  • Very very great video. Thanks.

  • Freaking fu**ing great demo, very nice style dude! keep it up.. the video is much more better then the vids on the website :D

  • that sounded friggin great.

  • A+ ! Superb!

  • multiples... patched to an output and an in..? dont get it .. out of the LFO triangle to multiple... and filter in from a multiple.. so what IS a multiple ?.. is it in or out or is it both...

  • KoOL .)

  • Amazing!

  • very cool demo

  • dude, WICKED DEMO!!!!

  • fab sounds beautifully put together bravo!

  • Sounds great! Very nice musical demo!

  • @JohnLRice Many thanks John - I'm a fan of your vids I've seen via Muff's too :)

  • Well Done!

  • I want one of these so much...

  • Loverly synth!

  • Good machine!!!! Welcome to neuronaluniverse!!!!

  • Great demo man, this synth sounds fantastic! I'm definitely going to buy one if I can save the money. And it has lots of CV inputs and outputs so you can connect it to other analogue gear. Thanks for uploading this!

  • why not build a modular instead of buying this? i cant really find the point

  • @pomfrit93 I have a modular system too. The Telemark offers a unique tone which differs to anything else I have in the studio, plus if you built a eurorack modular to match these features, it will probably cost more than £600. (For example 2x oscs, 1 lfo, 1 S&H/noise = approx. £300, bubblesound SEM filter = £160, doepfer ulitily modules = £200+ modules, case + PSU + rails = £150 etc etc). This works nicely and has more creative options with a modular system, but it's also great on its own.

  • @MikeHulmeUK If I'm not mistaken, you could interface this with a modular system as well. You may have to compensate for differences in CV, but it should work!

  • WOW. This vid shows how (what is actually) a pretty basic synth can make fantastic music in the hands of someone who really knows what they're doing. Very nice work!

  • im planning on buying one of these but im afraid its not gonna be very musical. how do you like it?

  • sound great

  • Awesome vid - the Telemark has just jumped to the top of my 'want list' - AS should be paying you for this! :o)

  • how much ???????

  • Brilliant synth, brilliant song!

  • WOW!! This song is so good. Thanks for sharing your work ;)

  • ..Damn great sounds/song, congrats for that! Would like to hear more. Do you have other songs on the net?

  • @filippelyra Thanks mate. I'm on a label called U&A Recordings and go under my own name. Before that I worked under the name 'Introspective' on Sinister Recordings and others. For all my latest tracks you can check my Soundcloud page and most of my stuff is available @ Beatport. Thx for the support!

  • Hey great stuff, how you getting on with this synth? Is it capable of huge fat bass. Possible for sub bass? cheers

  • @empirix Absolutely. I've used it on every track/remix since I bought it for everything from main bass to crazy FM modulation effects. It's capable of subs, yeah, the filter is great and the oscillators can shake the walls ;-)

  • Just great!

  • Hello Mike, great video! What sequencer do you use? Sounds a little bit as if it was transposing it self. Or is it simply a MIDI sequence from a computer?

    Florian

  • I'm sorry about this noob question, but how did you actually play your instruments? Did you connect your keyboards and drum samplers via midi cables or USB to PC?

  • WOW! Amazing! I can't believe that this has all been done using this Analogue Solutions synth! Impressive!

  • I always come back and watch this video. This melody is almost like hypnotic, you should make a song out of this if you haven't already done that!

  • Nice :)

  • this sounds amazing

  • I don't know why, but this video unlocks my mind. It's some sort of audible key. I don't know how it works but when I watch it, everything becomes clear enough for me to make sense of things I usually can't make sense of. You're some kind of wizard, Mike. Do you have a longer version that I can use? I'd be prepared to pay for it.

  • 2:02 I hear 808 cowbell. is the telemark doing that too?

  • Yep, sure is! I was surprised when I patched it in too....can't remember how i did it though!

  • @MikeHulmeUK crazy, man. this synth must be awesome. I've decided my next synth will have 2 osc's, I've gone long enough without cross-modulated sounds.

  • These sounds inspired me to write a poem. Thanks, Mike - you cleared some stuff up for me!

  • Wow, thanks. The most rewarding thing when doing music is knowing that I've inspired others to do something creative too. Nice one!

  • at about 1:51 i was sold this is awesome....

