Is the DVD ready to buy yet? Cheesy title music by the way!! You should have just had the sound of those magnificent Napier-Deltic D18 power units revving up to the opening titles!!
Those "REALLY" were the Days.I got my first taste of Deltic Haulage in October 75
"Meld" from Darlington to York.I got them all eventually even St Paddy and Nimbus.
The Railways were better then and they were run with the Customer first and foremost. We were once late for our connection Home from Darlington to Hartlepool, our class 46 Peak had broke down on the Main line around Thirsk.
They had a DMU waiting for us in the Bay Platform. No chance of that now.
We had our own locomotive works which produced world class locos, which they massacred in favour of plastic, crappy foreign rubbish. Deltic class v Bombadier cross country unit? Oh, come on.....
Try the Coventry to Carlisle journey in the early nineties, train always 20 minutes late, dirty with disinterested staff, and one occasion broke down completely at Preston. This seemed to be a low point for the railways as they seemed to be at their lowest ebb. However, in the last ten years they do seem to have picked up.
Nice video

Fantastic locos, Napier are another virtually unknown English company who have produced some miraculous engines.

Britains railways are now so dire that we look back at 1970's BR with fond memories.
That's how bad it's got.
