  • Both Burtons' and Nolans' batmans are fantastic. They're both fantastic artists, and that's the bare truth. I relate a lot more to Burton, but that's irrelevant.

  • @Somethingsmissing94 Well put, I agree.

  • I think looking at these "behind the scenes" videos destroys the magic with the movie. Can anyone just tell me if they ever talk about the fighting scenes and what martial art Michael Keaton was trained in for this movie?

  • bill fuckin murray as batman? WTF WTF WTF WTF WTF

  • 4:41 meet the amazing tim burton :D

  • 13 people are fans who like Nolan's Batman instead of Burtons Batman.(PUMPS SHOTGUN)BANG!Ya dead!

  • I like Burton's Batmans more than Nolan's, because they're more escapist and have a great mood. Nolan's Batmans are too adult and "realistic" to my taste. Maybe it works for major audience, but it didn't work for me. PLUS Bale is really annoying as Batman.

But hey, that's only my opinion.

  • @BubbleT1ger I agree with you.

  • Wow bill Murray lmao

  • one of the best movies of the 80's

  • I am still kind of bewildered as to how ( & why) Michael Keaton was chosen to play Batman ? why him out of so many other possibilites? I would at least expect a square jawed, chisiled featured actor... Kirk..Montreal, Canada

  • I miss the 80's

  • Burton's Batman...genius.

Thank God he didn't end up doing Superman.

  • bill murray as batman? are you fucken kidding

  • Well said: Keaton is Batman... he really acts like he is insane, like Bruno Diaz has to be, he looked very traumatize for watching his parents killed as a child, Keaton the Best! The worst: Clooney, he was a funny Batman, always happy, nothing to do with Bruno Diaz personality. Best movies of Batman: Batman 1, Batman Returns, Batman The Dark Knight... a completely shit: Batman Forever and Batman & Robin, fortunately they gave Nolan these last Batman films, he has done great job with Gotham City

  • also burton is interested only in image,

  • @S1elmx That's why he's a film director, honey.

  • bassinger was very sexy back then elfmans theme is still the best. burtons batmobile is on a par with nolans vehicles, i just think the new ones edge burton out for me because both 'begins and the dark knight are great films whereas 'returns was crap.imho. and some of burtons action footage was awful too, although i don't know how much you can put that down to keatons very heavy suit. love that burton batmobile though.

  • to bad Bob Kane wasn't around to see the massive impact and effect of the Dark Knight.

  • Bale is the worst. He made Batman into a joke, he can't even speak.

  • Why didn't they put THIS ON THE BLU-RAY RELEASE?!?!?!??!!

  • I may not like Keaton's Batman, but I am sooo glad they went with him and not BILL MURRAY!

  • Comment removed

  • Look how much Batman has changed......IT is for the better lol

  • @MultiFred50....adam west was not the first batman his name was lewis wilson in 2 films one in 1943 and 1949...but are very rare to find

  • What the fuck?! Did that jackass say he wanted Bill Murray to play Batman?

  • those movies have an atmosphere that...jeez its just unexplanable, they so awsome, its brilliant.

how can ppl say that those bale shit movies are good? the amasing unbeatable batman art was alredy created with burton and keaton, its perfect!

  • @yksnimus

At least Nolan's movies improved on Schumacher's crap don't you think and what do you think of the animated shows and movies?

  • @Johnlindsey28 I dont remember much of the classic animated series dude( but the snes game Batman & Robin is awsome)

But I have to say justice league is one of the best animated series ever, I feel the script dude of the show is as fan of batman as me!

  • I dont care what anybody says this film holds up right along w/all the other comic book films today. Its a cult classic & the quality was before its time

  • @elijahthesamurai

What do you think of the sequel, the animated show and the reboot?

  • The first Tim Burton Batman is the best Batman movie. Period.

  • @GGBK28

Any thoughts on Batman Returns, Mask of the Phantasm, Under the Red Hood, Batman Beyond Return of the Joker uncut version, Batman Begins and Dark Knight?