  • Mike,

Firstly: Killer sounds, man. Never heard better.

We only see you adjusting the Telemark, but every once in a while your pattern goes radically swing/shuffle. Are you adjusting your sequencer swing ratio with the other hand??

    Thanks

  • Hi there, thanks for the kind comment!

The shift of the swing on the pattern was all done on the computer. I programmed the automation before recording so the swing would change at the right moments. Hope that helps. Mike.

  • wow ur realy good with this n_n

  • its great, it sound almost as good as my Minimoog Voyager. :P

  • Semblance/Telemark and SEM to me sound widely widely widely different.

Even on the few videos available for the new SEM, the oberheim clearly has a lot more vintage vibe going, but i actually prefer the Semblance because of its quite more agressive/cutting sound. I got the vintage juicy part covered with a roland SH-2.

It sort of reminds me about MS-20 (although nos as wild bc of filter) specially regarding VCO sound, that "thin" but cool sound.

  • very nice Demo,concratulation...5******

  • Sad thing is, there is absolutely no reason to buy this any more.

Tom Oberheim, ie. the guy whose original design this is a copy of, is now making the original SEM again. Not only that, but he is making them in both fully patched out versions (like this) and MIDI versions. And for LESS that analogue solutions is charging for their replica versions.

AS had their fun profiting off of Toms designs, but now he is back in the game, and this thing is overpriced, a cheap copy, and done for...

  • Well, if you look at the features of the Telemark vs. the features of the new SEM, the Telemark still holds up as it offers both Midi-CV plus (i think) more patchpoints than both versions of the new SEM combined. Obviously you have the Oberheim 'sound' with the new SEM and I'm sure it is an amazing bit of kit. I'd love to have one. But you can't dismiss the Telemark as a "cheap copy" as the Telemark truely is a powerful synth with an amazing sound of its own.

  • @MikeHulmeUK

Fair points. Perhaps "cheap" was not the right term. I would assume that most people that are buying analogue gear and need midi already have kentons or other midi/cv converters, though. Another factor is the size. The telemark looks pretty massive for what it is, while the SEM is nice and compact. May not matter to most people, but I'm sure it is a factor for some with limited space. Price is a main factor too. I have to wonder if AS will lower the price now to compete?

  • @MikeHulmeUK

Like anything though, it come down to personal preference. As you can tell, I am very happy Tom is making the SEM again, and that is my choice! :-)

    Cheers!

  • The Telemark offers a lot that the new SEM does not. It has MIDI>CV conversion as well as the patch points in one unit. With the SEM it's one or the other. Also the new SEM is only available from one outlet in the U.S. & I think this is unlikely to change. Shipping to the UK is $65 with import duty working out around £100, making it more expensive than the Telemark for UK buyers. Despite all this I've ordered a new SEM. I just love that sound. The Telemark doesn't have that.

  • I like the patch panel à La MS-20.

  • amazing. is this one device creating all the sounds and patterns? its all analogue? do you midi coming from an external source? wtf is happening here? sounds faaanntastic!

  • Thanks for the message :) All of the sounds you hear are made with the Telemark, all the drums, everything. I recorded most of the parts in to Ableton before I hit record on the camera, but the main line is recorded and tweaked live with the other bits coming from the computer. Great synth and I'm still having much fun with it !!

  • I know the MIDI on this is limited but does it all work okay? Had some issues with my Neptune 2 & the built in MIDI>CV conversion. Very tempted by one of these but I don't (yet) have an analogue sequencer so I'd also be looking to trigger from a computer/sequencer.

  • The MIDI works really well. No drop outs or random stuff, it's solid. I don't have an analog sequencer, i just trigger it all from Ableton and it works like a dream.

  • can it do chords?

  • @petersedin as far as I know its monophonic. However, you could tune the oscillator to intervals, for instance perfect 5th or octaves

  • Not unless you get more than one of them! This is monophonic.

Great demo. Really addictive sound. I need one so I can get a fix on tap ;) So the drums are Telemark as well? That's cool.

  • this is a great demo however it makes no sense particularly for any american to get this (because the exchange rate is so bad) when the SEM handbuilt by Tom (which almost too collectible to pass up) is now available. If I were in europe then I might weigh my options against VAT other wise it seems like a no brainer.

