The pshyco not only ruined Vanderlei's race but Baldini's victory too, because we'll never know if the Italian would make it without the incident. In fact we only think yes or no.
Vanderlei actually was turned in an Olympic icon as Dorando Petri, ironically an Italian as Baldini.

@mgrosenstein I'd bet anything he never touches a drop . A great many rurally raised Irish Catholics are fiercely opposed to alcohol. We do have a drinking culture but if you check the statistics of Northern European countries who endure dark, dreary winters you may notice a correlation between dismal climate and alcohol consumption. I am Irish, I drink (usually not to hangover level), and it is a national problem, but our perceived international stereotype is, I feel , nonetheless exaggerated.
Desgraciado, lo mas indignante es que los policias y la gente no hace nada por ayudarlos, si esto hubiese pasado en America Latina nos tildarian de salvajes, sin embargo aqui lo habriamos reventado a patadas a ese tipo.

An external factor changed the event ?
Yeah in your dreams , 'cos it didn't absolutely , maybe it accelerated a little but Baldini at that point had already won effectively the race with still 7 kms left .
And only Brazilians ( of course they support Da Lima ) or those not Brazilians childishly blind , envious and not very informed tell the bizarre nonsensical joke of DaLima 1st at finish line.
reaction ?? Well then you really have no idea not only of marathon but also of any agonistic sports competition .
Those who have enough knowledge & competence about marathon and can make fine judgements gave no excessive importance to that incident and they rightly pointed to the true race beyond
apparent occurences.
Baldini's victory was too sad ? Maybe to you 'cos for many was a truly happy & deserved one.
The world knowing marathon knows the one winner is Baldini , all the rest can say whatever nonsense they like more , they will just stay ridiculous & bizarre nonsenses and nothing else .
How do you possible know that ? are you Nostradamus ? Are you god ? Nobody knows what possible happened if the invader did not attack De Lima. At that point De Lima did not have visual contact with Baldini. I think it's very possible De Lima react. The fact is the we'll never know and Baldini's victory was too sad because a external factor changed the event.
You don't need to be Nostradamus or even God to follow out marathons in the season and know something about : millions and millions of people do it and a big part of them would'n have bet a penny on Da Lima's victory before the incident looking at how Baldini was making up . About that TV images speak so clear and you can see it by yourself beyond any specific technical explanation by marathon experts commenting live and predicting Baldini was going to win .
Bizarre Idiocies ! ! Everyone who knows a bit of marathon knows so well that Baldini was in plain forcing and he was producing his famous tremendous finish and he was in total contro of Da Lima.
When the incident happened Baldini had already reduced his disavantage to 22 secs with still 7 kms left.
No way, Baldini would have won by miles
those years he was the best marathon runner in the world.
Don't spell out bs if you have no idea of what u r talking about ...!
When you lose your rhythm that's it, it's extremely hard to recover. That Irish twat ruined it for him, was interrupting Grand Prixs not enough for him? Lock the bastard up I say and give this guy gold, we all know Lima would've won it by a country mile had it not been for that controversial incident :l
This makes me really pist off! I gets totally out of rythm...i think i got third in the end...probably won if this had not happend...! FUCK FUCK FUCK!!

