You are an awesome Mom! You are so patient, and you handled the situation in a positive way. I have a 10 year old son that was diagnosed with Aspergers and ADHD last year. He never wants to get out of the shower!!!! I like watching your videos because it makes me feel like I'm not alone, there are other people dealing with similar issues. I love my son just the way he is, and I wouldn't change a thing. He is so clever and has an awesome and funny personality! I am lucky to be his Mom. -3
What A handsome little boy. You're such a good mother. So calm, and sweat to him. Most parents lose control. Sweet boy. How old is he? XOXOXO ELizabeth
Why is it that people don't respect children with Autism. Until they themselves have a child with this situation they themselves will realize they are a challenge but a gift that keeps on giving.
@multisnootylives1 You must like watching his videos, this is not the first time you have commented on his videos and this one you came back to again, you are jealous he is so handsome...You must have nothing better to do than to say nasty things to people. So does that make you feel better? I hope so, because you're life is so empty you have to do things like this and your "multisnootylives1" name ,,, really describes you well... Go get a life now , you are the retard.
@multisnootylives1 Hey your the one who is worthless, ugly & retard. I have a son who has Autism, so why don't u just get lost & dig a hole & sit in it
....I am not trying to be rude, or arrogant. Just want to educate and make aware. I once also believed in the epidemic but i have seen the research and done the research and it clearly shows otherwise. Wakefield was a Quack! That is why he no longer holds an MD.
I love these kids and they are amazing. I also have seen first hand how hard and challenging they can be. I am in no way belittling you or your son!
....The primary reasons for more reports is heightened awareness(when nothing gets reported then the following year 180 cases get reported, then obviously there will be a resulted 180%change), the changing of criteria in the DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders), and The California data(which basically shows a 273% jump in cases from 1997-1998). I have attached some links below of research that backs this up.
I am about to graduate with a degree in Speech Language Pathology and Audiology. The research shows that there is no direct link between ASD and Vaccines. The reason you see such higher statistics is because of the number being reported!!
I am about to graduate with a degree in Speech Language Pathology and Audiology. The research shows that there is no direct link between ASD and Vaccines. The reason you see such higher statistics is because of the number being reported!!
Hate to use the word trained, but I did train my son with Autism to take showers and not a bath. I have 2 kids with autism and I very much disagree with some of the so called experts tips for bath time. My advice from someone thats living it, don't make bath time play time. No toys, bath time is all business. Get it done and get him/her out and then they can have a reward. Make them wash themselves. DON'T HELP!
(Continued) : My mum didn't like this video and if she were that kid's mama, he would say things like "Knock it off." or "Stop." I don't talk like him, I don't behave like that kid. I am so far ahead from what he has done. I heard that he had Autism at 5. But I had it since birth and had lots of Doctor visits especially the ones in Denver. I show everyone that I am great.
Autism is not a fraud to me. It's just some parents don't have them take therapy and so until this child is after 5 years old. I took therapy, classes and everything before the age of 5 and I was 2 at the time. I like taking baths but I didn't like to get my face in the water until now. I especially took cold baths. I have a friend who is more Autisic than me. His mother thought that he's a weirdo and noticed it at 6. He says movie lines, talks about ghosts, and say things over and over.
@supersonic320 you are the most unbelievable person ive ever had the misfortune of seeing on this sight. Autism is a very real disorder. Parents, relatives, siblings, friends, aquaintances...everyone is affected by a child or adult with this disorder. They cannot control their behaviors, so please do not put out your ridiculous words out for those who have experience to see.
I got an austic son..and everytime I put shampoo in his hair he thinks it gets in his eyes.....I even just rub my wet hand(no soap) on his head & he still thinks he got soap in his eyes...but I fight(he does) through it.
ummm,,, i dnt beleive in child abuse but i do believe in spankings. autism or no autism, he knows he has to take a bath everyday and u have to enforce that. all the yelling and fighting is too much too handle.
