@MistressYandere being a weaboo basically means that you fetishize the japanese culture. a weaboo would glorify japan for what they see in popular media (ex. anime, fashion, variety shows, etc.), and would sometimes badmouth other countries. japan has faults like every other country. loving the culture isn't wrong, but there are differences between appreciating a culture and glorifying it to the nth degree. also, an otaku is a derogatory word. it's equivalent to a NEET and/or hikikomori.

@MistressYandere america has twisted the meaning of the word to be something good, but in actuality, it's a social stigma to identify yourself as an otaku. i wouldn't really call otaku and nerd synonymic words. i wish more people would know about the meaning of otaku before using it, because i always shake my head at people who are "proud" to be an otaku. if you went in japan and identify yourself as an otaku, many people would not associate with you.