Horan's a capital prick!!!, seriously if i was an athlete competing in this marathon, who has to train for fucking years for being in the olympics, and gets stopped by a fucking cunt like horan. I would with all my strengh that i would have and smack him on the ground and just jogg on, he was going to get brazil its first gold medal until that Horan wankstain stopped him, ARGH!!!!. Apparently he did this to try to spread the awareness of the imminent second coming of jebus...WTF?!
the fucking idiot. what was his point? attacking a dedicated athlete who has trained for years dreaming of this race which is the most important day of his life.
you think that was a stupid thing for him to do? the dipshit already had a file for standing in the middle of a british indy 500 race, some should have hit the wanker.
they should have fucking killed that motherfucker that tackled that brazillian dude that SHOULD have won. Someone should kill that irish motherfucker.
Bronze and Pierre De Couperin metal is more than gold. He is the best because of the Pierre De Coupertin metal, and If this didnt happen, he would have got gold.
They should put that hell sent shit stain on a stake and have a world feed as his face is ripped apart by an angry badger. The that runner should be allowed to burn the remains.
No way he would succeded in Bejing becoz the security was so tight that even those terrorists was no where to be seen! It's pity that this psycho got away with it! London 2012beware!
I understand your point, Baldini was already faster than Wanderlei, and PROBABLY would have won anyway, but, it's a FACT that Wanderlei was highly affected by the irish: he could have some trick or holding something for the final kilometers. We would never know what could have happened because we can't predict things (you can't assure Baldini would have won without the irish entrance), but it's a FACT that this marathon was a shame for everyone involved.
vanderlei c de lima deveria ser agraciado com a medalha de ouro, por fair play. Ele não contestou o resultado, e certamente ganharia a maratona se esse irlandês de merda não tivesse interferido.
Well, de Lima did win the bronze, and was awarded a good sportsmanship award. If I saw that, I'd get a kick to what was hidden under the kilt. Let him feel the pain of interfering, himself. Would you do the same?
A pathetic ignorant child brain is hurted by the truth on here , then I repeat this holy truth : at the moment the intruder made his job , Baldini was in full progress and making his tremendous & well known marathon finish and he had reduced his disavantage from 1 min 40 secs to only 22 secs with still 7 kms left .
So no doubt at all Baldini had won the gold
and deserved it as 2004 strongest marathon runner of the world .
You're talking like you know everything that no one knows. The fact is de Lima's progress was massively & significantly affected after that incident, lost his rithym & lost about 20sec+. Baldini was catching up but who knows what would be the outcome had the incident doesn't take place.
YOU are talking about something you really have no idea about. EVERYBODY knowing a bit of marathon and being enough competent of run
agreed with Da Lima having yet lost from superior Baldini , his advantage from 1:48 had been reduced to 22 secs before ( and not after, just watch the video instead of saying ridiculous nonsenses ) the accident.
Baldini's progress was massively & significantly increasing at marathon leading , while Da Lima's action had already
Just watch the video and realize what comes out from : wihouth the accident Balidni could have catched the brazilian 1km after, but the final result would have not changed .
Find better arguments than trying to change true facts to not accept Baldini's right & deserved victory .
How can you compare Bolt and Phelps to Baldinia anyway? Phelps is swimming and Bolt is a sprinter which are completely different than running a marathon. Whoever compares those 3 is a moron.
I know that, damn it! By the way i was just kidding with trueloyale for god's sake. Even my little brother knows that usain & phelps aren't in the same dicipline with baldini.
Plus, generally they're all sportsmen & sportsman of the year award does compare every great sportsman's respective achievements no matter what sports they're in.
That may be true, but achievements is one thing. There is a big difference in the events. Phelps had to achieve his record 8 golds in swimming, Usain in sprints, and Baldini in distance. The competition in all of those is quite different.
Yes the competitions they're in are totally different, everyone knows that. Thing is i was just kidding with trulyloyale, & you took it serious out of nowhere.
You acted as though YOU were serious and gave no signs as to kidding around so don't tell me I'm being the serious one. I just thought your comment about how Usain, Baldini, and Phelps can be compared was stupid.
I was serious? Let me quote it again, "Yeah...yeah..ya rite. Ok you win, your Baldini is the best, better than Usain Bolt or Michael Phelps etc. Satisfied?". Does that sound serious to you? Psycho.
You were serious, bud. I read through all the comments you posted, and it didn't sound like you were having fun or kidding around at all. Psycho? Lol, is that supposed to be an insult or something? If so, then I suggest you try again. Better yet, put your foot in your mouth and don't reply at all.
I don't know what the f**k is your problem. Total retard. I think everyone knows i was just kidding, that's why nobody bothers to reply that comment i made except you, came out of nowhere & try to act clever. Don't waste my time anymore, enough!
Nobody bothered to reply because they were dying of laughter at how much of a pathetic loser you are. You're the one wasting your own time by reading and replying, and you are obviously getting your feelings hurt by swearing, calling me stupid names, and using an exclamation mark(GASP! Not the exclamation mark!)to show actually care about what I'm typing. I voiced my opinion on a stupid comment and you're whining about it like a child. Grow up, lol.
He should have only dreamed about winning the gold !
Before that accident Baldini had reduced the disavantage to only 22secs with still 7 km left and he was increasing more & more his running action !
No way , that year Baldini was the strongest of the world and he was predicted by the experts as olympic gold medal, so he would have got a confortable 1st place the same.
what a bastard. this is one of the best examples ever seen of what the concept imbecil means (in the case of the stupid who interrupts the rythm of the brazilian athlete. and in the case of vanderlei de lima, you can understand what bravery means.
That's so terrible. You could tell how much it affected him too. When you're in that kind of running pace and you get forced to stop like that it's SO difficult to ramp it up again. You can tell right away that he's not able to find the pace again. I'm very proud of him that he was able to still be a good sport about it.

