  • At least its not like Republicans who talk about family values and then end up having sex with Homosexual Prostitutes.

  • This was Obama's mentor, and I hope he continues to lead Obama on the wrong path.

  • Jimmy Carter was good on foreign policy but the economy tanked while he was in office. Whether or not it was due to his policies is something that is up for debate but to call Carter an abject failure like Bush would be inaccurate.

  • Carter was the best American president of the latter half of the 20th century. Hands down. And as to previous comments, America could indeed use a little left turn.

  • What are you smoking?

  • @Slikcoolio Not really; in the millenial generation, polls say that socialism is as popular as capitalism. However, I suspect that this is simply because of conservative overuse of the word to describe good things that they oppose more than anything else. If you tell people that being a good person, helping the poor, and being tolerant of your fellow man is socialism, after a while, people are probably going to believe you, and think that socialism is a pretty damn good thing.

  • I think Carter tried hard to serve the people, and was often overlooked. My fellow Americans ignored his warnings, and he told the truth.

    Carter is the man.

  • Carter is a good man, real, he is both honest and warm hearted, I hope he could enjoy his leasure time.

  • carter was a good man, but a bad administrator. At least his habit for humanity is helping people.

  • True. Bad president, great ex-president.

  • I think Carter is a good man but he was not a good president IMO. He wasn't the worst contrary to popular opininon. His present day activities make up for his lackluster term in office.

  • I wouldn't really say they "made-up" for his mistakes in the presidency but I agree, he is a good hearted man.

  • Wow. That's one of the craziest opinions I've ever heard. You should blame him for earthquakes and volcano eruptions while you're at it. Just curious. Do you blame Bush for 9/11? Or was that Carter's fault, too. No, wait, it must have been Clinton's fault.

  • Jimmy Carter, quite possibly the greatest disgrace to the office of President. I can think of few less worthy.

  • The disaster of his presidency is the standard by which the worst president ever of the USA is to be judged. so far Carter leads by light years as the WORST PRESIDENT EVER!

  • We are in agreement then, though with the Obama presidency coming up, all odds are off.

  • Hmmm, interesting - and illuminating. "Don't Wanna Be An American Idiot"....

How about George W. Bush, Calvin Coolidge, Warren G. Harding - oh, and not forgetting, (where would satirists have been without him) "Tricky Dicky" Nixon himself?

  • Carter was too good a person to be president. A truly moral, ethical person cannot be president and succeed. Of course, the same goes fo an immoral, unethical crook like Shrub. Compromise was sadly something neither Carter nor Shrub really understood. Reagan, Clinton and even Tricky Dick understood you had to give a little and take a little, and that's why their presidencies were more successful, even if Tricky Dick eventually undermined himself.

  • Good points. He was in some ways the victim of circumstances. Bad timing.

  • Very true!

  • He was NOT a victim of bad timing! His own policies led to the destruction of the US economy, communist invasions of Central America, the Middle East, and the takeover of Iran by RADICAL ISLAM. The current Islamic terrorist movement in the Middle East started during this period, and was the direct result of his foreign policy weaknesses.

  • No; that would be Dubya.

  • YOUR WRONG! Carter is the worst president EVER OF THE USA!

  • Hmmm, interesting - and illuminating. "Don't Wanna Be An American Idiot"....

  • I can only comment on the president's I have observed during my lifetime. As bad as the current president is, Carter makes his administration look great compared side by side.

Carter was so bad, that he didn't get much more than 30% of the vote in the 1980 election. You must be too young to remember much more than some of the lyrics to a recent song and what your government school teachers brainwashed you with..

  • I'm an English socialist, admittedly not an idealogy that travelled (yes we English spell the verb in its grammatically correct form) over the Atlantic Ocean, unlike ignorance, intolerance and bigotry, which thrived under Reagan's hick agenda and which were instinctively and consciously opposed by Carter, mainly due to his Georgian upbringing, in rural Plains, which had and has a significant African American population (albeit amongst a small population overall).

  • well it's nice to know that you like to comment on things you know nothing about, but if you like jimmy carter so much, your welcome to have him run your failed country for a few years.

  • I note that your profile indicates that you're 107 years old, in which case you were born during "Teddy" Roosevelt's second term of office. It also means that you should be able to remember another failed Republican President, Calvin Coolidge, about whom, when informed of Coolidge's death, the writer Dorothy Parker replied "How can they tell?" Incidentally, George "Dubya" has really been a resounding success hasn't he? Look the shape your country's economy is in...

  • I guess your definition of failed means didn't destroy the country with socialism then you would be correct. Using a quote from the poor confused, drunken, suicidal, communist dot parker is also pretty low since the mentally ill don't always realize what they are saying. Your bitterness at failing to betray your country to join the USSR is showing, BTW it's funny how our "bad economy" is still better than most of Europe's "good economy"

  • I'm a member of the HUMAN race firstly, then I define myself as English. Incidentally, I hold no truck with Europe, at least when defined in terms of a de facto European superstate run from Brussels, Frankfurt, or from wherever it would impose its stifling bureaucracy. Throughout most of its history, European states and empires have been at war with each other, culminating in the rise of fascism in the 1930's, which finally ended with Britain standing up to Hitler and defeating Nazism.

  • Well I'm glad to hear your position on that, but I'm a little surprised to hear that from an admitted SOCIALIST!The EU superstate seems to be Europe's latest experiment to attempt to achieve what the USSR and Fascism failed in.I like this statement:Where there is freedom, there is my country!I believe Benjamin Franklin said that;and people must remember their obligations to defend their freedoms from an unjust government.Socialism seems like a nice idea, but tends toward dictatorship every time.

  • I acknowledge your mighty intellect - I've never doubted that one can arrive at a

(C)conservative viewpoint from a position of considered thought. I was bemoaning the tendency of some US citizens to vote on the basis of prejudice rather than an intelligent assessment of the respective candidates, however that hardly makes the US unique, it happens in the UK as well, as it must in all genuine democracies. By the way, an overwhelming number of UK citizens acknowledge the debt owed to the US.

  • Thank god too, it's bad enough seeing my own country ruined by a Sociliast party (Labour), imagine if a superpower like the USA had had Wilson, Blair, Callagahan & Brown running it? Scary thought.

  • You know Nixon actually did a good job of running his country right?

Maybe Gordon Brown should take a leaf out of his book.....Either the one about running a country properly or the one about resigning.

  • Carter was a basically decent guy i think. Who knows what would have happened if his attempt to rescue the hostages in Iran had succeeded ? Maybe he would have been reelected .I agree with PL Arkansas .Why was he apologising for the Playboy interview ?

  • Carter tries to make a moral equivalence with his gaffe of interviewing with Playboy magazine. I never thought his choice to interview was near as dumb as what he said in the interview. His comments were very odd.

  • I like Jimmy Carter, even though I was not around when he was in office.
