@gwaladrielle Maybe, Ive watched this movie a few times and yet thats the only conclusion, that I guess Lully thinks the king is like moving away from him.. or something, Lully could have just been sexually frustrated :p

Isn't the woman in bed with him...... Ingrid Rouiff, she plays Madame de Montespan. Louis never had a mistress named Julie and that is who Claire Keim plays. I am confused......
@jplully Claire Keim is not in this Clip. She played Madeleine's niece - the one that sang Isis before the King. This mistress of Louis XIV, guess around this time, was Madame de Montespan, please correct me if i were wrong.
@GianneDaSamurai For some reason he reminds me instead of Louis from Man In the Iron Mask played by Leo Dicaprio and that guy Prince Poppycock from America's Got Talent without all the makeup and stuff on. By the way Anne Rice is amazing and Vampire Lestat is a great book:) Also I kind of see the vampire Louis from Anne Rice's books and Legolas from LOTR thrown in there too. But thats just me.
@philippusII He was Bisexual. Maybe not in "love" with the king, he was simply a great example of an baroque-man; honour and worship the leaders, treat them as gods and love them as gods. That's baroque in a nutshell. I guess Lully was a radical man of his time.
@Stravinsky91 He wasn't 'bisexual', whatever the hell that means, just a pig who liked to fuck women and girlish boys, so please drop your Post Modern glamour term and romanticism. Im almost certain there are celebrities whom you worship as gods and they barely graduated high school but are you baroque? And Lully was in no way a radical, only a mentally unstable, surly clown with a gift for manipulation.
@hillbby Bisexual means that you\re attracted to both sexes if you didn\t know what that meant... I have actually studied european culture and baroque iin school, and I know that the centre and foundation of baroque was to honour and gloryfy the ruling class, in this case the king. Lully was bisexual, and maybe had platonic feelings to the king, but neccessary sexual. I do not claim myself to be #baroque#. I do not like celebrities of today, like you said they barely graduated.
@Stravinsky91 It sounds like you had a Marxist for a professor who skewered your view of life past and present. Baroque was primarily characterized by excess and flamboyance largely from the Church' desire to Counter the Reformation by elucidating religious themes to the less educated. The wealthy thereafter used it to show off.
No one , including Lully is or was 'bisexual'.He was simply a self impressed man long lost to depravity and manic sexual addiction.
@hillbby The people at this time was indeed completely under the church still, but the ruling class and riher people changed their lifestyle and the royalty (especially in France, not everywhere in Europe) was to be be gloryfied by art, music etc. Because Lully was a composer and musician, his goal and desire was to gloryfy the King. Are you denying that bisexuality exist?! Of course he was a cruel man in many ways, and he had a lot of sex with both women and men to show his power.
@Stravinsky91 Thank you Stravinsky, for the duet with hillbby, only makes this movie more interest. Lully was a libertine, and in that case, it wasn't sexual orientation that mattered, it was rather a lack of it... what do you think of the movie about Coco Chanel and Stravinsky?
@dblueroom I think it's an interesting movie, a little long perhaps. Not as I expected it, but okay. I prefer the BBC docudrama "Riot at the rite", wich circles around the performance of the rite of spring more from the beginning. The entire movie is available to see on Google videos I believe, if they haven't removed it god forbid haha. I personally thing we need more movies about composers like this. Immortal beloved is a GREAT film, not as acurate or histroically correct but really good!
@hillbby And by the way, mu professor isn't marxist. He despise the left movement and especially the marxist ideology. What we learned wasn't about the ordinary peoples view on the ruling class and the king, it was about the culture and artists in the courts of Europe.
@philippusII I think he was remember he told his wife he wished he could have love her but his heart is with someone else? I think he meant the King. He was not even there to see his child born b/c the King was sick plus HE WAS GETTIN HELLA TURNED ON BY THE KING GEETING SOME LOL

Actually, the way king Louis xiv appears in this film is the way i imagined the vampire Lestat when i read Anne Rice's books.

I've made a little search of the cast on the web, and it seems that the woman who appears as Montespan in this movie is a porn actress.
