  • Ha ha ha, it is impossible that AGBell is unbiased. Yes, of course, he is one of the most biased human beings I've heard! AGBell was the head of damn oralists because of his great fame, wealth, and yes, the teacher of the deaf in his youth days, he was able to exert a powerful message in spreading the stupid propaganda of the oral method. AGBell is simply biased by hate and extinguished by anger.

  • @gratefuldeaf Yeah, it is amazing how AG Bell organization continues to claim that they are for parents' choices but in reality they are for English based options not ASL.

  • What is up with this video?? It was playing at super fast speed. I am hearing and

  • Looking good in that shirt!

  • Wow, I knew AGBAD were biased as all get out but I didn't know it was THAT off kilter. Not good at all.

  • AG Bell is not unbiased. They support listening and hearing. And that is fine! NAD supports the use of ASL. Each org. has a purpose and an agenda. Parents need to seek out unbiased information, but AG Bell is not the place to get it. They support the oral method, and they have that right.

  • That is not my beef. It is just that they have no right to claim that parents receive unbiased information in their goal while we both know it is not true. Capisci?

  • I'm hearing and currently taking ASL in college and I never knew about AG Bell and the fact that many Deaf were/are prevented from learning ASL.

I'm annoyed and sad to know that this side of history isn't taught. I think hearing parents who have Deaf children wouldn't be so scared of ASL if they were taught in schools about Deaf culture and language. Maybe that would help them to not view it as a disability and embrace it. Either way, I'm glad to say I have learned something :)

  • AGBell was born and raised in a male dominated culture. He was trained to percieve women as a "property", not as equal human being with equal Rights. His opinion of women was bigoted like most men in his time and age. It was the "norm". He and other men shared the same view towards Deaf People. Modern people supporting AGBell are carrying on AGBell's bigoted philosophy. The same bigotry white men held against Blacks and Women long time ago. AGBell supporters are not aware of it.

  • AGBell is financed by wealthy people and associations. If Deaf People have an organization that equals AGBell's wealthy status, wealthy Hearing People will assume Deaf people are equally intelligent. Wealthy people associates "Wealth Accumulation" with "Intelligence". They believe only intelligent people, with or without education, have what it takes to become wealthy. Forbes haven't mentioned a person who is Deaf as one of the millioniares/billioniares. Wealth is a political mentality state.

  • Huh? I think the sound is broken?!

  • WHOA! no good.. D=

I am soo delightful that you updated this vblog. Thank you so much for this! -fav it-

I can't believe how they could do to us? ):

  • More power to you. Give 'em hell. Good work!

  • ohh nvm i found it!!!!

    lol

  • i can't find the transcript anywhere on this right corner.

could you be more specific please?

    thanks in advance!!

  • Wow. I guess I should have look there. Not many do that.

    Thanks for transcripts.

  • I wish you had subtitled this for the hearing people. This way we can make them MORE aware of the Deaf issues. About our ecperiences being Deaf or Hard of Hearing in a Hearing world.

    Good v-blog.

  • Yes, I am aware of the importance of adding subtitles but it takes so much of my time. Instead I provide transcript (see upper RIGHT column) that translated my ASL version

  • My first school was AG Bell. I had many good and cherished memories there. Kids there were so wonderful. I won't replace that if I have a time machine. Anyway, many years later, I learned who AG Bell was, I was shocked that they named schools for deaf innocent kids across the nation after deaf-hater Eugenics Society member or president, Bell! It's insult to us! They are barbarians for doing that to kids.

    Evan

  • You look so good. AG Bell is our villian. He was furious and rude at Laurent Clerk. Bell was a member or president of Eugenics Society. He hated sign language, advocated that deaf children be sepearted in various schools to ensure that they wouldn't inherit deaf children, participated at infamous 1880 Milan Conference knowing that oral advocates like him blocked Laurent and SL advocates from voting at the conference and resulted in deaf teachers around the world laid off, and so on.

    Evan

  • your are so awesome i am deaf too!and i am oral and i am learning some signs too!

  • So are you getting to learn signs! Enjoy!

  • I grew up oral deaf, went to NTID learned ASL. Graduated. Was invited to a AGB party. Did use ASL there....guess what? I was never invited again!!

    That's AGB for you.

  • thats a downright good vlog entry. you did do a good job pointing out the hypocrisy in AG Bell. well said!

  • Thumb up!!! I am glad that you brought up the "unbiased" on AG Bell!!! You made me thought so hard!! Smile. Shawn

  • I just love every video you churn out and this is one that hit home, cos if we allow AG Bell's influence to creep into the 21st century.

I would hate to see "so called experts"pushing for it,, Barb our culture is dwindling because of those experts who thought they KNEW what was best for the deaf..and we already saw what happened when we allowed SEE come into our lives,, sighhhhh

    Keep up the good work,,

  • You are so right. It sure looks biased to me. The NAD website is inspirational as it encourages the teaching/learning of ASL and therefore the sharing of culture. Like you said, "So who is UNBIASED here?" I think the problem is that AG Bell still treats deafness as a disability that has to be "cured" or "fixed." They ignore the rich Deaf history and culture. Well I support you in your efforts. I'm hearing, trying to become bilingual Eng/ASL. Keep up the good work!
