@718claudia1 I agree. Looks don't necessarily define who you are as a person. And, to be honest, being lonely all your life knowing nothing but disgust and rejection would turn you into a bitter person... Erik is... I dunno. An Angel in disguise? Christine is so mean. :)

@718claudia1 It is a cruelty that is very real in this life. She didn't mean it, she loved Raoul. One cannot make themselves love someone. It doesn't work that way. Christine pittied Erik, and she recognised his talent, but she could never love him the way she loved Raoul. It's a really tough lesson to learn, but sometimes happy endings aren't like the fairy tale endings we are used to reading about.

While you are right about that, it was orginiallt written for the Phantom. Cause also think about this, he never knew of the outside world. All he knew was how cruel the world could be and the opera house. He never knew love or compassion. Only music that came from his heart. That no one would ever care for.

This song has a double meaning sorta, of course the Phantom is lonely after Christine leaves, but lets not forget that Piangi dies near the end of the movie, so this kinda works for carlotta to.
