garbage went Mainstream, the electronic sound you said, depends on the era we are talking (early 90s, mid 90s etc), most bands did these kinds of beats inspired by the rave culture of that time.
yes! I remember this song from la femme nikita! I loved it then and always wondered what the name of it was. then my friend showed me this video and I was happy as hell lol
Yeah, but what happened with MTV?, i dont know what MTV you got, but now is all Reality Show and pre-made teen shit,... i know time changes, but this is very opposite frow what MTV was years ago, today´s MTV and the past one is like 2 different worlds.
omg. im glad im not the only one who can name the episode on demand. not to mention this played when you start up the season 3 dvd menu. buffy, love it.
As if this band was the first to do this sound. Garbage and Curve aside, anybody heard of, well, this little band called The Cocteau Twins (Garlands), or Jesus & Mary Chain? Or Skinny Puppy.....or Nine Inch Nails...hmmmmm. Good song though.
Actually curve formed in 1990 and released 2 albums with this sound before Garbage formed in 1994, these albums are: Doppelgänger (1992) and Cuckoo (1993) and several ep singles and compilations. By the time Garbage released their first album in 1995, Curve had released 8 fantastic singles.
I've been looking for this song since I saw the Sony Minidisc ad back in 1997. 11 years of searching finally over! Feels like I've found the holy grail!!
lol i know how you feel, as soon as sony released that add i got lucky to see the video clip on mtv, later on in 2000 i think, i showed this cool song to friends and they all were like "hmm i heard this before i'm sure of it, what is it?? please tell me!!" hahah XD terrible
