@Rav3nNZX Their higher armor make them a good anti-bow monk unit, get them a range upgrade for sure to do this effectively. People who really push the bow advantage use bow monks 9/10 times and they're weak to other archers. Be sure to get whistling arrows as a well place WA volley right before the liens clash can give a serious boost to your infantry.
@fishsandwichpatrol Whislting arrow is really good, as in it drops stats like crazy, but hard to use it right with actual bows. I find it difficult enough to use with my general and he can get to the side of the army.
@Rav3nNZX Just did a 2v2 against people who did this, and the best counter without royally screwing yourself in melee is having just enough yari + nagi attendants, have at least 1 extended range bow monk or daikyu, deny them any archery dojo if their is one, and watch your flanks and back. Yari Cav, Nagi Cav, and Great Guard are pluses.
I prefer my yari ash to yari sams, 2 high vets yari ash, 1-2 vanilla. The spear wall is awesome, I use vanillas as fodder and switch with my vets before melee. Sometimes get ~200 kills with vet yari ash.
I also do this to force my opponent to have a cav fight, where I usually ambush or win due to my bow gen. This is my way of controlling the field, Make an army which forces my opponent to act in a certain way, dangle my bow gen out as bait, he has to take it, or give my gen 200+ kills :D
@sunil237 A yari ashigaru spear wall is a tough thing to deal with. I personally find it more rewarding to have a mobile anti-cav unit like speed upgraded yari sams. It helps that for some reason I suck with yari ashigaru though lol
Hmm I just ran into a player who brought about 6 or 7 bow and ranged calvary and the rest (about 6) level 9 katana calvary. does anyone have a clue as to how to beat this? I had 3 monk cav and had no way of catching his general, and he would retreat anytime I brought up spears or naginatas, and just destroy me with arrows. So frustrating!
Ahh, I just ran into another all cav army... all melee this time. What's up lvl 9 generals bringing these armies? A charge of 6 katanas instantly routed any spears I used to defend... Is there any way to beat these?
Nice battle fishy :) btw is it worth vetting yari samurai much (I usually atleast like max cav killy bonus) at all do you reckon? I started taking yari samurai after watching your vid's and was wondering whats your thoughts were on how to best run them? If anyone has an opinion on this at all too I'm all ears. Great commentary as always fishy, looking forward to the next ones 8)
@jogs225 Eh, it's not necessary as they are already beasts at kiling cav, but I definitely like speed upgrades. Attack and defense upgrades can make them viable against infantry too. I's really a judgment call there.
@fishsandwichpatrol yeah speed upgrades are a must for me too xD thanks loads for your quick reply bud and I really appreciate your input I'll have test around with what you've said and see if I can come up with a build I like...Also (excuse the brown nosing sickening moment here lol) but I never won a shogun 2 battle until I started watching your video's and stuff so I just wanted to say a BIG thanks to you too for all the help you give new players to the multiplayer of this game 8)
One question, do you plan to play some sieges in the future? I´ve discovered them lately for me and it has been a hell lot of fun, as long as one doesn´t try to bring a mass of bows, planning to shoot it out of course.
Nicely done, you did very little wrong. I was playing a match against a guy called Hattori Hanzō, pretty highly ranked, he used a strategy whereby he got 3 bow warrior monks and 1 daikyu samurai, put them in the middle of a square surrounded by spear's (attendants, ashigarus and samurais) along with his leadership gen. The bows destroyed my charging men, and my men could not break trough his lines even though they were much higher vetted. Thought it was a cool strat, you could try it sometime.
@Villeroi8 Well a noob would have the bows for it to work....the guy was rank 9 silver If I recall. If it's in the game it's legit IMO, annoying as hell yes, but legit.
@TheJaafa Elite bow units are extremely powerful and are not to be underestimated. The only way to beat a strategy like that is with some really tricky counter-skirmishing. I actually did this last night, beat a guy's bow monk core with my two bow samurai and he drophacked me lol
@TheJaafa That guy must hate cav spam, because cav in spear point almost always forces those guys to rout. Also if you want to counter it trying bringing 1 bow cav, or even kisho with blinding grenades for lulz.
@TheJaafa there are several ways around that strat, trying to out skirmish is one, provided that you have sufficient skirmishers, surrounding them would be another given that you have enough melee troops. If you play a cav based army what you have to do is to maximize the charges you get. Just because they are spear units doesn't mean they are immune to cav charges (spear walls being an obvious exception). Squares are not impenetrable, and remember, being the attacker is always better off.
I'm Gay.

I have found a lot more people with highly mobile armies now. Lots of bow cav, mounted gunners etc. Finding them really tough to deal with.
Whats the secret to getting the most out of bow samis though, my rank 5s usually end a battle with less than 30 kills which is a wast of koku.

@TheJaafa This sounds like a lot of BS, since you only can have 2 bow warrior monks in one army ^^