  • @Johnlindsey289 To be honest I haven't seen Phantasm yet (shun me if you wish). I loved Under the Red Hood & Return of the Joker. I enjoyed Batman Begins & The Dark Knight but they ignored the comics a little bit too much for me. Batman Returns was . . . too Tim Burtony. I thought Danny DeVito & Michelle Pfeiffer (I know I'm probably misspelling her name) were perfect cast choices though.

  • @GGBK28 "Batman Returns was . . . too Tim Burtony." Yeah, God forbid a director makes a movie that's actually identifiable as his own work.

  • @Zod79 I meant it felt more like watching just another Tim Burton movie than a Batman flick

  • @GGBK28 That statement makes no sense.

  • @Zod79 How so?

  • @GGBK28 Because-believe it or not-Batman is not only not real, he's not a film director.

  • @GGBK28 Completely agree! I'll never forget the day I saw this at the movies!

  • @becomethemonster6 I was actually born after the movie came out, but I actually saw it for the first time when I was 8 . . . kind of scared me a bit then, but now it's my favorite!

  • @GGBK28 Its a classic for sure!

  • @becomethemonster6

Me too when i was 7 and saw it 5 times, had a batman birthday cake, some of the comics and read some of my big brothers DC comics as i grew up with Superman and others, played the games, saw Batman Returns 4 times in theaters, watched the show religiously since i was 10 etc. I was converted into a Batman fan. Did you see Batman Returns in theaters and also watched the animated show as well?

  • @Johnlindsey289 I watched the show but never saw Batman Returns in theaters, mom bought me a bunch of merch from it tho. She also worked at the local video store so when it came out, she could rent it for free with no return policy lol

  • if you guys listen carefully you'll hear some songs on the batman expanded edition from lalalandrecords

  • Jon Peters is an idiot. Total idiot. Think I'm crazy? He did The Wild wild West with Will Smith. It was his idea for the large robotic spider.

  • @mm51688 how the fuck do u now u havent read a single comic

  • So far the films fall short of the batman visual impact not only for the portrayal of

weak looking Bruce Waynes but especially from the inabilaty to follow a costume color and material design and a stubborness to refuse to use opaque glowing white eye lenses which add a considerable increase to his graphic portrayal

Still i know that one day someone will get it right

  • Bill Murray as Batman, there's a joker here, in the niebourgh hood, who you gonna call, BATMAN

  • Reason why people today say Bale is the better Bruce Wayne because we have this image that only a tall, full hair, strong chin person can be attractive enough to be Bruce Wayne.

  • @zardcat1111 no because he actually did it pretty good remember even in the comics bruce in public in his younger days was suppose to be kind of a jerk and most people were suppose to think how the hell is this guy suppose to run a billion dollar company keaton pulled a more business like bruce wanye even through tim didnt really put it in either films

  • G... VHS quality suciks some balls...

  • I remember being in second grade and seeing this documentary on TV....it was really exciting...so much hype!

  • @jwild611 i wasnt even in grade school when this came out

  • Bill Murray as Batman? WTF man???

  • Thanks 4 uploading this

  • @2:48

  • Jon Peters is fucking moron. Bill Murray as Batman?? What the fuck?? Has he ever even looked at a comic book? Anybody who has seen an evening with Kevin Smith would understand. He should not be allowed anywhere NEAR any comic book movie.

  • @Malenock86

He did alright with this one didn't he!

Kevin Smith is a lousy druggo. His movies are craparoo.

  • @Malenock86 thets why hes so great as batman, no one would expect him the batmans thet are around now, if someone told you he was batmans, you would say, ya, he seemed kinda odd. besighed, jhon peaters can smile and still look scary.

  • le pondrian subtitulos saludos

  • I used to have this on VHS. I taped it off the Family Channel.

  • Antiquated horseshit.

  • I was 18 when this movie came out in theaters...It was THE summer movie of 1989! This version made comic books mainstream (and Hollywood marketable).

  • Tim Burton is a puppet, his mind is actually controlled by that pinball machine! The terror D:

  • My fav batman movie ever. The dark knight sucked imo.

  • @stuarachel why did it suck?