This is the only one TRUE FACT, all the rest
only rubbish & garbage.
Trulyloyale 3 years ago
You're talking like you know everything that no one knows. The fact is de Lima's progress was massively & significantly affected after that incident, lost his rithym & lost about 20sec+. Baldini was catching up but who knows what would be the outcome had the incident doesn't take place.
pitmie 3 years ago
YOU are talking about something you really have no idea about. EVERYBODY knowing a bit of marathon and being enough competent of run
agreed with Da Lima having yet lost from superior Baldini , his advantage from 1:48 had been reduced to 22 secs before ( and not after, just watch the video instead of saying ridiculous nonsenses ) the accident.
Baldini's progress was massively & significantly increasing at marathon leading , while Da Lima's action had already
exhausted .
Trulyloyale 3 years ago
Just watch the video and realize what comes out from : wihouth the accident Balidni could have catched the brazilian 1km after, but the final result would have not changed .
Find better arguments than trying to change true facts to not accept Baldini's right & deserved victory .

Trulyloyale 3 years ago
Yeah...yeah..ya rite. Ok you win, your Baldini is the best, better than Usain Bolt or Michael Phelps etc. Satisfied?
pitmie 3 years ago
How can you compare Bolt and Phelps to Baldinia anyway? Phelps is swimming and Bolt is a sprinter which are completely different than running a marathon. Whoever compares those 3 is a moron.
MKav930 3 years ago
I know that, damn it! By the way i was just kidding with trueloyale for god's sake. Even my little brother knows that usain & phelps aren't in the same dicipline with baldini.
pitmie 3 years ago
Plus, generally they're all sportsmen & sportsman of the year award does compare every great sportsman's respective achievements no matter what sports they're in.
pitmie 3 years ago
That may be true, but achievements is one thing. There is a big difference in the events. Phelps had to achieve his record 8 golds in swimming, Usain in sprints, and Baldini in distance. The competition in all of those is quite different.
MKav930 3 years ago
Yes the competitions they're in are totally different, everyone knows that. Thing is i was just kidding with trulyloyale, & you took it serious out of nowhere.
pitmie 3 years ago
You acted as though YOU were serious and gave no signs as to kidding around so don't tell me I'm being the serious one. I just thought your comment about how Usain, Baldini, and Phelps can be compared was stupid.
MKav930 3 years ago
I was serious? Let me quote it again, "Yeah...yeah..ya rite. Ok you win, your Baldini is the best, better than Usain Bolt or Michael Phelps etc. Satisfied?". Does that sound serious to you? Psycho.
pitmie 3 years ago
You were serious, bud. I read through all the comments you posted, and it didn't sound like you were having fun or kidding around at all. Psycho? Lol, is that supposed to be an insult or something? If so, then I suggest you try again. Better yet, put your foot in your mouth and don't reply at all.
MKav930 3 years ago
I don't know what the f**k is your problem. Total retard. I think everyone knows i was just kidding, that's why nobody bothers to reply that comment i made except you, came out of nowhere & try to act clever. Don't waste my time anymore, enough!
pitmie 3 years ago
Nobody bothered to reply because they were dying of laughter at how much of a pathetic loser you are. You're the one wasting your own time by reading and replying, and you are obviously getting your feelings hurt by swearing, calling me stupid names, and using an exclamation mark(GASP! Not the exclamation mark!)to show actually care about what I'm typing. I voiced my opinion on a stupid comment and you're whining about it like a child. Grow up, lol.

This total Tosser was also running down the track at Silverstone in 2003 at the British Grand Prix with cars doing 150mph straight at him.
bryemycaz 3 years ago 3
He should have only dreamed about winning the gold !
Before that accident Baldini had reduced the disavantage to only 22secs with still 7 km left and he was increasing more & more his running action !
No way , that year Baldini was the strongest of the world and he was predicted by the experts as olympic gold medal, so he would have got a confortable 1st place the same.

Maybe. We will NEVER know.

what a bastard. this is one of the best examples ever seen of what the concept imbecil means (in the case of the stupid who interrupts the rythm of the brazilian athlete. and in the case of vanderlei de lima, you can understand what bravery means.
marcelscheisse 3 years ago 2
You can see that he felt it, he should win a Gold medal.
alfaceandrice 3 years ago 8
That's so terrible. You could tell how much it affected him too. When you're in that kind of running pace and you get forced to stop like that it's SO difficult to ramp it up again. You can tell right away that he's not able to find the pace again. I'm very proud of him that he was able to still be a good sport about it.
