  • if you think about it you play a role in every game. Ocarina of Time rules.

  • link was better

  • "Pig soldier" = Moblin, their proper name is Moblin.

  • The orginal Zelda is awesome! But I consider Ocarina of time to be the best in the seris.

  • Very well done, but Zelda is not an RPG, in fact out of the whole series only Zelda II can be classified as an RPG. RPG in the classic D&D sense, not in the generic definition of the term.

Also, while I liked the video... who hasn't played Zelda to the point where you'd need to make a video praising how good of a game it is/was? I'd rather see something more original like a video about Crystalis, Gargoyle's Quest, Faria, Faxanadu, Magician, Battle of Olympus or Willow for the NES.

  • Everyone trys to do hard to find games, just because it's popular doesn't mean I shouldn't make a movie about it. The game itself doesn't make you original, it's the content. I don't watch to many youtube, videogame reviews, I go to Gametrailers, Screwattack, RetroWareTV ect... for that kind of stuff. I tr to do my own thing, and that means making movies about what I want to make. If you look at my reviews, you'll find that I have done some obscure stuff also...

  • zelda is an RPG...

if you think its not you really dont know what your talkin about

and theres nothing wrong with reviewing known games

  • You're not very clear in your reasoning, as I and most people might agree Zelda only has role-playing elements. It is not a full fledged RPG unless you're talking about actually playing a role as a character in the game. But that said, most video games by definition are "role playing" games as well (ie. playing the role of Mario, Simon Belmont, or... the frog, in Frogger). But except for Zelda 2 you don't level up or gain experience in Zelda as you do in all RPGs since their inception.

  • just because many RPG's are turn based doesn't mean a game must be turn-based to be considerd an RPG

    he said "action RPG"

    and zeldas exactly that

the only reason turn-base is so populer today is because a few games hit it big that way such as final fantasy

if you really want to say games like Morrowind, Fable, and Zelda are not RPG's then you are very wrong

  • Forgive me but, turn-based has nothing to do with it. Many video game RPGs have had action (especially in the US) for many years, but action is not a definition of a RPG. Morrowind and Fable are RPGs because there is a leveling up system in place. Crystalis is and action/RPG, Battle of Olympus is not, Willow for the NES is an action/RPG, Zelda is not. If you define Zelda as an RPG, then Kid Icarus & Metroid are also RPGs. However expanding you life bar is not the same as gaining experience.

  • where in "role-playing-game" does it say you must lvl up?

dude go check any gaming website and right by any zelda game it will say

    "action RPG"

  • I have, and most of the time the genre of Zelda is listed as action/adventure. If they've filed it under RPG it's because they choose to do so to lump it in with other high profile games. It's just a common misconception, not something to wage war over. Regardless just because it's popular to do something, doesn't make it right.

Leveling up is how I've always seen RPGs, you have a different definition and that's fine, but you haven't explained yours. Zelda did not invent action/RPGs.

  • a lot of the time its labled "action adventure" because they want kids to play the game as well

RPG's are not very appealing to kids

an RPG is a game with many things to do besides the main quest

it usually takes place on a larg scale map you are free to explore

you find all kinds of items that you use along your journey some that are even optional

and you are not tied down to the main story line

    the story is usually deep

theres more but all that kind of stuff makes a game an RPG

  • If those are the main points, then they not only apply to Metroid and Kid Icarus but Grand Theft Auto & several Super Mario games as well.

  • actually many mario games have tons of RPG elements just rnt considerd RPG's

metroid your full of it and same with kid icarus

kid icarus has rpg elements for sure but not even close to the scale of zelda

actually the reason mario 64, banjo kazooie, donkey kong 64 and other N64 games started being made like that is because the RPG world was getting populer

but ofcours all those games are considered

platformers cuz how can you not call them that?

  • Okay Metroid, how is Metroid not an RPG by your description? It has many things to do besides the main quest, the maps are quite large in scale in which you're free to explore, it has all kinds of items some optional, and in latter games the stories got quite deep like in Metroid Fusion, (however even Zelda is tied down to it's own story).

You know Zelda II & Link's Awakening have a lot of platforming. And even though in the 3D Zeldas the jumping is automatic, it's still considered platforming.

  • zelda does have some platforming

but the game is not so full of it that it should be considered a platformer

zelda is not tied down to its story

there is tons of quests that are in no way attached to the main story line

i'm not familiar with metroid enough to argue further about it. all i know is the metroid i played was mission based

weather you can choose where to go first doesn't matter

if RPG's were based on lvling up like you say games like "god of war" and many others would be RPG's

  • Whoa, Toejam and Earl music. Been a while.

  • I tried it on the Zelda Collection for the Gamecube. I borrowed the game from a friend and want to get it sometime. Now when you pretended you were Ninja Turtles, was that when ya were a kid, or just a couple days ago. lol Ninja Turtles are right up there with Zelda. Good Video

  • Great video

  • Zelda!

  • I never really "Got Into" the original Legend of Zelda. I own two carts, one I have had since as far as I can remember, but it wouldn't work. The other one I got a few years ago and tried out. I never even made it to a dungeon, and my NES cords have to be strategically positioned to work, so it is a bother getting it to work. But, I am sure it is a really kick ass game and must have been FRIGGEN EPIC when it came out. This was a great survival guide as well as review. 5/5. "...meh..."

  • XD loved it!

  • Your new opening scene is awesome.