  • @stuarachel

What about Batman Mask of the Phantasm, Begins and Under the Red Hood?

  • @Johnlindsey289

    there good too

  • Micky Mouse, Coke Cola, Batman symbol, Superman symbol. Know ALL over the Earth !!

  • what the hell? thats not keaton at 6:38. surely he could have done that move himself?

  • @itsmenaughty2

    Looks like him.

  • I often wonder how Bob Kane would've reacted to Batman Begins and The Dark Knight

  • Val Killmer did OK, Clooney was the worst one, Bale is great Batman, but Keaton IS Batman

  • @PitBullZGB

    What about Conroy?

  • actally the original batman was adam west

  • @PitBullZGB THATS WHY BURTON CHOSE HIM, HA AND I REMEMBER EVERYONE PISSED WHEN THEY CHOSE MICHAEL KEATON, BUT HE NAILED THE ROLE.

  • no matter how good dark knight is, this movie will always be the best batman movie. its just sooooooooooooooooooooo good.

  • best batman movie ever and best music to a batman movie ever

  • @i4orJesusChrist I agree with you, but i think Heath Ledger is a better Joker than Jack Nicholson

  • @geds7 nope

  • was'nt John Peter's responsible for that disaster "Wild Wild West"

  • Wow, look how young Tim Burton is!

  • The Dark Knight is an amazing movie, but Batman is an amazing COMIC BOOK movie and to be honest, when I walk into a comic book movie, I want PART of the experience to feel unreal, a little simulated, maybe even a little cartoonish.

    Batman DID that for me.

I don't like Tim Burton at ALL, but I give him props for this movie.

  • @ZyxthePest i agree sometimes they try to put to much reality into fantasy these days.

  • RIP Bob Kane. You may be gone, but your creation, Batman will live on forever!

  • this movie was sheer brilliance! this series really took not only the batman of tradition but 80's him and also used classic film and really showed goth and horror at the same tiem.. jack nicholoson is the best joekr and to this day no one has ever came close. period.heth ledger sucks. Micheal keaton is batman!

  • best batman movie ever and of course the music is epic!

  • @jorgeiramain Written and Produced by Prince

  • At 7:24-7:29 Michael Keaton went from being Bruce Wayne to suddenly being Beetlejuice, LOL!

  • If Tim Burton was filming Batman again today; he'll be using Jonny Depp as Batman and Helena Bonham Carter would be the female lead, and Johnny Depp would be kissing Helena Bonham Carter... ALOT

  • Esto es una verdadera obra de arte, gracias¡¡¡

  • Thanks for uploading shame this isn't on the Blu Ray.

  • OMG, Billy Murry as batman, where they insane! Thank god some higher force must have intervined!

  • @HydesBadAssChickFan I'm pretty sure that that "higher force" was Tim Burton himself. After all, HE'S the one who was directing the movie. :D

  • @caitlinjane92 I think from the interview 7:12 it was the producers that made that decision...Tim Burton's job is to direct the actors not be the almighty god of every movie hes envolved in lol

  • its been 20 yrs since i saw that thank you

  • Best superhero movie ever

  • BIll Murray? Haha I forgot about that line.

  • I really cant thank you enough for uploading this film

when i bought the batman movie i was disapointed that they hadent included this documentary

a saw this as a kid when my dad recorded it from tv with the film

  • Tim Burtons has his own batman

and Chris Nolan has his own batman

I Love both, but the dark knight has a Great story, its very thrilling, kinda scary,

and the only thing annoying about Bales Batman is his voice. Its more realistic because Bruce has to disguise his voice.

I grew up watching Burtons batman and i still love his batman, but The Dark Knight is a great batman movie also.

  • @highlandsdude1

Burton's Batman also disguises his voice.

  • People shit on the Burton movies now, because of the Christopher Nolan ones, but I actually like these better. I think Christian Bale is a terrible Bruce Wayne, and the only thing I really liked about the Dark Knight was Heath Ledger.