  • ...not exactly. You can get these from numerous US retailers throughout the country for a very reasonable price. The new SEMs are beautiful, however they don't immediately supercede the SEMblance or Telemark in terms of capability or sonic quality. ASol has a unique tone of it's own and contains many useful features absent on even the new SEMs. Monetarily speaking it's also worth considering that SEMblances go for 745 as opposed to the new SEMs at 899.

  • true about the semblance. I was thinking that this telemark goes retails for 1150 and the semblance goes for 750 while the straight up sem goes for 599, the patch point $789, $899 for the Midi. It still seems like a better deal to get the SEM and from what I've heard the telemarks pots had issues. So all in all pro vs con more pros landed in the Oberheim camp not even just because of the collectability which actually is a factor.

  • This sounds great though.

  • wish i could have both. ;)

  • there really are so many great things on the market right now compared to just a few years ago. I'm still recovering from having purchased a spectralis, voyager and elektron this summer so I think I've got to lay off for a bit. Its a horrible habit really.

  • yeah man... i live in spain where this runs for 630€... on dollars it passes the thousand... and on the overseas there are other nice oberheim clones...

  • anyone got any ideas as to how these telemarks compair to the vermona perfourmer?.. filters that is .. as the perfourmer is 4VCO's so should be a fatter sound ..but is it?

  • Wow nice synth I didn't think it would sound as good as that., Great sounds and tune, thanks!

  • amazing sounds. what parts are playing live and what are recorded (I assume the drums are).

PS is it wrong that part of this reminds me of a Moonbeam song?

  • thanks for the comment! the first sound you hear in the clip was done live, all the other elements were made on the Telemark but recorded before I did the video.

Nothing wrong with Moonbeam, i remember working with Oleg helping him to sell ringtones before they were big - glad to see they're doing so well now :)

  • Absolutely beautiful. I hope to add one to my list of gear in the near future.

  • many thanks! highly recommend one.

  • I'm in the market for a SEM inspired semi-modular and am just trying to get opinions here: Which do you think is gonna turn out more awesome in terms of versatility? The Telemark or the SEM reissue that has the patch points on board? They've both got about the same number of patch points, but they both have patch points that the other doesn't have (I.E. SEM has external sync ability that the Telemark doesn't have, while the Telemark's got a noise output that the SEM doesn't.) Sexy demo, btw!

  • That's a tough choice. One other thing that the Telemark has the that the Tom Oberheim SEM lacks is BOTH MIDI and CV patch points.

One can see this being put to good use in the Big City Music demo. You can have the main sequence come in over MIDi and use CV control at the same time. Or send a sequence via MIDI & CV!

  • I ended up getting the Telemark. More expensive I know, but it's a bit more flexible (more patche points!) and it's even got a noise gen to boot! Only thing I wish it had that the SEM does is CV control over LFO speed. Otherwise, I'm very happy with it.

  • Oh, that's great. Please post some videos/demos when you get a chance. We'd love to hear it in action.

  • No way. Let's just say that the way I use synthesizers isn't exactly the kinda stuff people wanna hear in a demo. ;-)

  • I seriously doubt that! Freak that machine!

  • Alright, I guess if you really wanna see somebody rub their penis all over a synthesizer... stand by in a day or two for some awesomeness.

  • Sorry Mister But I have a simple question to ask you! How do you sequence it?

  • No probs, it is sequenced using a computer, triggered by MIDI.

  • Ahhhhh very helpful information! So I could sequence it using Cubase, Live, or any other sequencer? I'm gonna google it for more information! Thanks for the quick response! I love the video, man!

  • Yessir, you can use any sequencer you want to. In fact, you could even use an analog sequencer for it!

  • great demo mike. do you have any idea how high the telemark is in rack terms (ie 4u high maybe??) thanks.

  • Thanks. It actually takes up 6u on a rack. The brackets all come in the box too. Hope that helps.

  • great thanks mike.

  • That is a beautiful demo. You should be proud. Nice work.

  • Nice demo, thanks for posting! Sequenced from MIDI I assume? Where are the drum sounds from?

  • Hi John, thanks! Yep, all sequenced using MIDI, different elements recorded in to the computer (as it's a mono instrument). All the drum sounds come from the Telemark! Even the 808-ish cowbell :)