I feel for you, my son was and still is the same.. But I have found that when I pour the water over his head we count how many times I pour the water over him.. Also he is into colors so I bought some colored bath soap and that does seem to help.. I also have a special rag for his eyes.. I still havent found an easy way to cut nails, thats the worst for me..
Your a great parent. Not once did you get impatient throughout this whole thing. You always made sure he was comfortable. You also got him calmed at times .
My dual DX son is now 32. He accepts things better, but has no speech, only a few words at a time. He is at the age where no one can make him do anything...unless he wants to do it. He used his first 3 word sentance last week. Went to get him a flu shot. He said to the nurse, " Oh Hell No! then he left the room and then left the building. It will get better and Bless you both
this is my son all day! he is six and actED like this. his father is the best. he had the strength and energy to teach him how to bath and omg to take a shower, turn on and off the water, adjust hot and cold. it took a lot of horrifying screaming. my son did not like water on his face. hated when I washed his long hair. I would probably still be washing him up in the tub had it not been for his dad. he washes himself thoroughly now and turns off the water. he would prefer a bath over shower tho
Yeah, you don't have an child with autism... I mean, neither do I, but my god son has autism, and letting him stink is like letting him not eat... its just not an option...
Thank you for the comment, people are so ignorant, and really need a better education before they make stupid comments about something they know nothing about...you are right, it is not an option, its like not taking care of a baby, they cant do it themselves..
When I was a kid I put up the same fuss. Same screaming getting in and out of the tub, and same business with the fingernails. My mom couldn't handle it and went the "let the kid stink" route. It's NOT the way to go. People will forgive a lot more from a child who at least looks and smells cared for. Add filth and stink, and even kindhearted people really don't want to have anything to do with you.
Both my mom and I don't agree with the 'mercury may cause Autisum' theory. If a child is going to have autism, then there's really no stopping it he, or she, will have autsim.
Thanks for sharing...Time bath was a completely war with my son, until i discovered he was afraid of felling the water on his face (even one little drop :p). Weve solved that by giving him a towel, so he can cover his face and protect from the water...
OMG mine sound and act exactly like this. Those exact type of sounds. Thank you so much for sharing. Only one of mine has sensory. I KNOW how patient you have to be. good job.
God, this is what I go through on a daily basis, I wake up in the morning and I pray shehas a good day, I use the distraction factors like you do, sometimes she goes for it...Other times she doesn't, I was 9 months pregnant and she took off running and I had to chase her in the pouring rain and it scared the hell out of me. I thought she was gonna get hit by a car, and then getting her home after I caught her was a nightmare. My neighbor had to help get her home with me. I wish I had more help.
I think that my daughter doesnt do baths also, not because of the transitions issue, but rather too many sensations. She has sensory problems and the sliminess of the soap/shampoo along with the water temperature makes her upset. We started putting ice in her water to give her the sensory input she desires. Sounds cruel, but it helped a lot!
My 2 year old boy, just dx with asd hates bath time so much he pukes copiously (think projectile vomit) - so we have the pre-puke bath and then the post puke bath. He recovers quickly but its like we are pulling his finger nails off during bathtime
Rand institute did a study on autism.collodial silver. 80 percent increase in learning ability and cured a few. the study shows that there r not enough trace elements in the food we eat. so they supplemented these kids. it is amazing. good luck i hope this helps you and yours.
We have to bribe Zo into the bath with toys because she hates transitions...then we bribe her out with a bedtime snack. That's all transitional issues though, and her nails she's ok with (though mom does that) its her hair that she can't stand being brushed...if i do it when she's eating snack or on the computer or watchin TV its ok...is he distractable? It doesn't really teach him to deal with it, but it kinda shows that its not so bad.
He is only distractable at times.. not always. Most of the time giving the attention he is seeking, makes his behavior escalate. We have ABA now and we are working on his defiant behavior and obsessing about everything so much too. He is getting better in the bath, depends on the day. Everything is a fight that he does not want to do, but we are workin on it. Thanks for the advise and good luck and God Bless!!