  • @badtown Christian Bale is a great Bruce Wayne but a annoying batman .... nah i can't really say that I both Nolan and Burton's work and you have to give thanks to Nolan if it wasn't for him we would have been left with a campy robin with nipple guards

  • I wanna see deleted scenes

  • Funny. That Batman drawing at 1:14-1:20 looks more like The Christian Bale Batman than it does Michael Keaton.

  • Not really at 1:14.; The 1:20 version does, more-so.

  • @shadowofbat It's more about the eyes than anything, and Keaton had the eyes for it.

Neal Adams and Jim Lee's Batmans (my favs) don't look like either Bale or Keaton.

  • Bill Murray can't be Batman in a thousand years. He'd be the WORST Batman since George Clooney!

  • and the fact tht adam west wanted to be batman is rediculous

  • @shadowofbat yeah.. im not sure that Bill Murray couldn't have pulled it off if he really tried BUT i can't help but always identify Bill With "Peter Veinkman" (Spelling?) from Ghostbusters... He will always be A Ghostbuster to me.. and id LOVE to see them make a GOOD Ghostbuster 3 film!

  • This is probably the best portaryl of Batman in costume.

  • you do realize Kevin Smith was just joking about Burton and really doesn't give a shit

  • bill murray, seriously? i luv the guy but not as batman

  • kevin smith is pretentious nobody, burton is one of the top rated directors = end of story.

  • O hell yea, not to mention more imature than smith, i mean have u heard what that fat pig said about tim? tims mind is too much for smiths

  • @YojimboAuron

I agree and would Kevin Smith enjoy Nolan's new movies?

  • @Johnlindsey289 I believe he said he did

  • WOW! Taht's cool! Thank you man!!

  • If that's what Kevin Smith said then he's a fucking moron. Because Batman 1989 and returns = work of art.

  • Yep, he said it on Jay Leno and on an evening with Kevin Smith 2.

  • @Swoop223

Most agree man, what do you think of Begins and Dark Knight?

  • @Johnlindsey289 thanks bro, I loved begins and dark knight to my suprise was even better.

Did you like the new batman reboot?

  • @Swoop223

Yes HUGE improvements over Schumacher's garbage while TDK is the best of the new ones i still think 1989 is the best Batman movie ever.

  • Superman Blows

    Batman Rules

    End Of Story.

  • Bill Murray as Batman??? whoa.....

  • Thank God they went with Keaton! I guess they had Murray in mind when they wanted to make 'Batman' campy like the 60s TV show.

  • Bill Murray would make a not-very-good batman.

  • I like Burton and Nolan's films. Burton's are the better of course, but Nolan's will give you some cheap entertainment....

  • I think Nolan has better stories, but Burton has more style. Which makes it more like the comics

  • HEY ITS ARLISS

  • i remember seeing this movie when i was a kid, michael keaton will always be my batman

  • @ Agreed Keaton was the best. has anyone noticed that keatons mask in batman returns looks like it fits his head more?

  • @WildWolf21

I believe you, no matter how good the new movies are, my Batman will always be this one. strange isn't it? :-) it is the movie, the music, especially the music, worthy of a dark knight.

  • @WildWolf21

I grew up in the 90's with a few different Batman. I'm with you. Batman (1989) is the best Batman movie ever made. Michael is the one and only Batman!!

  • @WildWolf21 Amen to that

  • @WildWolf21 Michael Keaton will always be the batman, like Alec Guinness always will be the only Obi Wan, just like Jack Nicholson will be the joker. Some characters are purely defined by the actors, who play them. These three are some of them.

  • @Evertale1 yes

  • @Evertale1 Heath,Jack,Michael and Christain are all amazing

  • bill murray as batman? peters did too much coke..

  • @Frye666 Batman is not a comedian. Nor a ghostbuster.

  • @Zamudiokid are you posting this for me? did you even understand that I disliked the idea to cast Murray as Batman?

  • @Zamudiokid WTF r u talking about? I disliked the idea of casting Murray as Batman.

  • @Frye666 I agree'd with you. Gave the wrong impression, my bad. It would have been real sad if they had the lead ghost buster play Batman. Bill isnt brooding at all, so its embarrassing to imagine him in the bat suit.

  • bill finger shouldve been on that set. he deserved it. kane is a hack. and finger is a god.

  • so what ur saying is Bill got fingered by Kane cos he took all the credit? the irony.

  • Can you favorite an entire playlist?

  • Actually his the reason why bale's decided to have his voice like that for Batman was because in his Cowl he has a voice thing to make it NOT sound like Batman

  • after i saw keaton in beatlejuice i think he could have been a joker , but jack was fine too.

  • alot of people bash batman and robin... i did till i heard shumacer was trying to go for a more 60's camp movie. going on that he really did a great job modernizing the adam west stuff....i also dont know why people dont like bales bat voice even in the comics hes known to have a gritty rough voice and it seems to fit specifically in knight in begins it wasn't as developed. kane drew bats and presented him to finger who did most of the writing and background and so fourth.

  • i think Bale's voice is common sense as he's concealing his identity. that's why i prefer Batman over Superman as Bruce Wayne hididng his identity is more credible with the mask and voice. I mean people are that dumb in Superman's world to recognise a man with/without glasses and who sounds the same?

  • But its a movie where you can suspend belief batman jumps from skyscrapers and catches men faling at speed from said falls whats realistic about that??>

  • @mp01juve

I think Batman is more interesting than both Supes and Spiderman combined.

  • i liked the idea that they were gonna do a film in the idea of how camp it could be. that'd be funny.

burton's are almost fantasies. Set in an almost of the top world.

Nolan's are in a techno world. I love them both so much.

  • ah! soundtrack has nice little pitch bends. those sound pretty neat.

  • Tim Burton looks like a cross between Ronnie James Dio, and Alice Cooper, in this footage, lol. Thanks for sharing it.

  • Esto también falta en la edición especial ¿pero que les pasa a los de la Warner?

  • bill murray?

  • I 2nd that, I can't imagine Bill Murray as Batman.

  • Can you imagine Bill Murray playing Batman or even Bruce Wayne? Crazy.

  • If Jim Morrison did films, this is what they'd look like. Burdon even looks like Morrison!

  • 1:04 Am I the only one who thinks that Tim is soooo cute! He's a tad awkward, but I love it ^^ He's so lanky and I love his hair XD

1:49 "I'm Batman" why does this crack me up? hehe

  • 1:49 , that line cracks me up aswell ;p

i think it has something to do with the simpsons mayor west, in one episode i remember him saying "i'm batman" in a soft voice.

  • i think he is too!

  • He doesn't read comics yes but im sure he did just 2 make the film. U can c sum resemblements from the killing joke in this movie. This should ave been on the DVD Special Edition & all other orginial material in 1989. Do I even dare say this but I think Dick Donners Superman DVD got the better treatment than what this Batman film did I mean wot happened warner Bros. Lets hope that the 20 anniversary has this and more on it.

  • You can tell Tim Burton doesn't read comic books from watching the first two Batman Movies, they just seem like classic "Tim Burton" movies, he took his own spin on the franchise, don't get me wrong I am a huge Tim Burton fan but I think Christopher Nolan took Batman in the best direction by far, also Bill Murray as Batman!? what the hell were they smokin?

  • Excuse me? Doesnt read comics? The guy was an ANIMATOR before anything else.

And as far as taking his own spin --- why else would you take a job that is gonna take two years of your life to complete??

    Nolan did the same thing!

  • Actually Tim Burton has stated that he never reads comics. The only one he ever read was The Killing Joke.

There's plenty of people out there who are into animation, but not into comics.

And yeah, his batman movies were more Burton than they were Batman (still good movies though)

  • ok mr.nolans batman movies had no soul, there the exact kind of movies i would expect from someone like him. You can just tell there is no personal vision, plus they just really sucked.

  • the dark knight was amazing, what are you talking about.

  • Funny, I think the exact thing about Burtons films(Not Nolans though).

  • Yea Exactly

  • i did not know this documentary existed...

i bet itll be on the 20th anniversary edition of batman though. this year, finally! W00T!
